Title: LN and LE alignment pages
Post by: cbnicholson on March 24, 2010, 10:08:28 am
Just a couple of things in passing I noticed a contradiction in the alignment description points.

First LN - More of a question on the point
"Has a high regard for life and personal freedom"?  I guess I can see it argued either way, but isn't personal freedom subjugated for the good of law?

second LE - The second sentence is a clear contradiction to earlier points in this alignment.

"Lawful Evil characters support a strong  system of laws" .:\

Both alignments follow a strong set of laws and personal beliefs that determine how they function right? The "Has no time for the law" should probably be removed or replaced with something like "Has no time for the tenets of others or laws below that of their own." I think. My two cents. :)

The alignment sections are guidelines rather than hard and fast rules - and there is room for reasonable minds to differ.

My LN character certainly has a high degree of regard for life and personal freedoms - for instance, she opposes Rael's regime because the legal structure does not allow for recognition of life and freedom.

As far as the LE "Has no time for the law"" . . . eh . . . I can see that it might be trying to get at that most Lawful evil character see "the law" as a means to accomplish their evil ends, rather than something that they have inherent respect for. *shrugs*

To be blunt, although I think the alignment sections are generally fine as guidelines, I think that all of them could stand to be revised or rewritten, given how often people misconstrue or misinterpret them. I've never managed to find the time to come up with something for them... be my guest though, if you'd like to :-)
