Servers Down?
« on: February 27, 2008, 12:06:20 pm »
I am trying to log in over a wireless internet connection and although I can get to internet sites fine I can't seem to see the Layo servers. I can get into Gamespy but there are no servers there to log into. I can see people online via server status on the Layo forums so I know it must be me that is having the problem.  Has anyone seen this before? Does anyone know what I need to do about it? Thanks.

Are you trying to log in from some free internet kind of place that might be blocking the ports needed to play Layo?
Is everything acting normally when you click the player login button (not the layo login, but the one to get into the multiplayer stuff), or is it being slow and giving you odd messages?

I am at a hotel with a pay per day wireless connection and everything seems fine when I try to log in using the batch files I just get a server timed out message.  When I try to go through the game normally through gamespy there are no servers shown and the history tab shows the Layo servers offline.  I guess I need to call the tech support for the hotel.

The hotel tech suppport says they are not blocking anything but he thought maybe since the request is bouncing off the hotel servers that the Layo server might be rejecting it or something.  Does that make any sense?  Is there any way around it or am I just stuck?  :(

We are not rejecting or bouncing anything on the server/router side of things.

This sounds like ports are blocked at their router, or the company that provides their connection to the internet.

Which ports should I ask them about?  If I can ask the question in a sufficiently technical way maybe I can lead them to the answer.  Thanks for the help.

Ask the tech support if they support chat protocol.

I finally got to talk to a technical person in the tech support section and it turns out that this hotel has the ports blocked and since they subcontract their IT support they don't have the ability to change the configuration so I am just stuck.  Thanks for the help everyone.
