The Bardic Block

(1/1)

EdTheKet:
There is really nothing worse, except maybe finding slaad eggs in your food rations, but imagine, if you will: it’s been a long day, most of which you’ve spent slaving in fields, slaughtering monsters, or studying the arcane arts. You settle down in a comfy chair and relax with an ale in the local inn. To your dismay, a bard strikes up, possibly the worst you’ve ever heard, certainly worse than me. As I’m sure we’ve all experienced, heckling never works, and simply killing them doesn’t go down too well with local law enforcement.   A quick-thinking mage, however, found a solution to our little dilemma. After several nights of trouble with a local bard, Svern Cinderbrow decided to get his own back. He returned to his home and set about creating a coin with a secret bite to it. A simple gold coin that, once placed into a hand, silenced the recipient for anywhere from three to four hours.   The following evening, he approached the bard and placed the coin into the bard’s hand, apologizing for his behavior of late. The bard would have thanked him, but the coin had already taken effect. This idea became so successful that Svern went into business with a local merchant, and became wealthy from sales of his miracle coin.   This venture came to a dramatic end when Svern and his partner were found beaten to death in an alley beside a local inn, broken lutes smeared with blood and brains lying nearby. Unfortunate as it was, they definitely “coined” the phrase: “Silence is golden.”
