General Discussion / Captain Jack
« on: October 24, 2005, 12:19:00 pm »
I don't know how many people play DDR ... Know what DDR is.. or even know who captain Jack was. I normaly slow on getting around to news, but I foud out he had died. I am borrowing the post made on flashflashrevolution.com and ask for a moment of silence for respect.

Francisco Gutierrez, better known to us as "Captain Jack," has passed away this morning at the age of 43.

In 2002 Captain Jack was diagnosed with a stroke. Though his lifestyle heightened the chances of another stroke, he continued to live life doing what he loved. He collapsed on Monday at a party in Spain, fell into a coma, and was pronounced dead today. He is survived by his ex-wife and son Francisco (21).

There's no point in masking the fact that we're connected to Captain Jack through his music on DDR. All of us have heard it; all of us have loved it. He's become about as much of a part of DDR as DDR itself, and thus the entire music game community is affected by this tragic death.

and another one from a different site

Palma de Mallorca: Francisco Guterrez aka "Captain Jack" ("Drill Instructor") died at the age of 43. The good-mood singer (sold seven million records) already collapsed on monday at a party in Palma de Mallorca. He was taken to the hospital "Juaneda" with the suspicion of stroke. The doctors had already lost all hope. In the night to friday he has fallen into eternal sleep without ever regaining his consciousness, according to his ex-wife Daniela Schaefer.

The drama around "Captain Jack" started at a party at Palma. The native-born Cuban (wearing his dance commander uniform) grasped at his chest and collapsed. Siegfried Blau, a good friend: "It was awful. We called the ambulance right away. But Franky wasn't transportable. He lay on the terrace for a hour, the paramedics battled for his life." Slightly stabilized he was finally transfered to the hospital.

Three years ago the singer suffered a crippling stroke. He had a hemiplegia, could barely speak. "Of late Franky had a lot stress, was traveling around, had a lot of gigs", said his manager Niebergall. And just now, where he met his son Francisco (21, lives at Miami) again after years on Mallorca, he was hit by a second stroke that caused his dead.

Niebergall: "Despite having high blood pressure since years, he didn't take his medication." His hits won't be forgotten...
