I made a comment a while ago about fishing being a not to useful skill, because food was easy to get...
So... now we need to come up with some ideas of what to do with fish parts (besides food).
Idea: Oil of Silence - Plus to move silent when put on cloth and leather armour (not metal armour)
1. Turn fish in to Fish oil
2. Mix fish oil with dust of topaz
Plus and Lenght will depend on type of fish used.
And... the down side...it will attract every bear in view (hey, you smell like a fish). ;)
Just an idea
Have a nice day

I would have thought that a better idea would be for fish oil to increase Tumble rather than move silently, after all it is a oil so coating yourself with it would make you more slippery but as a downside it would decrease move silently because as you said you stink, so you would attract hostiles who are following the smell :)

1st make seaweed a fishable CNR like fish. Press the seaweed in the farmer's mill to make a large, flat sheet. Add rice and various combos of raw uncooked fish.
Violla
SUSHI!
or just eat the fish raw for sashami ;)

i dont know i always saw Fishing as a RP craft, not really meant to be useful, but you can say "yeah i spent the day relaxing by the pond fishing". And personally i think its great to have a non useful craft heh
-
Well there is food crafting which is mostly useless.
-
yeah already 10th level food crafter. What can i say, Orson is the ipidimy of uselessness. he doesnt fight. he doesnt enchant. He doesnt sell items. He fishes and makes malted stuff. Oh yeah and makes instruments that he trashes because he doesnt want to sell them to ayone at the moment. lol

I LOVE fishing. With the Ogre Druid/Barbarian raised by bears and guided only ever by his stomach, it's the perfect RP past time. in fact, I have a fairly decent trail bereft of enemies for some intense cross country fishing. Can get Herring, Bass, Carp, Pike and Catfish in just under half an hour.
And just because the fish aren't used in much, doesn't mean they can't be fun. So far I've done the following with them...
-placed a carp in the enchanting pool to keep it safe from the townfolk by the pond
-tried making scalemail with a bass on the tailor bench next to a very confused wizard
-threw a carp in the face of a sour little wench who kept yelling at him for being an ogre, and scored critical strength check 20+10 on that roll. (bout good enough to knock down a metal door)
-handed a fish to practically every person he likes. Brand and Toria Hecate in particular get fish in their diet something like 4 days a week.
-Chews on a cold fish to help him focus when he tries to solve mind bending riddles like "What are you doing, Korg?!"
-Frequently adds a fish or two in the Brewer's Keg when making ale to give it that wholesome briney flavor.
so yeah, you can find many a use for our scaley little friends. Just none covered by Troy MacLuere, ::shudder::

Moving to CNR Discussion forum. I have some thoughts for Carp Liver Oil etc ;)
-
I think we need atleast ONE useless craft ...
And besides, how are we supposed to go and relax and fish if everyone is farming the fishing spots so they can make whatever it is they would make.
As long as it doesn't become necessary for other crafts and the items made from them wouldn't be in high demand, I guess I would be okay with it ...

Hey Lonnarin, I found your carp in the pool. Nostros tossed it out cursing ;)

I one time Fished out the whole hlint lake and stared dropping them all over CNR caft tables and sat near them pretending I was doing some thing,,, great times.. hehehe
Any way I could loat trout into my sling and use them as ammo?

Yes, fishing and drinking malted beverages. It's quite nice when you're bored and nobody is about to do anything with. Although after I ate my pole and line I find shooting with a bow just isn't relaxing. I'm still scared I'm going to eat my rod again and walk around all pole-axed for a week.
Ideas? *puts on his over tired mind thinking cap*
Stick a fish in the farmers press to get fish oil. Walk over to tinkers furnace, make a glass flask. Walk over to the alchemists table and combine it with oh I don't know, maybe 3 different types of fish oils and some enchanting oil. And voila! Grease flask that can be thrown to cause a nice grease spell.
Here's one that will make cooking a bit useful, you can make juices and such right? Cool, how about we put some other juices in, orange juice that gives you resist elements for a short duration, take cows milk, add a cocoa plant into the mod, make some chocolate milk that gives you 5 extra temporary hit points for awhile. Milk! Does a body good! Make some of the brewing things do things other than get you drunk, maybe one will give you prot from evil for a bit, or another can give you some other attribute.
*shrugs* I don't know maybe I'm way off base here.

Fish can be used as fertilizer by local farmers, Perhaps even through the use of alchemy, create something that would increase the yield of plants needed for other things. The affect would not be instant, the character would have to return to where the crop of plants was originally.
Other uses for fish.
If you are near the sea side and are fishing for herring, perhaps have crab traps. You could use them to harvest the sea for pearls, as a material component for water-based spells, even introduce a new monster, crabman.hehe
The crafts needed would be wood(trap) and tailoring(netting).
On the subject of fish. How about spear (javelin) fishing. Thus you could intro whales, which could introduce ivory into the game and whale oil, then again if you have whales, you could have krakens.
Here I go again, being creative.
Another thing with fish. Why not fish oil? Or, even Candlefish?(caught for use as lamp oil, you can even light the fish, to provide some illumination). Candlefish could also be a source of fish oil for the purpose of making torches and oil lamps. There is already clay as a resource. Why not pottery?
Scales of certain fish are used to make pigments for coloration.
oh this is such a kettle for being creative.
