General Discussion / Re: Use Magic Device

there's  a great WIKI guide on NWN Wiki. says the minimum number needed to use lvl 9 scrolls, its in the 20's, no sense in going higher  good info on builds as well.  If i find it ill post a link, UMD is good for using cross class items as well. IE monk boots, and wizard robes. specific rings. special bows and alignment restriction items,  cant wield exotics without the feat though.

As the others have expressed, UMD does function on Layo. However, the DCs are higher than stock NWN, I'm pretty sure. My suggestion is if you plan to use the skill, keep it maxed out.

It works fine yes.  There was a formula for rogues trying to use scrolls based on the scroll spell level.  Cant recall it but i kinda remember needing a umd in hi 20's to use 9th lvl scrolls.  There are some kinks with rogue and another spellcasting class when using scrolls but cant recall.  I think a umd of 15 to 20 should let you use most items.

I think it works like standard  nwn.  Nwn wiki is a good guide.  One caveat is if your a mage that specializes then they cant use scrolls of the forbidden/omitted school even with UMD

Roleplaying / Corso Escapes!
« on: March 29, 2021, 12:12:06 pm »
After more than a year of raiding the roads and coasts of the Liwich, Boyer, and Sedera Kingdoms, the brigand known as Corso met his demise at the hands of a motley and determined crew of bounty hunters in the employ of the Liwich Kingdom. Death wasn't enough to end him, however, if the stories are to be believed. The bounty hunters claim that Corso is stonebound, and he subsequently has escaped prison for the time being.

Liwich and Boyer authorities further claim to have confirmed the bounty hunters' story after examining Corso's former hideout. And despite Corso's escape, his small army of pirates, thieves, and mercenaries has been disbanded or slain, and his ships and supplies confiscated. Angela Liwich considers this a win, though she is purportedly still in the market for skilled trackers to find and capture Corso.

//// A little late in posting this, but my last week suddenly got whacky busy and I'm just now catching my breath. Feel free to RP in this thread, and yes, eventually there will be further quests involving the attempt to capture the stonebound criminal Corso. Thank you to everyone that attended, and I apologize for the sudden disappearance right at the end, and for all the various hiccups along the way. It was my first NWN quest to run in a rather long time, and I had to relearn some things along the way, heh. //////

Let me rephrase then: Having the algorithm come up with the wrong time is an issue I will have to endure. Another thing is folks just not caring that a quest is about to start. That is where we have to differentiate. If there is a set date /appointment I do all the preparations in advance to show up on point and not start preparing by the time the meeting is already supposed to take place. I know my boss will be pretty angry if I don't show up on a meeting on time.

Furthermore, I also provided the UTC (https://www.timeanddate.com/time/aboututc.html) starting time so it is easy to determine and look up the local time. EDT is UTC-4, EST is UTC-5. AEST is UTC+10, AEDT is UTC+11, just to give a few examples. Timezones can be tricky, especially with Daylight Savings starting happening not universally around the globe, hence providing the UTC time.

Yes it is and if you had any credit you could have used up to 50% of that credit, to bring the total down to 50% of the lense.

*sweat droplets darken spots in her journal as she sits under a tree relaxing after along hard training...

Bah...shoveling sand is nothing compared to what those bloody dwarves put me through today. I forgot how tired one can feel after swinging an axe all day. Brings back memories of my days back at the temple.

Van is a tough taskmaster when he wants to be. To be fair, I did ask for it. He thought  he was gonna  be gentle with me, til I forced him to put the screws in by whacking him on the head! If I am to be a true battle mage of the father...no quarter in training as no quarter will be given in a battle.

Gumbo was no better, though he was smart enough to start out giving me a good beating when I messed up. Didnt want to end up with me giving him a swat like I did to Van.

Still...these bruises are a good start and they are pretty good teachers in learning various tactics against different weapons.

*after putting her journal away, rubbing some linament on her joints and bruises, she finishes her beer and passes out from exhaustion.

Greetings and best wishes for the holiday season everyone.

First off as of now a bonus event is running with the Soul Mother being inactive, extra GP and extra XP! I am not going to set an ending date quite yet so just enjoy it while it lasts.

Secondly as most of you probably know, NWN has had a new release and Layonara is still on the old release. I've been preparing for the migration to the new release and It's all ready, just need to test it out a bit more and turn the switch. I'm just holding off until I know most of the community will be ready to move to this new edition. Some older computers may not be able run NWN:EE 8196+ as it's 64 bit and requires a bit more GPU than the previous edition. Either way, we're going to have to migrate sooner or later so I'll buy a bit more time by testing the new version.

All the best,
orth

Bug Reports / Re: Character freezes while enemies keep fighting
« on: September 21, 2019, 10:07:10 am »
I think were talking about two distinct issues/bugs but very similar.  The first occurs when initiating an attack on an opponent and you sometimes run through the opponent, but the end result is you just sit there bobbing next to the opponent as he dings you...i call this bobbing.  The second issue is when you kill an opponent and it appears that the other opponents are just outside your range so you character does this side to side, double-take thing but doesnt attack...i call that rocking.
