Rumour Has It / Last arrival in Stort for the Ravens
« on: December 17, 2011, 03:51:25 pm »
It has been a long time coming but finally the full compliment of ships ordered by the Raven Trade Guild have arrived in Stort ready for duty.

A large number of the famous Morningstar vessels, Hurms speciality, one of the newer merchant class vessels now starting to appear on the worlds oceans.

Several scout ships famous for their work around Dreger. Their speed and shallow draft enabling them to move quickly and into waters larger ships cannot tread.

A single odd shaped merchant vessel common to the nations in the Rohden Alliance but able to carry large amounts of cargo easily.

And the pride of the fleet, a huge Starphire class ship build to specific details secretly in one of the finest Driran shipyards.

The Guild have waited for years for the full order to be delivered the longest to deliver being the large Starphire ship. Observers have noted that as the ship moves through the water one would swear the hull beneath the water gleams for some strange reason.

Nevertheless many members of the Ravens Guild were present when the last ship for their fleet was finally delivered. A proud day for all and the beginning of a dominant era in mercantile sea trade for the Ravens Guild.

Layonara Server / World Policy Update -- Sept. 19, 2011
« on: September 19, 2011, 10:39:48 pm »
Greetings Layonara Community,

As we have done now and then through the years, we are bringing some changes to Layonara.  Some of these are significant. Others are simple clarifications of what already exists.  Regardless of the case, from this point forward, a new set of policies and conventions will be in place for all, from the new player on up to the GM team.  These changes have come after a good deal of consideration, proposal, discussion and refinement over the course of several months.  They take into account those things that we, as a community, do well and those things that we, as a community, could do better.  The full details of all these things are too much to list here, but they will either be covered with some detail elsewhere or be evident in the way things are done by the GM team.  Don't worry; the changes are all aimed at a more positive experience for everyone.

What I will do here is summarize these changes and then offer an agreement between the community-at-large and the GM team. The latter is offered because in order for this all to work, it requires cooperation between everyone, whether one is “just a player” or our most experienced GM. Afterall, we're all working toward the same goal: a rich and enjoyable experience for everyone.

Summary of Changes:
As mentioned above, the details of all the changes are too numerous to list here, and much of them get into administrative details.  To list the major changes in summary:
 • We are creating a world lore     publication fork. This is different from diverging NWN lore from MMO     lore, but it will still allow for some greater freedoms for GMs and     players while protecting those players who eventually wish to     achieve World Leader status or undertake a similar effort.  There     will still be opportunities to “change the world”, leave one's     mark and the the like. World lore is still important, but there will     also be flexibility.  This fork is considered to begin with the     conclusion of the last lingering matters after the world plot finale     quests held in May, 2011.  As things stand, this will coincide with     the wrap-up of Briardusk.
 • This publication fork also opens     up possibilities for GMs to run events which may not fit into world     lore.  Such events will be considered “unofficial” and     unsuitable for character development.  They are intended for player     entertainment and education...and perhaps GM entertainment as well.     GMs will clearly state when such an event occurs, so there is no     confusion on the part of players.
 • CDQs (and     GCDQs) are getting a significant change in terms of things like     waiting periods and other policies, with individual GMs being     allowed to set their own policies for the most part. They will also     be the domain of lore-friendliness, meaning a CDQ need not directly     deal with world lore, but neither should it violate it or conflict     with it. Everyone should read the updated CDQ policy, found here.
 • The world plot     will be handled in a different, more “organic” way. With the     wrap-up of Briardusk, we're taking a small break to get organized.     We will put out a “state of the world” description so everyone     knows the setting for moving forward. From that point forward, we     will be operating on a new methodology.  There will be opportunities     for world-level involvement on many levels, even when something     isn't marked as a “plot” event. To a large degree, what happens     moving forward will be up to the community.  More details will come     out over time.
 • The Character     Approval process is undergoing a shift, and we will be clarifying     some things as well. It is important for everyone to read and     understand this new policy, as it will affect all character     submissions from this point forward. Everyone should read the     updated CA policy, found here.
Agreement Between Players and GMs:
In order for everything to work well, we all need a reminder that there is a need for cooperation between both players and GMs.  Without it, there is nothing but difficulty, and anyone who has been around here long enough has probably witnessed the occasional period of problems and tension.  We recognize these will never be truly eradicated, but we can all take steps to minimize them and work more constructively when problems do arise. In that spirit, I offer the following agreement to be held between players and GMs.

 Players agree to...
 •     ...have fun, but never at someone else's expense.
 •     ...engage in RP as much as possible. Encourage the same in those     around you.
 •     ...keep in mind that GMs are your partners in RP here, not your     enemies.
 •     ...not spread rumors about favoritism or unfair treatment. If     there's a concern, bring it to Leanthar, EdTheKet, Dorganath, Rowana     or a Lead GM.
 •     ...try not to use words like “bother” or “inconvenience” (or     some form thereof) when approaching members of our various teams.      We choose to do this.  It's OK. It's not a bother or an     inconvenience.
 •     ...never be the reason for another player leaving the world or     abandoning a character. This has happened, generally through     behavior that has made a person feel uncomfortable or threatened. We     know it has happened.  It is unacceptable.
 •     ...avoid telling other players how to play their characters,     alignments, classes deity/dogma, race or some other significant     defining characteristic, which also includes concepts like the     Heartsong or the Al'Noth.  If there is a concern, bring it to a GM.     Otherwise, unless a player specifically asks for advice, let it be.
 •     ...work toward a better level of communication between everyone     here, whether it is with one of our various teams or with general     members of the community.
 •     ...remember that GMs and especially the lead staff have a lot     invested in Layonara.  We sometimes want to participate in     discussions. Our words, unless specifically stated, are not     generally the end of the conversation.
 •     ...understand that at times, the GM team must say “no” but this     should be respected rather than gossiped about, back-talked or     flamed.  “No” is rarely given without a reason, though if it is     (such as cases where we cannot immediately give one), it is not an     arbitrary decision.
 •     ...join the GM team in our respect for and observance of world lore.     As part of this, keep in mind that if we approach players with     matters or concerns about lore, we are only seeking to encourage and     maintain a consistent environment for everyone here.
 •     ...remember that GMs are players too.  Sometimes we just want to     enjoy ourselves just like everyone else.
 •     ...maintain respect for everyone here, from the newest player on up     to Leanthar.  This applies equally whether in-game, on IRC or on the     forums. We're all people. We're all gamers. We're here for the same     reason. Do not hide behind anonymity.
In return, the GM team will...
 •     ...provide a fair, open and enjoyable experience for everyone.
 •     ...provide a rich and interesting environment to support, encourage,     inspire and reward RP for everyone.
 •     ...attempt to communicate clearly and accurately with the community     on various matters.
 •     ...be open and available, as our time permits, for questions,     concerns and ideas. We may not be able to accommodate all requests,     but we will make reasonable efforts where it is appropriate to do     so.
 •     ...be as fair as possible. We are still people. We will make     mistakes, but the goal remains.
 •     ...try to communicate as clearly as possible at all times.
 •     ...respect, support and enforce world lore as appropriate. In doing     so, we may bring forward concerns or problems to players that are     intended in the spirit of our established world lore. Please give     these due consideration and respect our comments and the reason     behind them.
 •     ...provide a “clean slate” for all players moving forward from     this point (more on this below).
The above agreement is offered in the spirit that we're all here trying to play the same game.  We're all people. Many of us, whether player or GM, have a lot invested in this game world. Some arguably have much more invested than others, but for the most part we all have a significant emotional attachment to this place.  With such attachments often comes a sense of ownership, and with that sense sometimes there is a sense of entitlement or a way of doing things that is “better”.  It is usually these sorts of things that cause the most problems. We're all different.  We all have different ideas and perspectives.  These things are truly great, but we also need to remember that we're all here trying to get enjoyment from the same place, and this place has its set of rules and guidelines that everyone needs to follow. One person should not take their fun at the expense of another's.

In understanding our various differences, let us also remember that each of us is only human.  The above agreement is a goal, and regardless of which side we're on, no one expects perfection. We do, however, request that everyone keeps these things in mind when playing here. Most of us here are adults. Let's remember to act like adults.  Speak to other players. Work out differences person-to-person, and ask for help if there are problems doing so.

 The “Clean Slate”
Under the GM section of the agreement, the concept of a “clean slate” was mentioned.  By way of explaining this, it is necessary to mention the oft-misunderstood “Player Watch List”.  Many players may not know if this list, while others may have the wrong idea of it.

The Player Watch list is simply that...a list of players to watch. A player may get onto the list in several ways, which can be summarized as bad or questionable behavior. Such behavior can take many forms, whether it is a complaint by another player, minor rule violations or any matter that seems of concern. We use this as a communication tool between the entire GM team, such that we may all know of issues that may require a closer eye on a player in order that they do not cause problems for others through such behavior as we may document. A player will remain on the watch list for a period of six (6) months, after which time, the thread will be moved to an “inactive” archive, assuming no further issues during that time. If necessary, an archived thread may be made active again if there are repeated issues for a given player. These threads help us determine when administrative action or more direct intervention may be necessary, and they serve as long term documentation.

It bears stating, unequivocally, that the Player Watch List is not a list of people that the GM team “does not like.” This is actually quite far from the truth. It should also be said that just because someone is on the watch list does not mean the player is in trouble. In order to illustrate a little better what the list is and isn't, here are a few examples of why someone might appear on the list:
 •     Player A is seen repeatedly luring or using terrain features to     trick creature AI or is otherwise abusing creature AI to     disproportionately lower the challenge posed by a creature or set of     creatures.
 •     Player B is observed camping CNR or creatures in excess of what     rules allow.
 •     Player C is reported by Player D for some inter-personal matters     that make Player D uncomfortable or which impact Player D's     enjoyment of the game.  In this case, both players might receive     posts for tracking purposes.
 •     A GM comes across something that brings questions to mind about     Player E.  The player in question is not available at the time to     speak to about the find, and there are no other GMs around who might     be able to offer clarity. The GM posts a thread seeking attention     and comment from other GMs regarding the find. (Note: in such a     case, the post may be removed if it is determined that there is     ultimately nothing wrong or questionable.)
There are surely other reasons for appearing on the watch list, but these are among the most common.  In most cases, a GM should make contact with the player who is being listed to discuss the problem and request an adjustment in behavior.  However, whether due to time constraints, RL obligations or the player logging off of the server before such an opportunity arises, a GM may not be able to do so in a timely way. In such cases, the GM may still post in order to mark the incident for other eyes. A GM may also post to raise a player concern with the rest of the team in the absence of available information. Again, it should be stressed that someone being on this list is not automatically in trouble with the team.

To enact the “clean slate”, from this point forward, any and all active Player Watch List threads are now archived permanently. Any past incidents or disciplinary actions, except for permanent bannings of course, are hereby forgiven and completely in the past.  If a player who has been the subject of one or more Player Watch List posts in the past has a new incident worthy of the Player Watch List, such incidents will be considered new, and past incidents will not be taken into account.  Repeated incidents after this point will, of course, be handled as we have in the past, with each thread serving as a historical record for future reference.

This gives everyone who may have come in conflict with server rules in the past or who may have caused difficulties for other players to start fresh and without bias. It is our hope that in this environment, people will seize this opportunity to be better members of the community as a whole and remember that this is not just a single-player game and that our actions affect other players, either directly or indirectly.

 So let's get started!
Without further ceremony or description, let's all start moving forward and continue making Layonara the best environment for RP and enjoyment it can be. For good or ill, we've all contributed to what Layonara is today.  As we go on, we will continue to shape it. Let's make it good!

The Dragon Storm Campaign / Honor, Conquest and Silent Suffering....
« on: August 05, 2011, 04:32:37 am »
In war torn regions it is always a bright spot when heroes  are celebrated and the world is given a chance to breath easy and think the best of some. This was of course no less true in war torn Belinara despite dynamically opposed powers vieing for control of the land, and indeed, themselves. On a bitterly cold day in Hilm, in the outer courtyard of the castle bearing the same name, hundreds upon hundreds gathered together to do just that: Think the best of some.

Dressed in full regalia, Lord Alexandar stood full honors for a collection of people who, at first glance, seemed nothing but  a rag-tag bunch of riffraff. Frankly, in amongst the near blinding crowd of plated soldiers and brightly dressed people of the land, the honorees stood out more for their oddness than heroic appearance. It didn't matter, not to them, nor to those who celebrated them. It was too easy to remember the battles here, too easy  to remember all they had done for the people of Hilm and indeed, the world.

Called forth each in turn: Mysterious G'ork, Stout Kromlek Stormaxe and Gunder Harbist, and the Rough Looking Vrebel were presented with the Honorary Captain in Hilm Protectorate. Each was regaled with excerpts of battles their peers recalled on the fateful day the Cult was turned back from Hilm Castle. Standing proud (either feigned or real), shouts of many a cheerful reward (usually in the form of alcohol) is offered from their fellows.

Jillseponie Kendall, the lithe elf of unknown years, is honored as Scout Warden of Hilm Protectorate. Well meaning jeers are sent through the crowd, calling for the dwarf hidden in her pouches to do her heavy hitting. In truth, this is probably the only place such things would be said for there were too many targets for the formidable woman to hit before she was taken down in retaliation. Instead she only  quirked a sharp brow in the general direction before  cheers went up on her behalf.

Each is penned in true military style and greeted with the customary call, the motto of Hilm. “Protect, Defend, Endure, Huzzah! Huzzah! Huzzah!” Repeated throughout the courtyard in a booming chant, that seems as if it should rattle the rubble and crenelations of the castle walls. The sharp of ear and familiar to the regions of Belinara would catch the dialects and other languages adding to the call of  the victorious.

At the end of the ceremony, a touching eulogy is read by members of the standing army who witnessed the fall of Chaynce Baldu'muur. His final hours are recounted to the soldiers, describing him as an honorable man with a sharp  tongue and firm resolve. It was remembered that his last breath was taken in the arms of his lady, the proud Lady Daniella Stormhaven. It was remembered that he never flinched and asked little.

Also remembered was Sallaron Tempest. Early when the world barely cared about the domination of  Kuhl's boarders Sallaron began touching on the powers that  would eventually matter in the final hours. Wherever  he lay, wherever his family be, they are thought of with honored blessings from a crowed of  battle hardened, thankful, soldiers.

 ------------

The brews flowed in Hilm, Lord Alexandar tapping some of the barrels long reserved for celebrations such as this. While he partook little he encouraged those o f h is staff to celebrate and be merry. The weathered and weary look on his square face said what did not need saying on a day such as this. That there are too few of them in these times was a  thought all knew and few spoke so as not  to ruin the mood of their peers.

Deep within a pack of Toranites, Azk'a is called on to recount many a tale of battling those scaley green  (censored). There is more than celebration in the eyes of these men as they listen to Azk'a detail the weaknesses the Cult's toughest and fearsome soldiers. Honor and not little awe reflected in their faces.

Another elf, this a wild thing in contrast to Jillesponie's immaculate presence, threw back brews with the best of the dwarves and humans, able to drink no few under the table. “And let me tell you! Those boarders thick with them.  Still, with the right kind of paper,” he paused and rubbed to coins in between his thumb and forefinger to indicate the kind of 'paper'  he meant, “You could get in past 'em. That was just the outer rims though. Inside... Inside deep it was another matter and thank the  gods for my willing conspirators...” He shook  his head and continued on to tell about some of the braver merchants willing to stick their necks out on his behalf to bring back that crucial information outside the boarders...

 ----------------------------------------------

Somewhere deep within Kuhl on that same day posters of yet another elf were being put up. Fair faced and slight, Elohanna's likeness was posted on Kuhl message boards the country over. Over her head the letters marked the leader's wrath, the damnation of the frail creature. Fifty  thousand true, a sum enough to feed the largest of families for generations, it said. Fifty thousand true for her lifeless body at the feet of the Cult's masters.... Sharp eyes memorized  her features, taking in all they could and hating her.

In the back rooms where those not blinded by the Cult's message, her name is breathed with honor. She, the elvish woman who  defeated the taint within her body... The embodiment that the Cult could be defeated....

 ----------------------------------------

Sitting on rock faced cliffs, like so  many cliché bitter gulls, a small group of Stormbringers shared their exploits from Audria's battle. Each built upon the one before, talking up the battle with glee... A name is spoken among them with inflections of honor though he could be a threat just as easily. Hardragh. They would remember him and watch his progress....

 ---------------------------------------------

In the weeks following the battle of Hilm Castle, the diet returned to her place in Lor. It was the place she should be, and the city shuddered and flustered like an irritated bird just before settling as the tall blond woman walked through the streets. Just beside her, the dark elf, companion strode easily enough. None would ever say it to her face, but behind her they called her the Diet's shadow, dark and dangerous in all the ways a shadow is deceitful and poisonous. But not everyone is blinded by the justifiable distrust. Some know her for all she sacrificed, some know her for her pure strength of character and power.

Too they know the true depth of Diet Angela's power, that she was the protagonist in their side of the story. Her deeds in the war, despite Lor's small  part in it, were murmured in even the dark places of the city and the world beyond it's  docks. The two women would be remembered for their parts as well. For now the wise and gullible alike scattered out of their path like settling feathers.....

//Your influence in the world  has increased in the world, and your GMs have been dually notified for future developments for each. More to follow for several others....

General Discussion / Hi bye from an old player
« on: June 18, 2011, 06:19:25 am »
Hello everyone.

Here is just a small hi bye from one of the old dwarven players. Some might remember me as the dwarf Varka Cleaveson.

I thought I might drop a few lines to Layo as I did to Harlas.

Naaaayy. Since I stopped I always kept around though. Reading about what is going on in general but also keeping an eye on layos dwarven players. It has been and it is still fun seeing how Layo develops. I guess some of the other old players do the same thing. (If so just give a thumps up guys).

So, how is everyone doing in there? I can see that there is a few new WL around and that the Torans are starting a new group (every good initiative). Are there other new initiative like that? Did some make a nice exotic group like mix of orcs, deep dwarves and dark elves? And where are the treehuggers?

What about the dwarves! How does it look there? I follow roughly the submissions and character developments.

That is all for now. Take care in there and have fun! :)

General Discussion / Resigning as GM
« on: May 31, 2011, 04:40:17 am »
It is time for me to hand my GM batch to another.

The plot is nearing its end and the remaining parts are in very capable hands. ;)

So, after more years than I care to count I am resigning from my position as GM in Layonara's amazing Team of GMs.

Before I move on to being 'just' a player I have one thing I would like to ask all you players out there:

At times on quests where you feel wronged or feel that the outcome was not fair, please try to remember why the GMs are here. They are here to make this world around your characters a living and breathing entity that provides you with entertainment and fun. That is the basic idea.

So, instead of taking the fight to the GM and/or the Team, try to consider whether the incident in question is one that your character might deal with in an IC fashion - perhaps that was the intent of the GM in the first place.

Like you, GMs are people and people will walk away if you rattle them enough. After all, they are not acting GMs for their own sake, but for the sake of others.

This was not based on a recent episode or a current situation in game. Please consider this a plea that you might consider in the future. I have seen it happen too many times over the years and it simply burns people out, which ends up making this place less colourful and alive.

Finally, I wish you all the very best of luck and hope that many of you will continue to contribute to this magical place that is Layonara. For me the time has come to move on, although I will probably be around with Kobal now and then.

Kind regards,

Harlas

Version 3.30.2 is online!

There are no downloads required for this one.

Changes:
 • Minor fix to 121 Leringard Arms
 • Functional kitchen added to 137 Twin Dragons Inn
 • Full remodel for 165 The Silver Buckle

 • Changes to Fort Vehl to reflect Coalition GCDQ outcome
 • GM Placeable Objects (signs, etc) will change their examined descriptions now along with their usual mode of operation.
 • Fancy Fountain housing placeable will give water now like the Fresh Water Keg does
 • Adjustment to a CNR area (no, I'm not telling which)
 • A few area changes due to plot reasons. You'll know them when you see them.
 • A couple GM-only things I'm not mentioning here
Fixes:
 • East gate in Hlint now properly auto-closes
 • Fixed activation of one of the powers of Alandric's WLDQ reward
 • Fixed offset ground tiles in Port Hempstead, Crimson Eagles Memorial

 • Pickpockets in Lor should no longer affect invisible or G. Sanc'ed PCs
That's it!  Thanks to Alatriel, RollinsCat and whomever else may have contributed to this but about whom I've forgotten.

Enjoy!

Rumour Has It / Rael attack on Kuhl?
« on: January 11, 2011, 07:17:38 pm »
Rumours are sketchy and uncertain but it seems a small infiltration unit of Rael soldiers has appeared inside Kuhl near the Nesar border and engaged a number of Kuhl patrols in the area killing a number of drachs and a few Myr'drachs before disappearing into the forest.

The Lord of Ash has dispatched additional troops to the south along with two dragons to search the area.

Nesar have condemned the attacks, saying they are a provocation and unecessary against the nation of Kuhl.

Lord Rael has neither confirmed nor denied the attacks, refusing to make comment.

People are left wondering if this was just a pretense of Lord Rael to show the Cult he can strike where he likes too should he need to but really, who knows the truth?

Rumour Has It / A Quiet word passes by...
« on: December 21, 2010, 10:39:06 am »
An old DragonCalled, by name of Sallaron Tempest, who seemed to hold some reknown as a carpenter, has died of old age in his house in Haft Lake.
He left behind his wife, two sons and a small fortune in his will was given to various charities.

During the funeral, friends and neighbours were astounded to see a mass of people attend, many seeming to be Ex-slaves rescued from a terrible life, whilst others appeared to be those of great rank and standing from various organisations.

Neighbours were noted to have been amazed by the massive attendance to the funeral, stating " He seemed like such an ordinary man. "

General Discussion / And thats it....
« on: December 21, 2010, 10:15:37 am »
Well, this might have been seen coming, but its time I hung up the GM gloves.

RealLife has took a wonderful turn in the form of two crazy, mad-cap spawns of Mini-Me's, whom continue to suck and drain every ounce of will to live that I have ( kidding of course! ;)  )

Add to that various other things, and sadly I just don't have time for GMing anymore, so I'll put the GM Wand back on the self, and hope someone else will pick it up and have a wave.

But I do thank you for the opportunity I had to bring about some chaos, fun and laughs to this wonderful little world you've all created. I'll be sure to keep an eye out for the MMO when it's released, and likely bring about some great ancestor of the Tempest's to see it.

I wish you all well, and of course a Happy Christmas!

Rumour Has It / A flurry of activity in Hurm
« on: October 15, 2010, 08:05:19 pm »
There was a flurry of activity in Hurm this morning as the Regnant himself, Saviar Morgensen and several of his high ranked Overseers arrived at the extensive Shipbuilding yards in Hurm for an inspection.

Saviar seemed in good spirits amidst the flurry caused by his impromptu visit and inspection. He seemed most interested in the projects about to be completed and spoke at length with several of the Master Builders about a potential new lucrative contract that he was working on.

The visit stretched for some time after the consultations as he inspected every section of the building yards and even some of the ships in the final stages of construction. As he left there was a buzz of excitement at the suggestion of a major contract coming their way.

Layonara Server / Forums and IRC - September 24, 2010
« on: September 24, 2010, 09:29:26 am »
Dear Layonara Community,

We are aware that there continue to be issues with the forums, and efforts continue to bring them back to the proper level of functionality, including the visibility of posts made prior to last night (US/Canada time zones). It is pretty much a forum-wide problem that affects everyone equally, including those of us with higher-level access.

A side effect of the database problem affecting the forums is that the NickServ, ChanServ and aragen services on IRC are also down.

All I know about is that the forum database experienced a couple of crashes over the last couple of days, requiring a repair process.  Last night, orth indicated to me that the database in question was quite large and he did not know how long it would take to run the repair completely.

At this time, I can offer no information as to when these services will be back in full operation or whether any data has been lost and/or corrupted due to the crash.  I do not yet know the root cause of these problems either.

We are aware that this causes an inconvenience to people and a difficulty in conducting various RP and social functions for Layonara.  We're also aware that this has likely suspended things like Character Applications, as the CA team cannot access the threads to comment upon or approve them.

So please bear with us as we work to sort this out.  As more information becomes available, someone will update everyone.  Until that happens, please assume that things are not working properly and assume that we are working toward a fix.

Roleplaying / WL frustrated with options offered
« on: June 28, 2010, 10:11:21 am »
So now that I have played for quite a few years I have seen a rather strange tendency over the years. Seemingly the player get less and less influence on the world, the WLs(/epics) in particular.

Back in the day epics were really really epic, I mean they were the leaders of their churchs, almost avatars of their gods, dragons, you name it...

Now it is all about handing XP out to people who are doing a great job in the gameworld... Not that this is bad for anyone, however the change is...

I agree that there was some point in Layonara history where there were too huge a gap between what "normal players" and WL's could do. But right now no one can do anything which seems even more silly than someone can do something.

Maybe it is just me, but besides one event that took place a couple of years ago I have been unable to do -anything- what so ever to affect the gameworld. I mean really, it has even gone to the point where even if I don't do something things will happen anyway. So now playing is more like getting told, oh you know this thing will happen in the future, you don't have to do anything it will happen no matter what.

((What I have tried so far:

Contacting GMs
Involving other players
RPing IG
Answering IC forum posts))

Well alright, if that is the case why even play, because one of the reasons I really liked playing here was that every action has consequences.. Well that is cool, as long as you can actually do something that matters in the first place.

Instead I feel stuck in a place where GM's can make a character ten times stronger than mine and with a hundred times the options while having their morning coffee(At least it feels that way to me, I have no idea how NPCs are approved, but just the fact that Storold doesn't actually have a rank as such makes it very easy to make something better.). So all you are left with is following the arrows on the floor and kill the occasional monster in your way, or of course join the eternal grind towards having all upgrades on all your gear and watch your XP counter tick up towards infinity.

General Discussion / You Will Be Missed
« on: March 16, 2010, 08:09:54 pm »
Jonathan Selmek aka Daren Valhaikor aka poohbear383340 died this morning in a fatal car crash.

He was a great roleplayer and really knew how to throw you a curve. His characters were well known and quite diverse from each other.

You will be sorely missed.

General Discussion / Stepping Down from GM'ing
« on: February 27, 2010, 12:45:15 am »
Well folks, it has come that time for me to step down from being a GM. Thanks to L and the team for allowing me the opportunity to be a part of the team.

I have been on this server for over five years now and GM'ed for the last year or so of it between deployments. It was definitely interesting to see how the server operated behind the curtain.

I appreciate all the fun that I had while serving the server. I enjoyed my time helping players, running impromptu quests (my favorite by far), and bringing the world alive by possessing NPCs (especially animals), changing spawns, and keeping players on their toes. There are truly fantastic RP'ers in our community and it is constant. There is almost always someone RPing in some form or fashion all of the time. There are different styles and different levels, thank you for the education from that side of the field.

Thanks again,
twidget
