Title: Soulstones, Clerical Penalties, Raise Dead, Resurrection Changes
Post by: orth on May 05, 2005, 05:00:00 pm
Varying xp penalties to the caster based on deity feelings, spell and whether they have a soul stone or not.

Soulstones will now be around 200gp.

Please view this thread for changes to the xp penalties to the clerics who cast Raise Dead or Resurrection.

I have a question about this.  If a person is raised by an allied priest and they have a soulstone..do they still lose that stone?  Since there is no penalty to the priest either way it would seem to make sense if the player did not lose the stone if they are raised by an allied priest.

Just because they did not get penalized it still doesn't mean they didn't make a sacrifice for the greater good of their deity's relationships. The cleric is tethering his soul to bring back the fallen if he carries no soulstone.  That's a lot of effort and should still be RPed despite no XP hit.  If the player did indeed have a soulstone, then the casting is not so exhausting to the caster.

Is the new chart meant to make no difference between having a soulstone or not? I mean... will it really be worth buying a soulstone now, or is the chart in need of an edit?  :o

If a person has a soul stone the Cleric takes NO XP Penalty, except if the target is a follower of an enemy of his/her deity.  So yes, soul stones help clerics in a large way still.

Quick question...

Will that little magic eye that tells if someone has a soul stone be able to tell if the other person is faithful to an enemy deity?

From one point of view I worry that this might be metagaming, but then from another point of view; would a cleric's goddess punish them for not knowing.

If we can't tell, it will be interesting when clerics raise strangers.

Just my thoughts and questions...  ;)

A priest should be noteworthy of the deities of the individuals he is in party with.  If those party members choose to not tell you, then you should reconsider partying with them.

as not all players follow a Diety, what is the result if a cleric raises or resurects a player who has no diety?

That would be considered Neutral.

The coding for deity's feelings is always current with the web listing of their feelings.
