I have to say; and from my past experience of exams, it is not the questions but the technique and the way you approach them that is most important. I am sure you will be fine, and I wish you the very best of luck.

You were one of the first people I met when I joined Layonara, and I am always pleased to talk wih you when our very different timezones allow. Go into that exam, take some deep breaths and stay calm (easier said than done I know). Think not of success or failure, but of doing your very best, and you will sail through.

Good luck mate, all the way from England.

Development Journals and Discussion / Re: CDQ for Sallaron Tempest
« on: April 04, 2006, 06:00:12 am »
You need to have a look at this thread regarding CDQs:

http://www.layonaraonline.com/forums/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=11926&posts=5&start=1

I should explain how to go about things. Any specific questions should go in the the General dicussion thread. I hope this helps.

This part of  the forum should be for the charcter development of your character, and most likely will be referenced up to, and during your CDQ.

General Discussion / Re: What set you down the path of D&D geekdome?
« on: March 23, 2006, 02:23:29 am »
It all started for me as a kid of about 8 or 9; our teacher used to get us to read greek mythology, I used to love that stuff, the heroes, the fantastical creatures. I suppose this sowed the seeds in my mind for the future. I became an avid reader of anything I could get my hands on, Hobbit, LotR Narnia etc, then the 70s and 80s came and went, and the amount of literature available grew, and still I kept reading.

Early 80s I purchased one of the origianal Spectrum computers, and used to play some oif the fantasy ganes available for them (used to load them via an audio cassette). From there more Computers, texas TI99, Amiga, Atari etc and a whole host of games available for them, (my favourite was Dungeon Master on the amiga http://home.flash.net/~rayearle/Dfiles/DngnMstr.html and Faery Tale Adventure http://dorando.emuverse.com/html/faery-tale-adventure.html on the PC).

During my time in the Navy, whilst off watch, we used to play a whole variety of board games, some good, some not so; Dungeon Quest, Advanced Dungeon Quest are two that spring to mind. Early 90s I took up painting miniture figures, mainly Warhammer Fantasy, and progressed into Warhammers Adventures. Then Baldurs Gate, NWN and now here.

So my road to Geekdom has be long and arduous; huge swathes of forest has been sacrificed to fuel my passion for reading. I have contributed a huge mountain of obsolete computers and PCs to the dump. The  monsters I have slain, could populate  a small hell. But hey, what fun I have had.

I think this may be my fault, the quest I was running had a small fight occur in the docks, I remember the Dock Keepr getting killed. However it completely slipped my mind to get him a standin. Sorry about that, hope it did not cause you any problems.

I am currently working on an application called COPIN, which stands for COmputer Pain Induced Nausea. What it actuallly does, is causes a computer to experience pain. This pain can can be manifested in many ways, from minor CPU overheating, to a major BIOS failure or Power supply burn out.  I find that the mere threat of this on a PC, will make it behave itself. ;)     Anyway hope you get your PC sorted out ok, see you soon.

I kinda stumbled on this from nowhere (actually from http://www.gamesites200.com/nwn/) while looking for some private servers to test MMORPG before I actually get them.
I played NWN and loved it. So what is this? A private server? I never heard of anything like that in NWN, is it like World of Warcraft and Guild Wars where all players play in one huge world? Or did I read something wrong?

It not what could be called private; as all are welcome here; there are just a couple of entry prerequisites beforehand:

Have a read of the rules and have a browse round the forums, these are a valuable source of information for new folks.

Have a read of the character submission guide and from there create a character submission.

Any questions you may have, post them on the forums, they are generally monitored by someone somewhere in the world, so you should get a response fairly quickly.

And yes, this is one huge world, where people from all over the place play in a community created NWN world; but it is not really like World of Warcraft and Guild Wars.  Best I can say, is come have a look; many have, and are still here after several years.

yup, the nothern part of Germany was stolen from Denmark in 1864, which is a good thing, since you can buy cheap beers in the border shops. And if they hadn't stolen the land we would have a much longer drive to the cheap beers....

Thing is, was it stolen because it had cheap beer? As this seems a good a reason as any.

LORE Ideas, Suggestions and Requests / Re: Layonara RSS Feed
« on: March 03, 2006, 08:29:57 am »
If like me, people keep looking at the forums during the day, clicking on 'new' to see what has been added or updated. theis could make thinhgs easier to keep up to date. I could see the RSS feed providing on a users desktop; (Platform independant of course, with an appropiate news reader) a stream of data that is periodically refreshed that provides links to the originating page. So a user can be kept abreast of whats happening on the forums without the need to keep clicking 'new'.

This could also be spiced up wth world news, events and calendar entries etc.

Here is a mock up I put together, using my Miranda IM to read the RSS feed.

Clicking on any of these popups will launch your browser and direct you to the appropiate forum page. Of course there are lots of RSS news readers available: Mozilla has an extension that works quite well.

General Discussion / Re: What have you done today?
« on: March 02, 2006, 07:19:16 am »
Woke at 6:00 AM, ate a breakfast of fresh fruit picked from my own hydronponic garden, showered and had the butler dress me ready for a swift 18 holes on the golf course. On returning to the Rasterick mansiosn in rural Hampshire, I toured the grounds with the head gardener, discussing the planting of a 50 acre Oak woodland feature for the kids. I need to hide the trout lake from the view out of the bedroom in the east wing, as the sunlight reflecting off of it wakes me up to early.

Went to work by private jet; I do find air travel so much cionvenient than the chauffer driven Rolls Royce.

Then I woke to my 5 year old telling my wife and I that she couldnt sleep any more, and could she have some breakfast. Showered, dressed and ate a hearty breakfast, then tripped the light fantastic to the office, to stare blankly at a screen full of meaningless hyrogliphics that resemble Compter code.

Awaiting hometime so I can go a help coach a rugby team. With snow forecast, it should be a short training session.
