move the vendors away from the gates some or some new people may wander through those gates into the valley

first zone may be harmless but what lies beyond will wipe them out

the vendors being near the gates may make the wrong impression of what lies beyond

Not sure I understand.

Are you stating to move the vendors from the gates of a town? I ask because you also state that the next area is not bad--but what comes after that is really bad. We shouldn't be "warning" about things two areas away...and I don't think we should be "warning" about things at all when it comes to town settings.

Now...with that said, in most areas we do try to warn about what is coming up (in some small way)...but that is hard to do in town settings--and we really shouldn't....especially if it is more than one area away.

Maybe I am not understanding your correctly here though.

i mean the two vendors near the gate to the watcher valley
just west of the dwarf
new people may see the vendors and then go through the gates and its not a new people place

*shrugs*  Seems a valuable lesson learned, really.  And as L said, metagaming "warnings" aren't really apropos.

A good point.  A suitable warning if I've ever heard it!
