Just for Fun / Re: most hated video or computer game moment
« on: August 01, 2006, 04:24:36 am »
I've got two:

The first Spyro, trying to find the last bits of treasure at the Haunted Towers level. Took me ages to figure out how to do it, and even longer to actually do it.

Second is in Syphon Filter: The Omega Strain. In order to unlock bonus health you need to beat all the missions without dying, and I managed to do so except for the last level (my current death count in that level was 17 ;) ) Took me hours to get through to the end of the mission without being killed, only to have my agent be incinerated by a sneaky flamethrower. I nearlysmacked the console.

Development Journals and Discussion / RE: The training of Jet
« on: July 31, 2006, 06:09:29 am »
**After several days of trudging through the Greypeak mountains, Jet finally stops and nearly collapses to the ground from exhaustion, landing on a snow covered hillside. He lies staring off into the darkening sky, and again finds himself reflecting on and remembering the days of his training**

"Stand"

It was the only thing Tyde had told me that morning. I did not know what to expect. Iric had fetched me from my bunk that morning, before teh sun was even up, and told me I would see Tyde in the training hall. I remember the hate for me in Iric's voice. He had never had any love for my prescence in the camp, and had it been up to him I would have been killed on the very day I was meant to be.

Tyde held up a cloth. "Put this on." He wasn't even looking at me. I was unsure what his intentions were that day, and I hesitated. "Put the blindfold on, Jet." He repeated again. This time I took the blindfold and wrapped it around my head.

"Now" he said "Stike me. Strike me before I strike you."

I reached for my sword, but I was nervous and I fumbled with it. Tyde could have been anywhere at this point, and i looked around frantically, as if I had hopped I would be able to see better if I looked around more. I struck out randomly, and then returned to a defensive stance, only to feeling a pain in my back.

The pain burned in my back, and it was followed by a sigh and Tyde's voice. "Remove the blindfold Jet." So I did.

"You rely far too much on your sight Jet. Far too much on your ability to see and know your enemy. A true warrior will rise above that dependance. Instead they fight as if they have transcended their senses. Sight and sound do not matter. They will be able to almost feel the prescence of an enemy. They will feel their movements, and anticipate their actions."

I simply nodded.

"Your mind is filled with doubt, I imagine. All you're life you have been able to see, and you have become dependant on this. As with your other emotions, you must through doubt to the winds, Jet. It is a weakness, one that will kill even the strongest of men."

"Then what do I rely on? Faith?" I replied.

"No, faith too is a weakness. You cannot hope that your swords will hit their target, just as you cannot doubt that they will. Instead, you must know. Rely on your skill and your stength. Leave nothing to your emotions, as they will betray and leave you far sooner than your skill will."

He then grabbed the blindfold from me, and put it on his own head. "Feel the enemy, Jet. And then strike at them." He then entered a defensive position, and I followed his lead, entering one as well.

I began to circle around him, and he followed my movement exactly. It was amazing, in its own sense. I then moved around the other way, hoping to through him off. Tyde simply stopped and held his position straight ahead. I knew I had him, he could not tell where it was I stood. I lashed out, attempting to land a blow in his back, similar to the one that he had given me.

But the blow never landed. Tyde spun himself around as fast as lighting, deflecting the blow with his blade and following it up with a kick into my chin. The force of the blow knocked me back several feet onto me back. I could here Iric laugh from the other side of the hall. Tyde walked over to me, still blindfolded.

"Feel your enemy. Forget your doubt. Otherwise you will be killed." He then removed his blindfold and left the hall. I was left lying on my back, winded from the training.
.

**Jet sits up at this point, and digs through his backpack, pulling out a strip of cloth. He then placed the blindfold around his head and stood up, still tired from his trip. For the next few hours, he found himself training, and mastering a technique that Tyde had tried to teach him 9 years ago.**

General Discussion / Re: Transition Points
« on: July 21, 2006, 07:17:11 pm »
As was stated, sometimes the player is killed near the transition and can't really get the monster away from the point. Other times the player doesn't even realize they are being followed. I know Jet's been chased by Griffons before without me even realizing it until I am nearly out of the area.

But all that said, intentionally luring monsters to an AT is against server rules, as has been stated.

General Discussion / Re: Characters, NWN2 and thoughts
« on: July 16, 2006, 12:20:54 pm »
I'm in favor of a full wipe, but also allowing posible descendants from current PCs. I already have a story for a new character related to Jet, his grand-nephew or something.... but it wouldn't be that important in his story. Just a little something to acknowledge that the past events of Layonara happened. I love playing Jet, but I also would love to start over again in a brand new world to explore. That would be far cooler than to continue the same ol' routine that I follow now :)

Although it would be strange with no Ozy around....

General Discussion / Re: Serious Discussion - Family Server
« on: July 06, 2006, 05:13:06 am »
Basically, I agree with what Acacea and Fortnight said above, and I really don't see why we need to be having this discussion on the forums in an RP world. I here enough about these issues on the news, in school, etc. and frankly I'm sort of sick of it.

Now, having that said I guess I'll chime in for a little bit. At my school, we have a day once a year called "Blue Day" and it is sold off as a  day where the size of the homosexual population is recognized by having 1/10th of the students wear a blue ribbon around their arm. Some people love the idea. Personally, I can't stand the idea of a blue day, in the same way that I can't stand the idea of a Red Day that would promote heterosexuality. I don't know why we need to have them. In todays society we are encouraged to be able to make our own choices, and I really don't think we need to have either side throwing their opinions at us. This is a reason why I don't think we need to represent either sexual orientation in our server, because those of us who are still young don't need another place where opinions and ideas are being thrown at us, trust me, we get more than enough of it from our parents and from our teachers.

As for public displays of affection? There is never really any need for it, and this is coming from a teenage boy still in highschool, so I think I see more than enough to deem it appropriate or inappropriate. Why would it be more appropriate than violence in this case? Because when parents get their kid this game, or at least watch the game for a few seconds they know about the violence in it. That isn't a problem, because the game was designed with the intent of being violent. However, romance and sexuality is something that we as players introduce into the world, it is something parents can't really know is going to be in the game when they first get it. That's why parents may have a problem with it, and not the violence.

In the end, like Acacea said, this isn't the place to make grand political statements. This isn't the place to support political beliefs of any form, or to really even bring politics into the picture. Users aren't allowed to advertise for a product (I can't walk in here and tell everyone they should come to my bakery and buy a cake, that wouldn't sit well with L, I'm sure) so why should we advertise political beliefs?

Basically, if you want to make a difference in how things are viewed and treated, stand on a soapbox and preach to the masses, start a rally, form a political party, whatever. It will be FAR more effective than fighting on the internet with people halfway across the world who you have most likely never and will never meet.

Wild Surge Inn / Re: A sad note
« on: June 30, 2006, 01:46:43 pm »
**Jet sees the note, nods and frowns slightly**

Even though we disagreed and argued, I had never once thought of Abigail as one to do something like this. I had always thought her stronger willed than to simply give in to her weaknesses and leave those that cared about her behind. A shame for those she left....

**He sighs again and leaves and walks out of the inn, returning to his daily routine**

The old-fashioned way to get a holdable book is to get some hickory chimes and use the customization forge to make them look like a book.

CNR Suggestions/Discussion / Re: Periodic Dose of Crazy Ideas...
« on: June 29, 2006, 08:01:46 am »
Would it be possible to have a certain item's description requested to be changed? For example, Jet has a suit of armor that signifies his (ex)membership in a group. I don't mind at all RP'ing the uniform as is, however I just think it wuld be nifty to change the name from Iron Full Plate into Crimson Blade Uniform.

Just a suggestion.
