Fact is that magic is dead there. There 'should' be no magic at all - no tricks, no charged items, no potions, nothing should work.
Stopping the spawns from using certain items - such as ioun stones is not possible (I think) but that does not mean that they should be used by the players. Some may call that unfair, but since the engine limits us in some ways it would be nice to see people staying within the boundaries we try to create in the world, simply because that is how it 'should' be and how it should be played out.

Not too many have signed up, so I'd recommend that people show up even though they are not dwarves  . Sign-ups are often not a true picture of the real number of people showing up for an event. So there may be spots open still. Also, as a clarification I wil add that 'leading a party into the Deep' is not the same as 'ensuring your survival down there and back up again'. It will be dangerous, dificult to find resting places, it will require discipline and for people to recognize their place and role in the party... and it will be thrilling and hopefully a great adenture  . I see you have your 8 but if Snow White is needed to sing to 7 dwarves I can bring Kat along. Let me know before I trudge there (and get up a 5am) It would be great to have Kat! We'll also need someone who knows how to pick a lock I wager... If more than 8 show up the dice will have to decide though I am afraid. Looking forward to Saturday!

Regarding the balancing vs. certain classes I can only truthfully state that A LOT has been done over the past few updates. The Thunder Peaks is one example, the Rift another, the Glittering Isles, the Coastal Crags and the Deep are yet more examples. No caster will be able to solo there - no warrior either.
Regarding the crafting I really don't see a problem there - not at all. The little xp one can earn from crafting is small compared to what one earns on quests or by going hunting in parties. As has been stated already, the economy is fragile and keeping prices on the same leves are therefore one way to handle that problem. Many craftable items have been removed from the drop palette - this has been discussed and acknowledged by the Team.
