Introduce Yourself / Hi there!
« on: July 23, 2014, 11:31:29 am »
I am new to Layonara so just wanted to say a big hello to all! I have not played Neverwinter Nights for many years, and used to play on Wyrdwood and Arvale back in the day. Looking around for a good roleplaying server and this seems perfect. Had a read through the rules and skimmed through the lore and it looks great. Just submitted my first character and I look forward to meeting players, characters and DMs in-game!

General Discussion / Hello all.
« on: May 28, 2014, 01:46:07 pm »
Greetings and well met again. And sorry for the advertising spam already (I hope it is alright, since this hasn't got to do with PC games, or games in general).A fellow I met a few years back at some LARPs, asked me if I was interested in playing a part in a short film of his, called Sympathy For Count Dracula, which portrays the life of the common finn who has no chance on getting work, has to "rob" grocery stores' dumpsters to keep himself fed and so forth (yes it is reality), yet the common finn happens to be Count Dracula.I thought about it for a few minutes and agreed.I play the part of a over-ambitious janitor of some apartment building complex, and well, if you want to see it, I presume it will come available in some form or the other, maybe even near-ish you. Anyhow, and sorry for this, which does not fit into this website, for it is a Facebook link. :) Yet I think it is the only format to check the procedure and news about the flick.Anyhow, here goes,https://www.facebook.com/SympathyforCountDracula Everyone have a wonderful time, ya hear? :)Timo K. General Discussion / Development Opportunities...
« on: May 23, 2014, 02:06:36 pm »
It can sometimes be frustrating when trying to develop a character along a certain tangent to prepare them for the CDQ that will push them over the threshold to reaching their goal, or fleshing out that CDT for a request. From the GM side it can also be hard to come up with a good idea for a CDQ without some background story to work from. If this is something you are experiencing, please read on.An aspiring weapon master with no master...?A devotee of a certain deity with nobody to teach them the basics...?A shadowy rogue wanting to probe possible membership in a thieves’ guild...?An adept wanting to learn more about Al'Noth and its applications...?The list goes on and on. I'm going to take requests for a while from players needing some extra GM involvement with their characters to help with this. If you are interested, post something here and I will start a thread and we can get the ball rolling. This is an excellent opportunity to start a plot or tangent you can use to later request a super high quality CDQ.

Rumour Has It / Adversary
« on: April 03, 2014, 12:14:44 am »
// Thread for Borris's CDQ and any involved. The smell of tar, dead fish, and seaweed was thick in the hull of the ship. Young Pirate Breaksalot was curled in a ball in the corner of the ship's hold, an iron manacle fastened around his ankle. He was a hardscrabble kid, raised on the mean streets of Vehl... but he was still a kid. Tears welled up in his eyes as he listened to the two men above decks."We're awaiting some more supplies and a few more deliveries. We should be able to sail out with the outgoing tide this evening."The voice of the other individual was cold as ice. "See to it there are no problems. If this load of meat is delayed, the sanctum will be displeased... and if they are displeased it may be your carcass on the Dark Lord's altar. Keep your men below deck. We don't want any problems with the local Rofirein contingents."

Layonara Server / And the award goes to...
« on: February 26, 2013, 09:57:48 am »
Well, this has taken me longer than expected to put up the winners of the first ever GM awards due to various reasons, but here we go, in case you've forgotten.

*** The Popular One ***
Chosen by the community
Winner: Dezza
Reward: 1 level of XP

*** Sovereign of the Nerds ***
Chosen by the GM Team
Winner: miltonyorkcastle
Reward: 1 level of XP

*** Best in Quest ***
Awarded for most quests during the Bonus XP event
Winner: Dezza, 3 quests
Reward: 15 hours of XP (5h/quest)

*** Most Generous ***
Most uses of RP XP wand during Bonus XP event
Winner: Alatriel, used 14 times on 62 characters
Reward: 14 hours of XP (1h/use)

*** Lingering Rewards ***
Awarded for the most uses of AutoXP during Bonus XP event
Winner: Lance Stargazer, used 16 times
Reward: AutoXP at Level 3 for 23 days (1 RL week + 1RL day/use)
And of course, one level of XP goes to all GMs on top of any rewards that may be given above...With an important exception. One of our GMs, who wishes to remain anonymous, has decided to forfeit the reward earned and instead give it back to the community.  As a result, every recently-active character will be granted AutoXP for a period of two RL weeks.  This will start soon (once I get it set up). Keep a watch!

Thanks to everyone who voted and participated.

Layonara Server / Server Troubles
« on: February 14, 2013, 05:46:29 pm »
The powers that be have been contacted in some forms regarding the server troubles happening right now. When they can they will be finding out what's going on and trying to restore things to normal if at all possible. (Sometimes these things are beyond our control of course!)

Thanks in advance for your patience.

Rumour Has It / Wedding of the year?
« on: February 08, 2013, 04:01:18 am »
// Because I couldn't resist!

Rumours begin to circulate through Tyr-Song and Westerngate of the impending marriage between a notable figure in the city and his equally ardent betrothed.

Sir Maxamilian De'Lourney, Knight Captain of the Wyrm, Servant of Rofirein, Instructor of the Code to wed Rofireinite Protector and Rofireinite Emissary to Taur'en, Samantha Merritt

It is believed that the Merritt family of Westerngate and the De'Lourney family of Tyr-Song are going to invite many of the poorest families between the two cities to a celebratory feast at the same time they celebrate with their own friends and guests to share the love and joy of the occassion.

Sounds like an expensive affair but a noble one! Best wishes to them both!

Rumour Has It / Treasure to be found!
« on: January 29, 2013, 04:41:01 am »
Somewhere deep in the Swamp of Sorrows on Alindor, a small Tower is rumoured to be found. Within this tower, guarded by fiersome constructs and likely some form of addled evil wizard, is a treasure trove of some kind.

If adventurer's were able to find the tower, hidden deep in the swamps, and fight their way past its guardians... who knows what ancient relics of chests of gold they might find.

( Hidden treasure for any low level group to find )
( Please no +20 lvl chars going to solo it. Aimed at low level groups )

Hello!

Firstly, Layonara's servers will be renewed again for a year. Yay! So you can rest easy that as long as there are volunteers to keep the cogs greased the world will continue to run.

Secondly, there are about to be some significant changes to the sites. Every Layonara site and feature has been rolled into one all new site. That includes LORE, the forums, the gallery, the calendar, the character pages, the personal messages, the downloads, the devlog etc.

Let me say the new site is awesome. I can't begin to describe how many features exist. I think players will love the ability to tag anything with your character and then your character's page aggregates all this information. Whether it's a forum topic, a gallery image, maybe quest participation each "node" can be associated with as many characters as you wish.

Here's a current screenshot of the front page to give you an idea of the look and feel of the site.

Anyway, it's getting pretty darn close to being ready so I hope you share in my excitement for its new launch. I'm sure some of you will be a bit concerned with transitioning to a new system but we've tried to keep every single feature that exists already into the new site.

I'll be happy to answer any questions about the new site and we'll go through a period of adjustment I'm sure but moving forward to have the entire codebase in one place is a real benefit to everyone's end.

Also as you may already know, the servers are being paid for their annual renewal again and every dollar you can help to donate will ease my expenses. I've included the links to donate once again for your convenience.

Thank you,
James

General Discussion / End of an Era
« on: January 02, 2013, 12:57:42 pm »
For many of you this will come as no surprise, my absences of late  saying far more than words.  I wanted though to remove doubts and make  it official.

When I joined way back, Layonara was a different place with a different  vibe but like all things it has evolved over the years. People and  places change and sometimes relationships grow apart.  Its hard to admit  when something no longer works and that apart is far better than  together.
Layonara was a salvation in my life in a time when I needed an escape  from my reality.  Now Layonara only serves mostly as a catalyst of angst  and that's not the way it is supposed to be.

So from here forward I am stepping down as an active game master and  administrator.  I will still be around in the background as part of the  team for Lore consultations and I still have some quest loose ends to  tie up or move to other game masters.  I am not leaving all together as I  will be turning my concentration to the art of the MMO and writing.

Sincerely
  Minerva

Layonara Server / Bonus XP Week....ish
« on: December 17, 2012, 11:34:38 pm »
Do I have your attention?  *grins*

It's time again for one of our famous bonus XP events.  Here's the details:
 • Begins on Saturday, December 22, 2012 *
 • 50% more XP from combat
 • 100% more XP from GM-led quests/events, RP rewards and Auto XP
 • Ends on Tuesday, January 1, 2013 *
* Start and end times will depend on when I get to it

Bear in mind it is the holidays, and GM availability will be subject to other obligations first, but I've gotten assurances from at least some of our GMs for scheduled and impromptu events and the like.

Rewards for RP are rated higher than combat, so remember to make time for it.  There have been several new characters lately from new and old players alike, so hopefully there will be some good opportunities for all.  Old faces are always good as well, of course. Make something happen!

Bug Reports / The Great Rift, first spawn at the City
« on: November 29, 2012, 02:51:42 pm »
Location: The Great Rift, Central, City at bottom, right past the bridges.

Reproducable:

Verified:

Description: The first spawn at the Great Rift's city has given 5-6 mages per spawn lately with the current server being "up". The first time Unther and Dan Hardhammer went there (Rift was untouched, traps and all that), the spawn worked as usual.
Having 5-6 mages in the spawn pretty much makes it impossible for any level 20-ish party to cross the place alive, what with them having premonition and tossing 40-60 damage dealing Meteor Showers and Horrid Wiltings in unison.

General Discussion / The time has come...
« on: November 11, 2012, 10:06:39 pm »
Greetings Layonara Community,

It is with mixed feelings that I announce my retirement from the develoment of NWN-based Layonara after doing this for seven years and some change.  This is a move I have planned for some time (and almost did several times), and which has been needed for some time, but I am only just now making it a reality.  My development focus is now shifting completely to the MMO effort and Layonara's long-term future.

To keep NWN Layonara going in a development sense, I now officially pass the torch to the capable hands of Script Wrecked, who will now be responsible for all future fixes and updates.

I know you've all heard this plenty of times, but...this is not a “good-bye” letter. I am still very committed to and invested in Layonara and its long-term future. I still like to play here even (when the stars align properly), GM here and participate in this community. I do not see these things changing.  My presence will remain, but my fingerprints will no longer be on the updates.

There's not a lot more to say here, so join with me in congratulating Script Wrecked on his new position.

Hall of Heroes and Heroines / Sallaron Tempest
« on: December 21, 2010, 10:33:15 am »
Sallaron Tempest.

For many, the name may have little to no meaning. Just an ordinary name for what was supposed to be an ordinary man. So ordinary, that the only thing this man ever wanted ... was to be ordinary. Live out an ordinary, simple life.
And he tried so very hard to have the ordinary life, fought so hard to have it, and fought even harder to keep it, that in the end... it became so very far removed from an ordinary life that he himself would find himself a hero.

Some may perhaps come across his journal. Some may consider it a mish-mash of unexplainable jargon. Others may find it worth the read, with pearls of wisdom hidden within its lines.

Others, perhaps of a certain character, might perhaps recognise his other name, Lord Reaver.
A name chosen for him by another, and given to Sallaron to protect his family from the things he was forced to do, and had to do, to keep them safe.
Step into Hurm and ask of the name, and hear what tales they tell of this ordinary man. I guarantee you will be surprised.

And if you should know the secret of Folian's Wood, pass through there, in the depths of the Forest of Mists. Pass through Folian's pass, and find the stream by the cliffs, and the old bench that sits there.
Take a moment to sit and rest, and read the moss covered plaque.
And remember, that there is no such thing, as an ordinary life....
