I Found A Dead Ox!

If anyone had an Ox parked on the Road to Hlint near the red light caves, Its dead.  I have all the contents, but you will have to confirm then.  Name at least four things that were in it so I know i give it back to the right person.

Sure it does.  If you find something that is not yours, you didn't earn it.  If you sell it, you are profiting from something you didn't earn.  If you use it, you are obtaining benefit from something you didn't earn.  See a pattern here?

My understanding of this server is that the Team does not condone getting "something for nothing".  Granted, I don't think there is any set rule regarding this, but the original poster needs to follow what they think the spirit of the server.

For instance:  When the chest bug was going on, I destroyed a bunch of  cobolt nuggets, more +3 rings than I could count, and a host of nice equipable gear.

Why?  I could have sold it.  Could have made a nice profit, seeing as how I didn't have to expend any effort to get the stuff.  But that whole "getting something for nothing" thing as getting in the way.  I have the feeling that if Leanthar was in my basement watching me play, he would tell me to drop it all in the bin.

But, to each their own, I suppose.  I have my standards, and I follow them.  I don't expect anyone else to.

 He found a dead ox, took its pack and posted here for the owner to claim - if the owner does not do so within half a months time (which he probably will soon enough) I see no harm in him making use of what he found.

I tend to agree with Witch on this one, but it could be different based on the personality of the character too.  A dark elf would surely use/sell the stuff (though the player as a good person would post it as ShiffDrgnhrt has) because it's his personality.  A cleric/paladin of Rofirein would probably do his best to return it, asking people in game if they recently lost an ox (as well as post about it on the forums).  

However, in the case of the lost chests which was a bug, Laldiien did what I would have done.  Selling those items or equipping them would have been against the spirit of the server and would be considered powergaming/griefing.  For the most part in my experience, the only thing that people keep in oxen is CNR and thus may or may not be worth a lot depending on the rarity of the items.  

So, this subject is kinda sensitive but I feel that Shiff is acting according tho how his character would handle the situation (though I don't know his character but based on the post I am assuming that his character thinks that way).

I tend to side with Laldiien because this was posted OOC instead of IC in, say, the Wild Surge section.  My opinion is that if a player isn't going to make an IC effort, the player's character shouldn't receive an IC reward.  

Having said that, though, it's cool that Shiff posted instead of just taking the stuff as his own, and I can see the merit in either side's position.

Just to end this argument, I found the person who the ox belonged to and returned everything.  So you can stop bashing my moral integrity now.
