The Coalition

  Goals:
 • Provide      support to members own goals
 • Work      against political and moral corruption
 • Undermine      evil, unlawful activities either by bringing the Law to bear, or by taking      matters into one’s own hands.
 • Indirectly      support Organizations aiming for Order and the Greater Good without strict      adherence to it.
 • Provide      aid to the underprivileged and downtrodden in order to build resistance      against corrupt governments
Members: (other affiliations)
 • Tyra      Dragonheart (Leader)
 • Bella Poetr
 • Andrew      William Reid
 • Dot      Stroven
 • Acilius      Shadowbane
 • Daniel      Benjamin Poetr
 • Gurnorhn
 • Rottie
Guildhouse: Abandoned Fort, Dapplegreen Forest

History:  It all started as an idea.  Tyra saw the decaying tower in the outskirts of Dapplegreen as a base for... something.  She didn’t know what, yet.  But she knew she wanted it...
She figured out when she got her hands on the deed, and realized first hand the 'nature’ of things in Co’rys.  Faced with the knowledge of the kinds of things she did in pursuit of the tower, she decided to make the tower into a symbol of something better, of a way of life that could replace the way things are in the otherwise corruption-filled kingdom.  She needed help though.  Alone she could not achieve what she felt needed to be done.  And the first thing needing to be done was cleaning the tower of an undead curse.  Calling on an old friend, a well respected Paladin of Toran, Tyra managed to gather a group of adventurous Toranites (and some others) to go about solving the mystery of the Tower.  After a failed assault and some time spent re-evaluating the situation, Tyra’s Ilsarian friend, Andrew, and a musical Paladin uncovered the mystery of the Tower, allowing Tyra to find a necromancer’s orb, which caused any who fell in the tower to rise again as the undead.
Following this, Tyra set out to gather a group whom she could work with in order to try and change things for the better in Co’rys.  She approached many people of various ways of life, each having a role in mind that will help further the goals she hoped could be achieved through cooperation.  Having gathered a number of interested people, Tyra feels ready to set forth with trying to bring some light to the dark corners of Co’rys.

How to Join:  ICly?  Get Tyra's attention somehow, and she will invite you into the circle.  OOCly?  PM me with why you'd like to join and we can work on the how and why Tyra would approach you.  The Guild is informal, so there is no real applying, and it's also covert, so there is no sign saying "Coalition Head Quarters."  We are just a group of players who have decided to work together toward goals we each have, along with the other Goals listed above.

The Coalition

General Alignment: True Neutral leaning Neutral Good.

The reason for this is that while the overall aim is Good (feed the poor, help the needy, punish evil, etc), the potential exists among the G-E axis Neutral members to do evil things in order to achieve good.  Torturing for information, theft, and perhaps in extreme cases cold blooded murder could occur in order to punish the corrupt and evil and benefit the people.  Support for such acts may or may not come from other members, however, but the potential for the actions to be taken is a reality.

This deserves a much more in depth response than I have time for right now. But for starters, one or two points (still incomplete and not well rounded):

Do good people do evil things to accomplish their ends? What alignment is "the end justify the means"?

What alignment would you cast Jack Bauer or James Bond as?

Is doing bad things for the greater good [LORE]lawful evil[/LORE]?

I think to an extent cg could fit that restriction of doing what ever is necessary that is not necessary morally or lawfully well seen to achieve the greater good, but to a limit.

Not to be rude...  But this was so others could see what we're about and maybe generate interest, as well as provide DMs with some of the necessary info regarding the guild.  Not for a alignment debate.  I understand the issues with what the guild is willing to do, and it's alignment.  But it's not a set thing.  I was simply addressing the potential for deviation from what is considered Good, and why it's as it is.

Please forward any concerns to me via PM please.  :)

If the purpose is "so others could see what [you're] about and maybe generate interest" and a legitimate question regarding an apparent mismatch between the stated alignment leaning and stated operational methods is presented, wouldn't a public answer here be best to accomplish the purpose of the original post?

*shrug*  But whatever.

I'm not interested in arguing about the vaguaries of Alignments.  The guild is as stated.  It's TN, with the intention of working toward good.  But there may be members who might decide to do something "evil" to accomplish some "good."  So it is as it is.  there is no explanation other than when I have given.  We're doing good, but bad things might happen.

Perhaps there would be less misrepresentation if the aims of the guild weren't couched in terms of alignment. Perhaps something along the lines of:
"We work towards the betterment of the whole, but weren't not afraid of being ruthless to accomplish it."
Then the player can decide if that fits their character's ethics. You might be surprised who applies to join. :)

*waggles a finger* You had better keep any unlawful activities far from Daniel's ears or you will have more than a distraught WL on your case about 'leanings'! :p;)  Daniel has said ic that any unlawful activity will result in consequences starting with his immediate pull of his support..just making that crystal clear ooc wise.  There will be no wiggle room later about this.  For now I'm going to assume some of these goals are more a wink wink, nudge nudge kind of affair as far as Daniel is concerned and he's oblivious.:)

I'm assuming this is all ooc..if not I withdraw my comments btw.

I would suggest then that you remove any mention of the alignment from the above and let the ethics of the organization stand on what you've written.  I'll not further the debate on alignment, except to say that there is validity to the concerns and confusion raised that should not be so easily dismissed because you don't want to deal with it.  By putting the alignment out there, you have invited discussion and dissenting views, and an unfortunately, it's distracting from what you are trying to accomplish.

Updated members, and a new purpose and charter:

LAZ (Leader)
Jebediah
Autumn Longbrancht
Gurnorhn
Karn (Affiliate)

The Coalition exists to improve the state of the world around it. No kindness is too small, no task too great. Hold yourself above the evil of the world, and seek to diminish its grasp.

A mighty oak needs roots to stand, but even the plains of Kringard started with a single seed.

The Coalition Charter:

Quote
THE COALITION

Goals - Protect the weak, root out corruption, advance the greater good of the people of Co'rys and elsewhere.

Axioms -
Do no evil. Do not sink to the level of those we protect the world from.

No job is too small. Even the smallest act of kindness has lasting effects.

Knowledge is key. Knowledge of your enemies, knowledge of yourself, and what others know of you - all are precious.

No task is too great. Our resources stretch wide; nothing is beyond achieving.

Never stand idly by. Where there is the ability, there is responsibility.

Strive for perfection. Each of us has our own goals - this group exists to aid all of us in attaining them.

The Coalition's new alignment is Chaotic Good - there are a few very absolute statements in the charter, but don't take yourself too seriously. :D
