Exit Looks Like Local CNR
« on: July 06, 2008, 10:35:44 pm »
In the Rift on the lower levels where the Golems inhabit, the exit looks like the CNR in that area. If one is running (like myself ;) ) s/he will miss it.

Recommend making it look like some other form of exit. The way into the area is a jump, that probably should be the way out as well. Currently, it is a climb. If it is a climb up, then why couldn't I have climbed down?

If anymore information is needed, please PM. More detail will likely give up 'unmentionables'.

Hey bud, I understand what you're saying, but I'm not going to change it.  The entire premise of the area there is that it's a commitment loop in two places.  The second, which is referenced here, is a very short but very daunting loop.  The descriptions which are on every climb and jump when both passed over by cursor as well as looked at in examination go into great detail on the commitment and implications of each PC jump.

The issue of climbing up versus climbing down is fair to an extent.  I'm going to offer up a different view - I can tell you with certainty that downclimbing is a far different beast then climbing up.  It is hard, it can be scary, and there are multiple moves on climbs which simply can not be reversed.

 Anyhow, some climbing motivationals:

All good points. However, I did not have the time to read the description. Plus, I didn't really know that they had descriptions. In addition, it leads to another question.

What if a piece of the rock that Dan Osman grabbed broke? O.o

But yeah, I got the whole loop thing first hand, thanks. ;)

Climbing motivationals?

They motivated me to be even more of a couch potato! Crazy.

A good question!  First off, Dan Osman died a few years back, but it was from rope jumping, which is like bungee jumping except you do it with climbing ropes.  They guy was super dialed, but as I recall the AiNAM report said that a knot was positioned so it flipped and burned through.  I wasn't there so I really can't say.  Now, to broken holds... there's actually a clip somewhere that has his hand peeling off a hold, I think it's in the extras on that movie for that scene actually.  He has one point static however, so he just catches himself.  When you move with static points (feet or hands that don't have to move to grab the next hold) then you have points that are stablizing you outside of the limb that you're moving.  So if a hold breaks, then as long as it doesn't swing you far enough off balance so your muscles (usually the core) fail you, then you're fine.  And it happens.  Now, if you're moving dynamically, like the double handed dyno he pulls toward the end, and a hold breaks... it's a horse of a different color.

He had likely climbed laps on that dozens if not hundreds of times before the speed solo.  So he was probably aware that the scoop at the end was darn solid.

The road to getting to where you describe includes walking down slopes , swimming and if you look at it from the point were you need to jump , a long jump down .

So climbing up is to be expected I'd think .
