It is a stated rule that unsanctioned PvP is not allowed on Layonara:

http://nwn.layonara.com/Player%20Rules#1

However, there seems to be some confusion on the rule with some folks thinking that it is ok to cast harmful spells on people in no PvP zones because the spells do not do damage to other PC's. This is against the rules as well, as despite the lack of damage it is still an attack on the other players character and hiding behind the zone settings is a form of metagaming.

If there are issues in which your character would attack another player please only do so in the arena or in sanctioned PvP approved by a dm.

Thanks.

Hrm. Thanks for the heads up, however I have a question:

Rhynn likes to use her Phantasmal Killer Phantom to scare people sometimes. However, Instead of actually casting the spell, I cast it on a hostile enemey outside, and then use the *Casts* "Emote thing" With the rp of: *Rhynn creates the illusion of a phantom, attempting to scare him/her*

Is this against the rules as well?

Learn Fear or Scare instead? Phantasmal Killer attempts to show people the most abject horror in their minds and KILL them. That's bending RP way too much when you already have other spells that take care of it.

Thanks for this cause for some reason it never occured to me that spells wouldn't do damage in a no PvP zone...Not that it ever crossed my mind to go PvP outside the arena or without it being sanctioned. But it certainly explains a few things :)

Using the *Casts* emote isn't actually casting the spell, so it couldn't be construed as an attack.

As for using the *casts* emote to rp the vfx for some other purpose, I'd think this use would fall under Prestidigitation or Dancing Lights or some other basic cantrip that every wizard would know but arent represented in NWN (because they don't do anything other than parlor tricks.) However, projecting a phantom to scare someone would be a higher level spell like minor image or something.

  To summarize:
  - using the *casts* emote for rp is fine, in fact its the purpose of it.
  - casting a hostile spell on another player regardless of pvp settings, not fine

Thats it exactly! Rhynn's just doing a Scary version of a parlor trick. *giggles* Just like how I use the chain lightning Cast Vfx to make pretty swirlies! *Easily distracted by flashing lights*

Hey, I think the "Sneak Attack!" message is pretty scary. A lot of people might not, but then, they've never gotten hit with a 360 damage Sneak before.

I have been getting seriously tired of people casing fireballs in Hlint, though. How many Criers have we lost to that?

I think that this thread is getting away from the point, lets keep it on topic.
