General Discussion / Re: SLI Vid Card vs. Single
« on: July 26, 2006, 11:58:51 am »
I haven't built such a system.  However I have looked into such things.  Two Nvidia 7900 512mb cards (in SLI mode) can give a better performance than a single card, it depends on the game.  The performance using two cards can be anything from the same to 1.5 times better, maybe more.  I'd recommend the 512mb cards, although not many games currently request 512mb of graphics RAM, in the long run it might be a better idea.  As for saving money, if you can wait a litte while for the graphics cards there is a price drop due soon,  and one 7900 512mb card is good, without the second card.  So perhaps wait a little while, and purchase one 512mb then purchase the second a little while after.

Good luck building the system.

  Some Odd Happenings
  Where do I start?
I have done much since my last writing, far to much to recall. Just only a few days ago I was passing through Fort Hope where a small band of adventurers were waiting.  They looked tired and were obviously resting from a long journey.  I sat with them, discussing some rather odd topics.  Then something strange occured.  A woman ran into Hope, came towards us and collapsed.  She kept going on about Goblins and a caravan.  No sooner had she fallen unconsious, a group of goblins came into view, through the gates and towards the lady.  We stood there, defiant, determined not to let any harm come to her.  Soon enough the goblins had been slain, and we decided to investigate this "caravan" outside of the Fort.  We stepped out of the safety of the Fort, and it wasn't long before we spotted the caravan, surrounded by goblins.  A battle ensued, our attempts to clear the goblins and to investigate the strange looking caravan.  Upon closer inspection the caravan appeared to be transporting some sort of tube-like containers.  We decided to open one of the tubes to take a closer look.  Raken and Zarquil opened the tube and were consumed within a cloud of smoke.  Thick, grey smoke, which seemed to change them.  When the smoke dispersed enough to see them, they had withered, and become completely different.  Still in the same mind, but physically deformed.  Suddenly we were approached and encircled by an eye, slightly magical creature, and one which seemed to have a mistress.  The eye proceeded to examine each of us, before hurrying off.  We gave chase in the hope of finding out more.  The persuit involved more battles, as goblins guarded our path.  Many of our group fell, including myself.  It was a short while before i came to.  Those who had survived the battle had a lengthy talk with the eye, who decided that it's mistress wanted us alive.  We were brought back from our fallen states and resumed our chase of the eye as he headed into a cave.  The cave was tretcherous, long, and confusing.  Faced with golems and Possesed books we fought on, when two of our members were slain.  The eyeball returned, only this time an attempt was made by Bee, a small Brownie who i have seen before.  The attempt failed and our hopes for helping our friends lost.  The eye seemed upset that we should want to harm it, and wanted a gift to show that we were appologetic.  We gave it some food and some gold, and in return the eye brought back our fallen comrades.  We proceeded to head deeper, into a rather dark, and mysterious place.  We searched around before coming before the eye's mistress.  She did not help Raken or Zarquil return to their orignal selves and we spent hours trying to find another way.  I noticed some symbols infront of each of the tubes.  There were 8 tubes, 8 symbols and after further investigation, the symbols related to the Initials of the members of our group.  It wasn't long before Sallaron found a translation in a pile of papers left on the floor.  With one tube being for each of us, Sallaron found the tubes intended for Raken and Zarquil.  They entered the tubes, and whatever had befallen them, it was removed and they were returned to how they were.  We made our way to the surface and we still had many questions that needed answering.
*He looks around and sighs.  He adds the parchment with the others he has written on and continues his potion making*

Trade and Market Hall / RE: Rings of Divinity for Sale
« on: May 21, 2006, 11:12:45 am »
Ifion,

I have been rather busy recently on many an errand.  However I may be able to be in Hlint whilst I spend a short period resting myself.
However, I have spoken with a friend of mine, He answers to the name "Ryuurik" and a sketch of his appearance is attached.  Ryuurik will most likely be in Hlint for a fair while, I believe he has some business to attend to.  If you should see him, he will take the items on my behalf and he will pay you for them.

Signed,
Lancur

*Lancur sees the notice and quickly writes a note*
Do you still have these rings.  As I am interested in purchasing the intermediate one.  If you have sold them, then I shall look elsewhere.

*Lancur places a small pot of red ink beside him on the stone steps of the Temple in Velensk.  He searches for a quill and finds one which has seen better days. "must of been all of them ogres" he says.  He has no choice but to use the ruined quill and dips it into the ink.  He finds a piece of lightly crumpled parchment and begins to write*    Times Of Prayer and Times of Adventure
I have taken to making healing potions, for Gaibun and Dulan have been hard to find, although Gaibun has been busy as of late with cooking.  However we have seen each other a fair bit over the past week.  We were discussing Dulan and the relations of the Gods, when we saw a young woman run into Port Hampshire, Gaib ran down to attack the persuing Griffon before it could enter the town, and I ran through the gates to see that the woman was alright.  I found her laying face down on the cold stone floor, after praying and some divine magic, she was soon on her feet again.  Although slightly dazed and confused she soon regained the memory of what happened.  She was heading for Fort Himlad, and being the righteous people that we are, myself and Gaib decided to help her.  It was a short journey for we already knew the way.
I believe that Dulan has been in Hlint a lot of late,  I believe he is working on a business idea, but I know nothing more.  It is a shame, for I would like to examine that ankh of his, seems to be a fascinating artifact.  However myself and Gaib seem to be developing a friendship, and I hope it lasts, for i believe there are more enemies to my faith than allies.
More recently I have proclaimed my faith, not with words, but by holding the banner of Rofirein high above my head as a travel the lands.  No-one has uttered anything against me, but it will show my allies from my enemies.
*He folds the parchement and places it with the others within a small folder (A white piece of parchement folded into a large envelope, with a intricate gold symbol of Rofirein drawn on the front).*

NWN Ideas, Suggestions, Requests / Re: Mail!
« on: May 04, 2006, 12:00:20 pm »
Would it be possible to have NPCs stationed in certain main towns who, for a fee allow you to purchase an item (perhaps a postage stamp, varying costs for different lengths of parchment) and the item can be used on a parchment and it would then send that parchment to a PC?
I use the tell system, but with the parchment system in place, I just thought it would be cool to be able to send parchments to other people.  I think it would be good roleplay, it would also add more IC communication.  When I send a tell i tend to slip out of character, whereas when using parchment i stay in character.

(I say purchase an item from the NPC because I don't know much about the code in NWN, but I didn't think it was possible to choose/type a PC's name from an NPC dialogue.)

It's an idea.

*A notice is added below*

Thank you to those who have offered the boxes to me.

I do not need any more for the time being, but should anyone have a box of knuckles and they wish to sell them, I'm more than willing to buy them.

Defron.

*Defron walks away from the shimmering ghost of Leo, who is sitting under a small sheltered storage area in his attempts to get out of the rain.  Nimo, Ilztzyr and Nyyana have walked away.  The rain still falls heavily from the sky, and so Defron heads to North Point and  enters an unfamiliar inn, he wonders what it is called.  Once inside he sits down to write a brief entry in his journal*

The recent events were most tragic.  A group of us, Leo, Nyyana, Nimo, Ilztzyr, and Daemon duMoran, with myself, decided once more to enter the Ruins of Madness.  We seemed to start well, leaping through the rooms and removing those who blocked our path.  We had soon reached the chieften, which was where I fell.  Ilztzyr and Leo had entered, Leo had hoped to lure the monster into a prone position, but it failed.  I decided the best way to help would be to charge in, attempting to take down the chieften before he could take down Ilztzyr or Leo, however, my plan failed.  The chieften forced me to my knees before i could get far enough to heal.  Before i knew it I was dead.  Once again, I found myself within the void....my soul waiting to be judged, thankfully Rofirein prevented the soul mother from taking my soul.  I found myself in North Point, and made my way back to the Ruins.  My friends have always helped me retrieve my gravestones before, and I knew they would help now.  Ilztzyr had also died, though how and when I do not know.  Leo and the rest of the group appeared, and we started down once more.  Ilztzyr disappeared and the next time I saw him, he was whole once more, shortly after I managed to become whole again, Ilztzyr died, I never saw how.  I now had a difficult choice to make, to raise or not.  Something told me not to, some force, perhaps Rofirein, guiding me, showing me that I should not do it.  I did not raise him, I could not....

After this we started to leave the Ruins.  However on the way out, i was caught unprepared, and so I had to quickly cast my spells.  Leo was struck again and again by the Minotaurs, but I could not reach him in time...he fell to the ground, covered in blood, he did not move.  I quickly saw to it that no-one else perished, I took up my sword and attacked the Minotaurs knocking them down and finishing them.  It was then that the Soul Mother appeared, she took Leo away with her...leaving me, and the others to get out as quickly as we could.  We set off dealing with any minotaurs which tried to stop us, and we managed to make it out.  We made haste to Willows Weep, where we found the ghostly Leo, trying to get out of the rain.  He was obviously shaken by his experiance, and something wasn't quite right...

*Defron ends his journal entry there, he looks around the Inn, only to see the flashes of lightning and the sound of thunder outside the windows.  He walks to the innkeeper and reserves a room for the night.  He sits back at the table, and pulls out a letter from an old friend who still resides in Pranzis.*

*Defron finds himself in the Caring Hope Inn, in Fort Hope.  He looks tired, and after purchasing a room for the night from the innkeeper, he sits in the room.  Pulling out his journal and a new quill, he begins to write*

Many events have happened since the last time I wrote in here.  My potion making has stopped for the moment, though i hope to resume that soon enough.  More importantly however I have discovered how important it is for people to listen and to adopt tactics in battle.  Several trips to the Berhagen Mountains have shown me that to defeat Golems and Giants, tactics are required.  Golems are no easy creatures, their Gemstone bodies make them resitant to the sword, but fire and ice will pierce it.  Rofirein grants me the power to empower a weapon with his firery breath, and it proves most useful against these foes.  Giants....they are difficult opponants.  They have tactics, which involves throwing several rocks at you, before attacking you with their large fists.

Leo, however, adopts the useful tactic of slow and careful.  The rest of the party do not listen, and unfortunately, one of our adventures ended in tragedy.  I do listen to Leo, but it did not save me from the giants which surrounded me.

The most recent adventures were to the Greypeak mountains, a most difficult journey.  The Ogres are stronger than expected, however we made it through them.  Leo took the defensive approach this time, for he was relunctant to die again.  Sy did die, but some of the group helped her to her grave, whilst a few of us stayed nearer to Llast.  Nyyana looked rather pale, and was having difficulty standing.  Both myself and Leo believed it was the rain and the cold which was to blame, I lit a fire, whilst Leo used some sort of magic on her.  It seemed to work, but when we reached Fort Llast she collapsed.  She seemed to be unconcious and it was raining quite heavily, so I decided to take her to The Wild Serge Inn, in Hlint, it was not far, and it would be better for her to recover there.  I picked her up, ad carried her to Hlint, thankfully there were no ambush attempts and we made it safely.  I saw to it that she was comfortable, and did what I could to aid her.  I pulled up a chair and sat outside the door, waiting until she awoke.

The start of the next day was quite uneventful, I travelled for most of it.  Broken Forest is still awash with the dead, but I see to it that they are put back to the ground.

Before coming here, I met Victor who explained to me his problems, and troubles facing him.  Whilst we were talking, a large group of ants came from underground, but they were delt with swiftly.  An young elf named Jade also joined us.  Victor needed to see one of the Ulgrid draven peoples about something, so Jade and myself offered to help.  Travelling once more through the Berhagen mountains, but this time using the slow tactic to great effect.

I made my way back here to rest in the comfort of this inn.  Tomorrow i plan to head back to Hlint and see to the crypts.

*he cleans his quill, and packs away his journal.  He then prays, before preparing himself for a good nights sleep*

*Defron sits in the Temple Of Rofirein, in Fort Velensk.  He looks most pleased and has just finished praying.  Sitting on a step, he pulls out his journal and begins to write...*

I have spent a great deal of time learning from my spellbook and can now better use my magic, and wield my sword. It has been a tough time recently.  A trip into Haven once more, this time with a group of eleven, we still did not reach the ogre chieften...however, i will get that head....eventually.

There are few Rofireinites around, however we are still in existance and it makes me happy to see them.  We are few, but we all stand for the same things, and we have strength among us.

I hope to travel to Pranzis soon.  Leo and Shadow have their eyes on a house....but i doubt we shall have one...of course visiting the Cathedral is my main priority.  A house in Pranzis would be very nice though...

*He looks up at the statue in the Temple, and says* "Protect me as I help others, and guide me away from difficult situations."
*He packs away the journal, walks over the enchanting bowl, and begins the long process of making healing potions*

15
*Sitting on a Hill outside Port Hampshire, Defron watches the sun set, and begins to write a short entry into his journal*

Since my last writing, little has happened.  I have spent most of my time making healing potions and putting the skeletons in Hlint to rest.  I am getting better now, my potions are stronger and they have been helping people, which was my only intention for them.  I handed most of them to Shadow and Leo, in the hope that on their adventures the potions would prove invaluable.

Leo, Shadow, Ashall and Myself have been travelling around Mistone.  I managed to reach Fort Valansk and Worship in the temple of the great Lord Protector, he is always within me, helping me on my journeys.  The chance to pray at the temple gave me strength to continue as I had began, to protect others.  I SHALL protect others, whenever and wherever it may be.

Upon one visit to the Crypts in Hlint, I came across a wounded Halfling, he was being attacked by Skeletons and it was clear he was unprepared for them.  I managed to lay those skeletons to rest quickly, and saw to it that the hafling, named Thorn Thistletoe, was alright.  His wounds were serious, but after some healing and rest, he was well enough to fight.

I have been unable to retrieve the ogre's head, however i plan to study and train further before attempting that task.  I must add, there was one failed attempt to reach the chief........

*Defron looks up from the book to find Leo looking down at him.  Defron packs away his things, and heads with Leo to Fort Valansk*

*Sitting slumped in a chair, Lancur pulls a small piece of parchment from his robes along with a rather tiny bottle of ink and a quill.  Lancur's face is filthy, his robes are slightly torn, bruises and cuts cover the parts of flesh exposed.* Inexplainable Events
Not too long ago, i found myself in a strange place, completely disorientated and alone.  Before me sat a dragon, i do not remember much of what was said, for the confusion clouded my thoughts.  Something about a man called blood, and the calling of heros.  Such talk has been common recently, but I understand now.  Blood is trying to rid the world of the dragons, and those who protect them.  Why I was chosen is a mystery to myself, but dragons deserve my support.
The last few weeks have been testing.  Long, hard battles with the undead, and strugles with ogres, goblins, and orcs all weaken the body.  I have just returned from the crypts and the dark, damp, foul place is never safe.

*Lancur seems to be falling asleep as he writes.  He puts the final word of the page, and places it in within his robes, before standing to retire for the night.*

I am willing to buy a box of Knuckles for 250 gold per box.  I only require four boxes at most, but they will be most thankfully received.

You may supply the boxes one-by-one, or there may be a box from four different people, It does not matter, once I have all the Knuckles I need, I will add a notice to this one.  There may be another request from me in the future, but we shall see what develops.

Defron, Servent of Rofirein.

//Once you collect a box or boxes for me, please PM me so that I can arrange to collect them and pay you.  You are welcome to post here if interested, and I can make sure I'm not swamped with boxes of Knuckles :)

*sits down in the Wild Surge Inn and opens his bag.  He pulls out his journal, a quill, and a jar of ink.  He starts to write...*

*scribbles small note at top of page*
This journal entry documents events sometime after they happened, not all details are included

*writes in clear, flowing script*

Well, where do I begin.  I guess i should explain what happened after I woke up and found myself in an unfamiliar place.  I was shocked to find myself in the presence of a dragon.  He explained about someone called Blood, whom i had heard of somewhere before, but apparently i had been called to help fight him and his forces of evil.  I eventually found myself in Hlint.  Which was familiar to me, having visited here a few times in the past.  Now....what happened next....oh yes....the tax woman needed some assistance in finding the tax book and advised me that the sewers were the best place to look.  Whilst attempting this task i bumped into Sceadu, and he was willing to assist me, and i was glad to do the same.  Then Erag the Undertaker needed some assistance to obtain a lesser darksoul essence.  Sceadu also came along, and together we managed to obtain it.  I travelled with him some more...but as usual, he was quiet, and still aggressive towards me, but I do not let it bother me.  I seemed to be getting through to him....but then he disappeared....i could find no trace of him.  Although a new person had come to Hlint, Shadoe, he looks remarkably similar to Sceadu, but is less agressive.  I gave him some assistance with a few journeys to the crypts.

I have met a rather remarkable man called Leolaka, he is truely a skilled fighter, and i think he will be a fine tailor too.  We have travelled together often and he ofter brings others, so i have already met plenty of allies to aid in any battles i may face.  My role as a cleric has taken new heights, never before have i needed to help so many, every  day there are those in need passing through Hlint, i try my best to tend to their wounds.  Of course whilst in a group of allies, their protection and safety is worth more than my own.  I am slowly proving myself worthy to them, some were a little aprehensive of my abilities, but i am growing stronger with time.

The Lord of Haven has requested some help, and to complete that task i must venture into Haven mines.....but it is a difficult task, so i will travel down with Leolaka, if he is willing to help me.  I will write more when i have news to tell....
