•   Quickslot the AFK emote and use it every time you go AFK
•   If you crash and can’t get back in or RL interferes and you suddenly have to log – please either put it in the general Layonara channel on Discord or PM me on discord
•   If you need a break, let me know and I will arrange one
•   We have regular breaks around the in-game resting – if you need a cup of coffee, a snack or a bio this is the time to do it
•   Please try and wait for looters and healers before moving on even if you are a battlerager – is a courtesy to the player not character

Thank you Orth for helping me get back into my original forum profile!  It's good to be connected again and I'm sure it will take me a few day/weeks to re-acclimate to the server, but am looking forward to catching up with what's new on Layonara and old playing companions, as well as making new friends...see you all in game!

@orth, should be able to hook you up with that...  Also, there is a Discord channel that he monitors closely.

Hey Brutus, if you just join Layonara and create a test character named "Brutus Test" I will be able to transfer your existing characters over for you.

The human leaves the dwarves talking and the other meditating. Itching to try his blades he heads back down the mountain by himself. Finally making it back to the fire near civilization with no resistance he finds a gnome who enlists his aid back up the mountain to take on the giant King himself, he says.

After a few hours of running around in the mountains they find more help and finally beat in the door and slowly make  their way to the King. Annoyed that his lackeys are not killing us off he comes at us and puts up a good fight. Finding a few ingots on him we make our way back out where the story teller meets his demise at the entrance with a well placed spell he is knocked down and beaten into the ground by several giants. Raised and healed they move out, split the loot at a safe spot and think about the stories to share at the tavern among friends.

Martlet, Johnny, Van, Glitch Gumbo, Lil, Abi defeated the giant king.

A party of 4 makes camp  in a nearby cave on Thunderpeaks, one sits meditating, two red bearded dwarves are discussing the best tactics to get out and a  human sits sharpening his twin blades.

*Martlet unrolls a large map of the world with numerous annotations made in a tiny, but flowing script. Uttering a quiet command various locations on the map begin to glow with a deep green hue, while a single place – the Glittering Isles – light up with a deep red hue. Most, however, remain as they are.*

“So where to next?

//Post suggestions below please and I will edit them in.

  • The Emerald Skull
  • The Moss Crypt
  • Shadison Viper?
  • Orsgaunt? temples

Layonara Server / Please welcome Tobias to the GM Team!
« on: June 24, 2019, 05:34:21 pm »
Were pleased to announce we've selected Tobias to help us out with some GM duties. He's shown a strong ability to coordinate player events, helped me out with many things in the transfer to EE, contributed to module development and has experience with the DM client and DMing on Layonara. Tobias will start out getting re-acquainted with the tools doing some small flavour and impromptu things then we hope he will soon be able to start contributing to quests. Please welcome him back!

General Discussion / Layonara is now on Discord
« on: April 10, 2017, 01:34:40 pm »
Layonara now has its own server on Discord.

We're happy to bring you this new and improved community experience, as Discord brings many tools to our forum and chat that were not previously possible in IRC. IRC will still be working as we use a bot to communicate between Discord and IRC but we encourage you to try out Discord whether it's through the web interface, the mobile app or if you download the application.

Discord also keeps track of past conversations so you can catch up with anything you've missed being discussed. And for the brave among you we can set up some voice channels for you to discuss some things with a mic if that is your preferred method of communication.

To join, just follow this link:

Stay tuned, some more things are coming to Layonara as well!

Ancients Legacy / Plot status -- 11-Dec-2014
« on: December 17, 2014, 10:23:58 pm »
Rowana and I wanted to give everyone a quick update on the status of the plot quest and what's going to happen over the next couple of months. Also, thanks to everyone who has been involved and actively participating so far.The first and most important thing to note is that there will not be any main plot quests for the month of December. This is primarily due to generally full and/or hectic schedules people have during the holidays. The next main plot quest is currently intended for late January, and we'll get that up on the calendar when we're certain of it.Having said this, in the interim, there will be plot-related happenings serving as backdrop and potentially more information. Also, a few of you have some open threads of investigation...some initiated and some not. If we're waiting on you for information or to start the effort, please get that moving. If you're waiting on us, please PM us. Whatever the case, sooner is better.Lastly, some advice...Please remember this is a group effort. I know that some of your characters are not “team players” (you know who you are *winks*), and that is fine, but I highly suggest, if you are not already doing so, share what you have learned individually and do not, if at all possible, wait until the day of the next quest to catch people up. Likewise, if you are lacking information or wish to get caught up, try and meet up with someone else before the next session. Generally speaking, you'll “succeed” or “fail” as a group. Specific results may pivot on the decisions and actions of individuals, but remember this is plot-level, and the outcome of all of this will impact the world, for better or worse, at the end of it all. A few of you have picked up some important clues along the way. A few of you got some very important information on the last quest session, so, like I said, share.

Layonara Server / The NWN Servers are going to be moved
« on: December 04, 2014, 06:55:48 pm »
Hello everyone,I hope you and your loved ones are all well.I've recently been able to secure a great deal for the NWN Server on a much faster machine on a Black Friday special so we're going to be moving it over there some time in the near future.I'd like to get the server up and tested this month so we can confirm that everything is okay to go and I can cancel our previous account before the end of the month. I haven't yet set an exact date and time but I'm thinking maybe late Friday or Saturday night this week.Players shouldn't notice any difference, you will still connect to xora.layonara.com (5121 or 5122).  The IP address will change if you use that but I'll inform you of the new one when the time comes. This may also mean we can revert to automatic cross-server portals without crashes which might be nice but we'll have to test that. The new server will only cost $40 a month in donations so we can hopefully extend NWN Layonara at a fairly inexpensive price for as long as folks still enjoy coming here. For those curious and in the tech know:Existing server is a 4GB RAM, Dual 2.53GHz CPU, 250GB SATA HD running Windows 2k3 Server dedicated system.New server is a 10GB RAM, 10 2.3GHz CPU, 100GB Turbo SSD HD running Windows 2k8 Server cloud server. My initial tests have the servers starting up in half the time the old ones did. I'm not sure how much this will help lag and larger groups but we'll hopefully be able to test that. All the best,-orth

Zigruum was moving through the deep snow at a fast pace, his snow shoes carving wide swaths in the packed ice crystals. A thick rime had collected on his whiskers as his breath froze on his facial hair. The sky was clear and the sun reflected off of the surrounding snow banks of Black Ice Isle. The polar bears had been in hibernation for a couple of months and he was nearly complete documenting all of the den sites in the area when he noticed something strange and stopped in his tracks. It was silent. Too silent. No signs of nature. The smaller animals and birds should be out in force with the sun break and lack of blizzard weather… but there were none. Something was wrong. The dwarven druid began a careful and cautious search. Soon he heard some loud and raucous laughing. He wiggled his way to the top of a small hillock and was stunned at what he saw. Three Frost Giants were dragging the dead bodies of two polar bears. A now motherless cub was crying and following them. One of the giants rushed at the cub and with a powerful swing of a massive iron hammer punched the cub deep into the snow and soil, killing it instantly for no other reason than to kill it. Rage flooded into Zigruum. Again they began laughing and speaking to each other in their loud foreign language. If there were many more of these giants the balance was in danger of tipping, but Zigruum knew he was no match for them alone. He backed out of his vantage point and headed for the nearest settlement to send word for help. //Thank you Willhoff for permission to use Zigruum in this quest start up.This is a static quest and it has been placed in-game. Feel free to use this thread for RP/Forum posts. Significant posting will also be rewarded at the conclusion of the quest. Use caution, it can be a tough one depending on the party mix and levels. The soul mother is active and a balanced group is advised. Rewards have been placed as well. Good luck! PS - It is advised that all solo players avoid Black Ice Isle until this quest has been completed. Also, DO NOT sneak in invisibly and steal the quest rewards. You will be punished if you do so in a creative and not-so pleasant manner. At the conclusion of the quest, please PM me and let me know what loot you found to confirm fair play.-Rave

Ancients Legacy / Dig Site
« on: October 26, 2014, 10:09:10 am »

The area of the site stretches across four horse lengths by another four. The ground has a low incline, appearing almost level compared to the rest of the surrounding mountainous land. Within the dig site, there is very little marked. A cloth has been pulled over a patch of land and folded up, revealing a wall segment. It juts up fromt the rest of the land like a partially buried boulder - however, the surface is somewhat smoothed. On its leftmost side as one faces the rock from its buried bottom, the edge of the rock cuts across some carvings, making them indecipherable or incomplete (as is the wall, obviously), but the pattern of four of the seven constellations currently in question remain visibly carved firmly into the wall by some unknown hand. Goran, Lucinda, Deliar, and Aragen, appearing in the places they might in the sky at this time.

After they've spoken for some time, and Katelyn has suggested her plan, Acacea rubs her cheek and looks around.

So... just to recap before you try that! There was probably some kinda wall somewhere before the Breaking, whether a temple or a shrine or even just a wall standing by itself to look neat, and it had the latest constellation patterns on it, which only became interesting when ...it became the latest constellation patterns on it! Probably all seven, though we're guessing 'cause Shindy, Dorand, and Prunilla have not made it with the rest of the wall... all blown up and such... See, what DID make it intact is like the sky right now! Or would be, were it dark! So a pretty good guess!

But things were flung from all over and valleys became mountains and there were volcanos and there were landmasses broken and islands sunk and all sorts of stuff in the Cataclysm, so we don't know where this wall was before, that we could look more into to see if there was some kind of prophecy stuff happening there!

So! The cat person said it most probably came from down and not up, and we'd have to go down. Ferrit's granddaughter (I need something shorter!) wants to try using the Couple's connection to see if we couldn't find where Prunilla went, though hopefully she's not just sand at this point...

Myself, I do not really have much else here, I think. The casters said it wasn't magic - maybe it was magic when it was whole, MAYBE, but it's not now, and I don't really have anything to go on, either! My other thing is that I was hoping there would be some magical hint here that tied the goings-on with the missing people. All we could divine ...or... they... could divine... She sighs. was that at least two were alive, and the recent boy is somewhere dark, maybe below. I'd like to know how the other one the lady looked at was 'different', too.

Even if these are not connected, I would like them found safe! There might be more we could look for by finding more missing peoples and trying to work backwards or combine focuseseses. So I think we've only got more questions, so we might as well hop to looking for things that might point us towards some answers... Whether hand-holdy holy water prayers, missing persons hunts, pre-cataclysmic map hunting, digging, legend hunting, and so on!

She smiles brightly. Unfortunately, a lot of that is, from what I hear, things people have been trying to do already with the stars changing, with no luck so far. So! Carry on...

Rumour Has It / Silver Buckle - Shadow from the Past...
« on: October 22, 2014, 11:54:28 pm »
The hooded and cloaked stranger walked through the main doorway of the Silver Buckle. Music spilled into the street briefly before the door closed behind her. The gold buttons and eyelets of her tight fitting leather jerkin glinted in the light of the oil lamps as she lowered the hood attached to her black velvet cloak. She shook out her long black hair and walked over to the bar. More than one patron allowed his gaze to linger upon her shapely form a little longer than many would consider “proper”, but she did not seem to mind. She took a seat on one of the stools and began watching the regulars, occasionally smiling or making “small talk.”

Leringard Arms Inn and Tavern / Memories in Song
« on: October 21, 2014, 11:27:43 pm »
At the Arms one autumn evening, the jukebox begins to play an old song; The Gypsy of Leringard greets late-nighters and staff who happen in, and the whirling bright sound of it drifts through frozen streets. The fiddle plays out memories of fiery hair and emerald eyes, and is soon joined by the breathy voice of a dancing flute. Though a familiar tune, and not unloved, it appears to keep being set on this whenever changed... from elsewhere in the inn a pair of pipes echo the flute's part to sing with the gypsy's violin.

Ancients Legacy / Digging for Answers or Another Brick in the Wall
« on: October 20, 2014, 02:03:02 am »
"And so he's sitting there at the table," he said, clearly bemused, "Talking about this ancient wall he found. He said it's up in the mountains and was trying to see who wanted to come look at it with him."" An 'ancient wall'?" the halfling woman asked, curious."Aye," the man answered. He took a long swallow from his tea. "It certainly was curious! I mean he makes a real sell with the supposed partial carvings of the four deities. Deliar is among these so I cannot help but be curious.""Are you thinking of going?" she asked. "I am, but I don't know if I'd have time," he answered, somewhat disappointed with the admission. "I cannot miss my window of opportunity in Fort Vehl. You know how it is there...." She nodded and tugged at her lower lip briefly. "If I didn't have this full load of textiles...""Well maybe put the word out?" she suggests hopefully, "With all that's going on, some answers certainly wouldn't hurt return everything to something more normal." She shook her head, "If that 'soothesayer' comes out to the fields again to preach at us about 'end of the world as we know it,' I think I'm going to lose my mind. Doesn't he have to prepare for winter like the rest of us?" She makes a disgusted sound but then shrugs. He snorted in reply. "Some of these people," he said in agreement with her sentiment, "No sense in them. If we go to pieces after every 'major happening' how in Layonara would we ever recover from the real tragedies?" He laughed a little. "Yes, I think I might pass this along on my route. I wasn't the only traveler in the bar tht night. Some people were far more taken in too. You know, what with the way people are reacting to the star movements and all." She nodded soberly. "Until He tells me otherwise, I have a schedule to keep!" he says dramatically, stabbing one stubby finger in the air. She laughed then laid her head down on his shoulder. "Well either way," she says, "I'm glad it was an interesting evening and you kept your sense and came home to me instead." He grinned at her."Like there's any contest.""Lay it on thick," she snorted and then laughed. ----------------------------------------------------------------------Some days later, at the sensible advice from his wife, the halfling trader was in the bar along his route sharing the story of the gnome he met in Brenuth. Good food and ale in his belly to warm him, he shares the tale again and again of the mysterious artifact from another era, supposedly carrying the marks of four of The Seven, including his own Deliar.

Ancients Legacy / Ships in the Night
« on: October 12, 2014, 10:49:35 pm »
When Shindaleria's stars first moved months ago, shipping traffic all across Layonara ground nearly to a complete halt. Between supersition inherent in many who make a living on the seas and the distruption of their usual navigation aids, most captains became unwilling to brave the open waters and cross the oceans between continents, opting instead to stick with costal runs if they even left port at all.  Only the most experienced captains...those who knew other ways of navigating besides relying upon the stars of the gods...would brave the high seas.  Fortunately for them, the need of their services grew quickly, as did the price merchants and traders were willing to pay to have their goods shipped over those distances. For those who adapted quickly, the last several months have been very profitable indeed.Yet this boon was relatively short-lived, as gradually captains and crews adapted to this new normal, slowly put aside their supersitions as ocean-going ships returned to port safe, sound and loaded with cargo from distant ports, and learned other ways to use the skies to find their way at night.  Now, a few months after the last of the star movements settled into place, there is almost no sign there was any impact at all.But for the new arrangment of the skies, life at sea has returned to normal.
