My observations about Unholy Champions.
« on: August 12, 2006, 09:05:24 pm »
I as looking through the Prestige Classes that are unique to Layonara and ran across these two interesting classes.  It got me thinking, and during this time I began to ponder why only two of the Evil Aligned deities, and two Good Aligned deities were allowed to have champions.  It makes sense to me that one would be able to become a Champion of Baraeon Ca'duz, or Branderback since one can become a cleric of those deities.  I'm not saying that every deity should have a Champion, but I do feel as though there are other deities out there that are worthy to have champions added to their pantheon.

Furthermore, even if the team decides not to add more Champions, I'd understand completely since it may not make too much of a difference.  But one thing I would especially like to see is a little variation between the Champions.  The Champion of Toran and Vorax are essentially the same class, and the same goes for the Unholy Champions.  As different as the deities are that have champions, it seems to make little sense to have theier unique embodiments of their dogma identical to each other.

These are my humble observations, of a really cool idea that is largely untapped.  I thinkwith a little imagination these such things would be a really cool part of Layonara.

Considering the alignment restrictions, there won't be any PC unholy champions anyway.

Clerics are completely, totally different from champions, just as champions (holy or otherwise) are not the same as paladins... an Unholy Champion makes no sense at all for a deity like Branderback, whether or not his clerics are playable. He doesn't have champions, for the same reason Deliar doesn't have paladins.

I agree that there may be some other deities with a Champion-like prc possibility, but Champion may be a bit of a wrong term there. However, as we haven't decided yet on NWN2 or not (and if so, when), we're not going through the excercise of adding new PRCs at this time I think.

That's correct, after implementing, we never got around to differentiating them.

And there's indeed the alignment thing, Champs need the exact same alignment as their deity, so there won't be players with Champ of Corat/Pyrtechon levels, as it's NPC only.

Well that explains why there aren't any Champions of Corath/Pyrtechon.  Thanks for the info.
