Fixed Bugs / Sonnet of the Summons Books
« on: April 16, 2007, 01:02:03 pm »
I do not know if this has been addressed (I did try a search to see if it had and came up with nothing), but it seems that a very useful book for bards is not working.  I have two of such books that seems to have no use items attached to them.  I have a couple of other books and have compared what is missing...there is no description of what the book does for the user in game, other than the general discription at the top.  It does say the number of charges the book contains, but again no discription of the ingame use.  It also does not give a discription of the level requirement.  Finally, I have tried several ways to see if I could make use of the item, such as adding it to my quick bar slots, as I did with the other tomes that were given to me.

I hope that I have posted this in the proper place.

Introduce Yourself / The Chaos that is Canyonman
« on: March 27, 2007, 03:54:24 pm »
Greetings, *he bows low and gracefully to all*

My name is Travis...most know me as Aeryn Tahlaer.  I am 36 years old, a husband and a father of two beautiful little girls.  My girls are the love of my life, in this present world anyway, and are the main reasons you see Aeryn on only from time to time *sighs slightly, but with resolve*.  I live in a little town in the corner of Northwest Arkansas, the home of corporations such as Wal-Mart, Tyson's, and many big trucking firms such as J.B. Hunt *sighs again, knowing that the Arkansas jokes are coming, but is to be expected*.

I am a teacher and a coach at the Junior High School level.  I teach a subject called Career Orientation, trying to get eighth graders to understand the meaning of real-life.  I coach football and track.  Football is my third passion, behind my faith and family, but coaching can definitely take away my free-time to play on Layonara especially during the season *sighs again deeply this time, as if contemplating something deeply, then shakes his head and continues*.  I really have a good life and feel I am blessed beyond all measure.

As for my one and only character Aeryn...he is what I am and what I would like to be.  Sometimes I get way to wrapped up into him and have a hard time removing my emotions from him.  But, I believe I could play him no other way.  As for how he and I are a lot alike; the strength in his faith, although he may not always show it, his loyalty to his friends even to the point of dying for them, and his desire to please everyone even though he feels completely helpless to do so.  And as for what I would like to become; more faithful to his god, more confident in my relationships with people, and a better singer *sighs...wishing he could have been a rockstar...and then grins ruefully*  Oh, and one other thing I wish I could have from Aeryn is his hair...*grins once again*

Trade and Market Hall / Talia's Trinkets
« on: March 27, 2007, 02:27:33 pm »
*posted on the boards outside of various taverns reads*

Through the various travels of Talia, throughout the lands of Layonara, she has collected a fine set of wares. I, Aeryn Tahlaer, well I have found a few myself. Rather than just buying more large chests to hold all of these trinkets, we have decided to offer them to our friends and fellow adventurers alike for hopefully a reasonable price, though I believe if you talk to her, you shall get it for much less. Contact Talia or Aeryn by posting your interested items below. May the Light of the Lifegiver and the Weave of the Lady of Spells keep you safe.

General Discussion / The time frame for LORE being down?
« on: March 14, 2007, 11:24:08 am »
I was just wondering how long LORE was expected to be down.  I was just beginning to use the sight to learn a lot about the history, deity nad timeline of the world of Layonara, as any good bard should.  I also loved to use the in-game date feature for my Journal updates!  I am not looking for any specifics maybe just a general time frame.

The new website is wonderful and my thanks goes out to the staff for all they do!

World Tree, Winter Snow 21, 1412

Old sights through new eyes. Everyone should expierence this at one time or another in their lives. I look at the sky differently now. Yes, it is still the same dark and dreary cloud that encircles our little world, but it seems different somehow. As if there is a change in the air. A little glimmer of hope that shall pierce through the gloom that surrounds us all. Perhaps it is my change of profession that has me so...happy....perhaps it is something else entirely. I do not know for sure, but I am glad I see things through new eyes.

I hope to write much more than I once did, to tell my story of the heros of this land. To tell their stories collectively, as well as individually. My focus is no longer of blade and magic, though I truly do still seek in my heart the bladesong, but it is about the people around me I wish to focus on now. I wish to journal their hopes and dreams. Their lives, loves and Aeridin forbid, their deaths. Perhaps that is the best thing about my shift in my profession, that I truly see the people around me in a different light.

First, I must talk about one special and dear to me...Talia. She has gone truly out of her way to show she cares for me and I hope I can do the same for her. She has encouraged me in times where when I doubted myself, saying just the right thing to keep my focus and determination. I hope to do the same for her when she may need the same. She has my heart.

Finally, I must write about my first adventures as a bard. They have been eventful to say the least. Tala has helped me with many quests around Hlint and Fort Llast. Marrick the Quick, a farmer once and now a skilled bladesman, also helped me collect of the goblin scouts ears that I needed to collect. That next day, a large group of adventurers, took a trip to the Haven mines to collect ore and gems. In the process, the chief of the ogres was slain and I presented the head to the local magistrate. Many friends skills were on display in those mines, too many to name here, but I am sure I will tell of their adventures in the future. As for now, I wish to see if there is adventure to be had...I wish to see old sights through new eyes.

General Discussion / Changing a voice set
« on: February 18, 2007, 09:06:00 am »
I have noticed that many people seem to be able to change little things such as portraits and such.  Is there a way to change a voice set with out redoing a character?

General Discussion / New Character: Incorrect Stats
« on: February 17, 2007, 06:17:23 pm »
I recently re-did my character Aeryn Tahlaer and noticed his stats did not work out as before.  It seems the Dex and Con issues did not adjust like I my first character.  My Dex is decreasing -2 (last time I thought it increased then decreased back to the original) and my Con stayed at a 12.  I noticed that I may not have entered the NWN syntax correctly.  I typed Sun Elf and that was not one of the options.  Long story short, what should I do?  Delete and redo?  Thanks for your help.

Development Related Topics (DRT) / Another PrC Idea
« on: July 03, 2006, 01:25:11 pm »
Forgive me if I am posting in the wrong area, just move me if I am.  I just wanted to post an idea for a new prestige class and I saw a lot of them are posted here.  I have been roleplaying my character as a bladesinger (I even set a custom macro text to have my character to begin singing as he engages an opponent, which makes for interesting discussion)...somewhat similar to a spellsword, but with some differences.  The main differences is the bladesinger relies more on spells to protect, buff, and enhance the player character.  Well, I found a write up on line at Wizards of the Coast an wanted to post the information here.  It has been done in the CRP and a few other places in NWN except where noted.

The Bladesinger
Bladesingers are elves who have blended art, swordplay, and arcane magic into a harmonious whole. In battle, a bladesingers lithe movements and subtle tactics seem beautiful, and belie their deadly martial efficiency.

Requirements
Race: Elf or Half-elf
Base Attack: +5
Feats: Combat Casting, Dodge, Expertise, Still Spell, Weapon Focus (longsword)
Skills: Concentration 4+ranks, Perform 3+ranks, Tumble 3+ranks (note: Perform would have to be open skill, or substitute another appropriate skill)
Special: Proficient with longsword, ability to cast 1st level arcane spells

Attack Table, Saves, Specials, Feats and Spells per Day
Class   Base   Fort   Ref   Will                          --Spells per Day--
Level   Att    Save   Save  Save   Special                1st  2nd  3rd  4th
1       +1     +0     +2    +2     Bladesong              1    -    -    -
2       +2     +0     +3    +3     Bonus Feat             2    0    -    -
3       +3     +1     +3    +3     Lesser Spellsong       2    1    -    -
4       +4     +1     +4    +4                            3    2    0    -
5       +5     +1     +4    +4     Bonus Feat             3    2    1    -
6       +6     +2     +5    +5     Song of Celerity       3    3    2    0
7       +7     +2     +5    +5     Greater Spellsong      4    3    2    1
8       +8     +2     +6    +6     Bonus Feat             4    3    3    2
9       +9     +3     +6    +6                            4    4    3    2
10      +10    +3     +7    +7     Song of Fury           4    4    3    3
Hit Die: d8

Features
Weapons and Armor Prof: No weapon proficiency gains and gains the use of light armor. If he uses medium, heavy armor, or uses a shield the bladesinger loses all benefits of any of his song abilities.  A bladesinger suffers the normal arcane spell failure chance when casting spells while armored (except as noted below).
Bladesong: When wielding a longsword in one hand (and nothing in the other), the bladesinger gains a dodge bonus to AC equal to his Intelligence bonus.
Lesser Spellsong: When wielding a longsword in one hand (and nothing in the other), the bladesinger can "take 10" when making a Concentration check to cast defensively.
Song of Celerity: When wielding a longsword in one hand (and nothing in the other) and using the full attack action, the bladesinger can cast one bladesinger spell each round as a free action. (note: this is one that has not been able to be duplicated on NWN, but maybe an automatic spell release or something to that effect.  I am sure someone with some programming skills could figure out how to make something cool).
Greater Spellsong: The bladesinger ignores arcane spell failure when wearing light armor.
Song of Fury: When wielding a longsword in one hand (and nothing in the other) and using a full attack action, the bladesinger can make one extra attack in a round at his highest base attack, but this attack and each other attack made that round suffer a -2 penalty.  The penalty applies for 1 round, so it affects attacks of opportunity the bladesinger might make before his next action.
Bonus Feats: Any Metamagic feat, Combat Reflexes, Improved Critical (longsword), Improved Disarm, Mobility, Spring Attack, Whirlwind Attack (note: others maybe add for varity).

I hope to hear back any comments, discussions, or concerns to the feasibility of the PrC.  I would like to restore the bladesong to the elves of Layonara. *smiles and bows*

Development Journals and Discussion / The Journal of Aeryn Tahl'aer

Journal Entry One:

Unfortuantely, I have not kept up with my writings.  Mother, if she were still alive, would not be happy.  I do not have much time, and my tales are many, but I wish to at least make a small attempt to begin the story of my life, my love, and especially my work to restore the bladesong to the elves.  But time is short this day and I fear that I shall have to update at another time.  I promise Mother, I will continue to practice my writing.
