I don't care what anybody says.  You totally earned it, and deserve it.

Ask A Gamemaster / Re: Druid: Improved Forms
« on: July 27, 2008, 04:31:24 am »
They all get stat increases, and as Hoodlum says.  I found them to be decent increases when I got them, but still found cheetah to generally be my best shape.

As for advanced shapes... I never noticed that the small black cat has HIPS till just recently.  I never noticed these shapes getting any better, nor any feat to improve them.

A druid get elemental shapes for shape progression, and the 9th level spell shape change.

I don't think that non epic shifter shapes are so much better that they justify the loss of spell progression.  They were balanced for the single player game where you fight hoards of monsters that are much weaker then you. About half of the shifter shapes are worthless in combat on layonra, as they die easy, they do inferior damage, and their DCs are way too low to effect the creatures you are up against.

While an epic shifter gets some really nice shapes, only epic characters can take that shifter level 11.  It is a lot of working getting there with soul strands still intact.

P.S all the improved animal shapes (druid level 12) become dire except panther, and panther still gets a nice stat increase.  AB never goes up except for the increase in STR.  Dire bear has a base STR of 30 or something a bit higher.  Just make sure you run and change shape if you see an ant hill.  All these shapes also get more THP.

Server Rules / Re: Dead Magic areas
« on: July 23, 2008, 02:53:47 pm »
Turning undead is definitely an Su (super natural) ability in the core rules, so there is some precedence working against my question.  I don't know about divine might and shield as they are not core rule feats.  I never read that turning undead had anything to do with magic, but this is layonara and not some other game world.

It does seem though that there are a lot of monsters that use Su powers in dead magic areas.  So it seems reasonable to me that PC Su powers should be allowed, for the most part, while spells and items are not.

Vampire gaze?  I was thinking that it works on same theory as a snake gaze.  I want to make sure though.

Tulam was over run by cultists.  The survivors evacuated.  Some Cultist assassins on rooftops.  Most cultists held up in graveyard, hiding from Dracks not under their control.

Roomers begin to circulate that the spirit of Shiff Dragonheart has passed beyond the realm of mortals.  A great funeral pyre was built in his honer on the peaks of Deadman's Pass, near where his body was being devoured by vampires.  Even after death, his spirit could be heard complaining about not receiving a proper burial.

Fixed Bugs / Re: Greater Wildshape IV
« on: July 12, 2008, 01:46:43 am »
LOL.

Hold the press.  I just figured this issue out.  I never tried this shape while my character was NOT equipping his club.  When no weapon is equipped before shape change, then the bow does infact have unlimited ammo: basic arrow as amo.

I suppose this is to prevent unlimited arrows that are elemental enchanted which would be like a WL reward.

No.  I tried that, but as with every shape, no items may be equipped while in shape.  All items in inventory, except self use potions, high light red.

I convinced a couple of hunters to go exploring in the rough lands, and I dissected a wear wolf for this purpose.  Took wear wolf parts to Farstrider den and packed in cool chest for Jin to find, left the boxes of mushroom and aloe for him too.  Corrupted golems in area fun to hunt.

//  Messed up my screen shot but I am PMing the relavent game log text to Harlas.  He said specifically that there did not need to be a DM witness and that Nyeaeana could take care of this "you can go by yourself".  But if you guys really want to participate in the gutting of a wear wolf, it is not such a dangerous area to be in ;)  //

Roleplaying / Re: What It Means To Play A Drow
« on: July 04, 2008, 04:20:26 am »
Greaeaeaeaeat, must be that time of year.  Get out your oak clubs and pitch forks.  Light your torches.  It is time to bash and the dark elfs and remind everyone that drow are deceitful evil buggers.  History has taught us over and over again that drow will lie, cheat and murder your children.  Anyone who has made friends with a drow is either crazy or a bad role player.

*sighs* Alas, you are right, people do need reminders.  To trust a drow is to trust the player OOCly and not recognize that the drow are the most feared, most treacherous, and most notoriously evil of all races.

General Discussion / Re: the current death system good or not good

Well for the NWN version, as I understand it that calculation was already done and that is why there are 10 SS and not 5 SS.

For the MMO I have come to the mind that a permadeath system is just not going to be good for business. I personally like what permadeath adds to the  game but in a pay to play it will just not fly with the general populace nor will any really heavy death penalties. A eased down version of the reflection system is about all that may make it.

Life is all about trading one set of problems for another.  When I ask myself "What makes Layonara so enjoyable?"  I have to answer that it is a world rich in story.

I remember Glenn speaking with Cym and Nepp about his impending death. Then him making a yew bow, and the ceremony that followed.  I remember Cym standing in the Anerauch and saying, "We have to be careful, this is where Glenn was lost."  Glenn's story had a huge impact on me as a player, making me aware of the real drama we share as characters cease to exist.

There are more things about Layonara that I deeply love and appreciate then any other game world.  There are some aspects that I find very frustrating, but no other NWN(2) world or MMO has been able to hold my interest for more then a few weeks.  I doubt that the new MMO is being targeted as game for the masses.  Layonara holds a standard that is by nature marketable only to gamers who place a high value RP and immersion, and should be advertised as such.

So to me the question is not "Will the MMO sell to the masses?" but "Will gamers who want the highest standards of RP, know that the Layonara MMO exists?"

To another poster who pointed out that a zillion or so players are registered on the forum, but only a handful are active players....  Leanthar announced 2 years ago that NWN was an ancient game, and here we are today.

What about the idea of factoring the bug strand losses into the equation?

If the staff were to conclude that 1 out of 3 soul strand losses is due to a bug, whether witnessed or not, then increase total strands from 10~15 to 15~20.

Now staff can say, "We are not every going to reimburse strand loss, but we have given you 5 strands just for bugs."

On a brighter note.  Polar ice has melted significantly enough to open up new oil reserves.

Oh brother.  That would imply that all this hassle is completely my fault.  Did lore on this change?  I seem to have the image, "All divine casters must have a patron deity" wood burned on my forehead.  Though I have always RP'd my character that the great cycle comes before deities.
