General Discussion / Re: Deleting Characters
« on: April 01, 2018, 11:53:25 pm »
Those requests go here. Dorg or orth are the only ones who can handle the deletions, somebody should see it after while :) (Don't forget your Bioware nick.)

Layonara Server / Update coming soon -- new files needed
« on: May 28, 2012, 12:50:49 pm »
Hello all,

There's an update coming soon, and there will be new files required for this one. In particular, a HAK and TLK update.

The links to these new files are:

TLK: http://nwn.layonara.com/downloads/files/layonara_v25.rar
HAK: http://nwn.layonara.com/downloads/files/layo_ctrlv3r14.rar

You can download and extract these files now. They will not affect your ability to continue playing before the update.

General Discussion / A few thoughts...
« on: September 06, 2007, 07:44:17 am »
I was actually going to post this as a follow up post somewhere, but I've seemed to have misplaced the original post, or the poster never posted.

I've gone through four edits of this to make it as not-negative as possible with still saying what I want to say.....I know it can possibly get people to think Im an even worse person than they do now

But I'm going to post this anyway....

I'm going to give a few of my thoughts as a caster.

Frankly, perhaps its something some discussion on tactics can help me with:

I feel useless as a party member in a strictly non RP sense and have for a while.

First of all, some people have different ideas of balance than others. Some believe that balance is having the casters able to do some things , the fighters another, the healers another etc. Others thing its more "Well Casters dominated the show so long, lets completley flip the tables." The second one isn't balance. I suppose, in some weird way there's a type of balance to it, but its not balance within server spirit (I think, my judge of server spirit has been entirely skewed lately).

As a caster I've noticed the following things. I will not even  take the time out to say it was only for this update, because it wasn't. One major problem. No, the problem isn't that quest NPCs can do things that normal PCs couldn't ever try despite never ever having their names uttered in common place. No its not the fact that everyone from the smallest pesant to grandest king has true sight. Its not even the Mind, True Sight, and Death Immunities on every monster, though that does play into the fact.

Its their saves...

Evocation has never. never worked unless you've taken an epic focus in it and then you get lucky once and a while.

Everything has such a high reflex save that evocation is no longer useful. Unless you're casting Issacs Missle storm...and what fun is spamming one spell over and over?

Well it was like this before...so thats what people did: Hand, Issac, Weird, Wail, hand Issac Weird Wail

It was kind of boring, but it worked. and it worked in the party's favor...

And then , the added, but completley understood Mind, and Death immunities and True Sight were added to the mix..

Which, would've been fine. TOTALLY understandable. Casting the same three spells over and over is kind of cheap....but mix that with the fact that evocation still doesn't work...

and it turns into a bit of a problem. Casters effectively come buff monkies who sit down during the middle of fights or maybe throw a mass haste , displace, or hey, issac's missle here and there.

Or maybe I'm just completley bad at combat as others in Layonara have told me and Im missing something I as an individual could be doing better.

Maybe, and to tell you the truth, most probably the problem is with bioware: There just arent enough spells in general to make it interesting

Any suggestions?

I have to honestly admit that I don't know what I'm asking for here. I realize I complain a lot. I realise Im saying on the one hand, being able to cast the same five spells is boring, and on the other not being able to cast any is worse. I  know some would beleive that if I have no solutions I should just crawl off my soap box and shut up. Sadly I am cursed or blessed with the ability to make people know how I feel. One day , as everyone says, its going to get me in serious trouble. Maybe that day is today maybe its already come.

I've recently sent a post to L telling him why I was still here: So Ill tell you bits and peices of it.

This stuff Ive mentioned doesn't want to make me stop playing, because its not what I play for in the first place, but its a big part of playing.

So long as quests are thoughtful and creative (and so long as they fit my character if Im going to be there), and so long as I have friends both IC and OOC to rp with, You're stuck with me unless you see it fit to make it otherwise :) I like you guys.

That is all.

General Discussion / For all DM's out there
« on: August 22, 2007, 02:22:23 pm »
...well, a thread was here recently closed before I was able to answer it and it was not my plan start to flame or a discussion.
I just wanted to say:
"Good job!" All GM's I met were kind and creative. Everytime I met one I had fun and a good time!
I normaly send a tell after that like thanks for your time you invest here to make this world for the players even more enjoyable.
Now I wanted to put this in a place where every GM can read it.
Thanks you do  a good job. A good job for free and I wanted to thank you for doing this for the players. Just that you know there are players that appreciate this.

Thanks for reading

General Discussion / Mac question
« on: August 20, 2007, 03:53:33 pm »
First I want to say the new areas that I have seen a just freaking wild cool!

Now onto a not so great point. On my Mac (2 GHz intel core duo, 2 gigs ram, ATI Radeon X1600 256) the areas west and north of Thunder Valley crossroads are unplayable. I have every setting in layo down to the lowest they can be and all I get is a big green screen where I can see a bit on the outline of the things in the area and I can hardly move. Anyone else on a mac seeing this?

Luckily I have a PC desktop as well but if I have to rely on that my play time will be reduced to about 15% of what it is now :(

General Discussion / Layo
« on: July 18, 2007, 02:44:53 pm »
hello there, some of you know me, some of you dont..but all in all i love you all :)
I miss layo, i really do. But honestly im getting sick of all this bickering and finger pointing on the forums. Layo used to be a great place to me. I remember when i first joined..i used to play a half orc named Azhag. I think this was just before V2 (when lazy orcs were outside Hlint). God how long was that now?? anyway....i remember gettin my net muchies and jugs of coffies ready for the (at that time) allnighter RP sessions. Then after a good quest, and as the sun rose i goto bed dreaming of the fun i had..dont lie ..i know you all have at some point :)
But now i come and read the forums, and this person is finger waggin that person and so on in a never endind flaming war..C'mon peoples..we are a community...some people have made friendships here longer than they had relationships. :) Leanthar, and the team have givin me a great place to play and rp with many personalities, all over the globe, and i cannot express my gratitude to him, or to anyone i played with.
But for now, i dont know what to do..i have NWN2 and tried it. But to me Layo will always be the best server for a game ive ever played. I dont know how long layo will be around for (NWN) that is.. but i hope the new system will be superior. Thank you L for the fine world you have created, thanks to the team,DM's and many players that have endured the likes of Faile, Shamino, Revone and Darthon. Perhaps one day i may return. Only time will tell..

And to all the low lvl players out there, just remember..soloing is fine..but the greater rewards is always with a party, not just for xp..but for the lavish characters that others players have spent months working on..in the end its D&D, and is best played in groups :P
      BE SAFE         T.

General Discussion / I'm still here and having fun!
« on: July 08, 2007, 07:05:33 pm »
I've been here for what....4 years now on Layo, ever since Beta 4.  To see how Layo has developed over time still fascinates me!  Back then it was a north and south server and the south server still had some rough edges on it but even then it was fun because of the people who play here.

To see how far it has come since then is just awesome and I am always grateful to L and the team for having Layo up and running and constantly being refined.

In fact now I'm getting a chance to group up with people who I haven't tried to group up with and having a good time!  Of course I am sorry about that strand you lost the other day Rose on East and the one that Shiff lost in the desert.  :(

News of the development by the team of a new game engine has not deterred me in the least.  I'm here to have fun and escape from the dreaded real world which for some strange reason keeps knocking on the window.

To L and the team, keep up the great work, I'm going to continue to have fun on Layo.:)
