General Discussion / Sad demise of the Festive Season bonuses
« on: January 25, 2015, 10:54:35 am »
It was with a terrible sadness that I logged onto the game server, took my character out for a run about the environs of Layonara and saw that the xps had been returned to their normal amounts. I assume the gold has done likewise, but it wasn't anything I really paid attention to. I also assume that the Soul Mother has been retired in all her previous horror too and that was something that limited my play.Such a shame. With the xps boosted, it actually felt like my characters were getting somewhere at last and those far-off levels seemed that little bit nearer. And I know you say it's not about levels, but when you're aiming to put a lvl IV enhancement on your weapon, or get that set of mithril armour or that next feat to make things more interesting, then it's all about levels. And with the Soul Mother taking a holiday, I went to places I'd never been before (in company with the "Hoff" boys, thanks) and explored deeper into areas where I had balked out from before. Now? I won't go exploring as deeply and there are loads of places I won't even attempt to go 'cos I can't hit them - but then, that's another level thing. My point is, the boosted xps and the Soul Mother holiday meant a lot and felt better somehow and I'm sure I'm not alone.Anyone else?

Rumour Has It / The very nut of the spirit of famine aid
« on: June 21, 2012, 04:27:48 pm »
*A tired and bedraggled Portlie Dumas distributes raw foodstuffs at Center and the Dumas brother's home town of Hlint to try to help relieve the pressure of the famine. Along the way, he comes across Jilseponie Kendall and offers her some raw foods as well to help spread the goodwill even further.*

//Chests have been placed in Center and Hlint for anyone who wants to use the raw materials to help make food for the famine relief.

Rumour Has It / Lost cat
« on: March 12, 2012, 05:01:37 pm »
*A note is posted around the various inns and crafting halls*

While out collecting some lichens on Krashin, Ygraine of the Ursus Clan came across a family of cats who were starving. She took them under her protection and led them to a safer place, but lost one of the cats along the way.

A reward is offered to anyone who can find and recover this lost cat.

// Since you can't interact with the npc cat, it has been given a name. Post the name here first to get a reward for finding the poor animal.

Rumour Has It / Lost in Krashin
« on: March 04, 2012, 04:55:31 pm »
*A note is posted  on the various noticeboards*

Ygraine Ursus was herding a small group of large cats to a safe haven but one has become lost somewhere in Krashin on the way out. Aa reward is offered to anyone who can safely recover the lost cat for her.

//The lost creature was created from a quest scroll and will be destroyed on the next server reset. The reward will be given to the first person/group who finds the cat and brings back it's name to Ygraine (post the name of the cat here as I don't think you can interact with the npc animal). The area is around level 8 (I think) so please don't use a vastly higher character to find it.

Good hunting.

Development Journals and Discussion / Discrediting Tyillaan
« on: August 23, 2010, 07:26:21 am »
//This thread will hold all the details on Eleandilethessa's part of the plot to discredit Tyillaan

duchess (Eleandilethessa Quil'lyn) has been asked by the leader (Ni'haer) of the group she is in to mimic Tyillaan with a view to making her suspect in murder/destruction around various places and to grow seeds of doubt in the minds of her friends.

Tyillaan and duchess used to be lovers, so duchess knows her well enough that a masquerade by duchess should have a reasonable chance of success (I hope).

 • In order for it to work, duchess will:
 • create an outfit in grey and purple to mimic Ty's
 • create a bow that looks similar
 • apply some makeups to only partially resemble her tattoos. Only partially as she will not be able to make exact copies, I guess, so if they are partial, part of that disguise will be to make it look as if the tattoos were trying to be covered, albeit unsuccessfully so that a part of them is showing
 • will talk in a stutter when in disguise and use her bow to attack and kill people
 • will use scrolls she has collected to inflct magical damage, especially fire to represent Ty's arcane archer arrows, to further make the attacks convincing
 • she will be unhooded from time to time to show facial tattoos, and her mimic armour will show bare arms and has thigh length boots which show some skin between boot and skirts
 • she will be on foot and will use her shadow dancer skills to evade capture following the deed. After the event and as soon as possible, she will pull her normal outdoors clothes on to revert to her normal self and hide the Ty impersonation
The plan is to attack and kill random helpless farmers and citizens that are easy prey and away from the major towns at the time of the attacks, a few at a time over a few weeks.

She will if possible, leave the occasional severely wounded or dying survivor after the first few attacks to recognise her and give a description based on the above. Robbery will appear to be the motive and will give her a chance to mimic the stutter as she robs a body near a wounded/dying farmer.

The start area will be around Fort Llast and move to Krandor then Haven and without any pattern (she will roll a random dice to decide which area to go to next).

//this is a copy of the original pm sent to MasterJack and placed in here so the whole thread can be kept together.

More to follow once I get onto it.

Rumour Has It / Strange death at Misted Village
« on: June 04, 2010, 03:59:10 pm »
A rumour has reached the ears of the residents of Dalanther that a party of 'adventurers' penetrated Misted Village and wrecked some havoc there.

The reason this came to the attention of the Dalantherites is that it appears from reports that as they were leaving the village, one of these people called 'Rover' (or perhaps it was 'Dog') was killed by a dark elf called 'Legs'. It is unconfirmed and also unknown as to why this happened, but it seems that the 'adventurers' left the area soon afterwards and rather quickly.

Rumour Has It / Strange woman seen in Forest of Fog, by Corax Lake
« on: March 07, 2010, 08:27:30 am »
*A report is handed into Vale.*

Argos and Ygraine were 'discussing' yet again why she did not want to be called a Miss as Azk'a was busying himself looting the bodies of the fallen giants.  Azk'a and Ygraine turned to go, when Argos started speaking to someone, but there was no-one there.

Az'ka said Argos was imagining it, and walked off to the lake, but Ygraine changed her form and to her surprise, saw a woman to their side, veiled by various magics, but still there none the less.

She said she was out walking in the forest and had heard the mayhem and carnage (her words). She was not especially forthcoming about her presence or what she was doing there alone even though Argos tried to talk to her, and he did talk a lot. He even asked her to accompany us to a safer place, but she did not respond and eventually Ygraine got bored and talked Argos into returning to the lake with her. The woman was most strange and secretive, so watch out for her if you are in that area.

Oh, and it might be a co-incidence, but we came across some giant wasps in the forest and couldn't find their hive. We even fought some snakes and scorpions in the desert too, but they are not uncommon in all that sand, I suppose. Hmm.

Fixed Bugs / Hous names in Castle Mask Outskirts
« on: February 15, 2010, 04:36:38 pm »
I am not sure if this is a bug, but when you click on a door in the Outskirts of Castle Mask, it reports the door as being in Castle Raxswell.

The attached picture shows the dialogue with the door, and the smaller inset is my character and where the map says she is (which is correct).

Fixed Bugs / Game crash in final level - dungeon of the eye
« on: February 06, 2010, 04:42:27 am »
I am not sure if this is a graphics bug or not, but I was in a party of 7 people and when we just entered the final level of the dungeon of the eye, off the Path to the Ire Mountains, over half of the players crashed out of the game.

I would have thought it bad luck, but as we arrived at the exit to leave the final level, about half of us crashed again.

The rest of the levels were okay, so we thought it a little strange that so many crashed on the entrance/exit of the last level.

General Discussion / What I like about Layonara
« on: December 09, 2009, 02:00:07 pm »
Er, first of all, apologies to all of you folks out there who are working on the MMO and have put so much time and effort into it, but...

Duchess was on her way to Dalanther to meet up with some others, and tooko the boat to Hurm, with her horse, as usual.

When she disembarked, she could not ride her horse past the captain, so she dismounted and tried to walk the horse past.

No luck.

She tried a few times, and a few other options, when suddenly, her horse started to sway on her legs and looked really unwell (seen as a series of "talk" messages" from the horse).

Duchess gave the horse some water to try to settle her, but she quickly threw it all back up again. She tried various things until eventually her horse felt well enough to travel again.

And this is what I really like about Layonara and what makes it so special!!

Lord Cove had come on, seen me travelling, and took an impromptu decision to throw in some rp for me and my horse - fantastic (once I got over the shock of seeing the horse objecting to move and reacting tot he voyage).

I really, really enjoyed this diversion and even though I was going to meet some other people, it was great fun and a great change from normal events.

Thanks LC and kudos to you for the idea.

Rumour Has It / A death on the Road to Fort Llast
« on: September 30, 2009, 12:26:06 pm »
*A travelling merchant has just reported seeing a death on the road to Fort Llast.*

'Yeah, there was this elf killin' ravens an' takin' their feathers, when along came a woman dressed all in red, riding a horse.

'They started talkin' an' the elf on foot took out her bow an' threatened the one on horseback. She just seemed to laugh.

'They argued a while when two other people turned up, an' the man stepped in front of the woman on horseback, to defend her, but the elf pulled her bow tight an' took aim at the woman on horseback.

'She shouted that the woman on horseback was a dark elf an' that she should be arrested an' executed, but the two onlookers seemed as if they didn't understand, or maybe they weren't bothered.

'The elf on foot argued a while longer, then she let fly her arrow, which flew to the woman on horseback an' hit her high in the shoulder. The man on foot looked stunned, but the woman on the horse pulled out two swords and cut the other elf down where she stood. I tell you, I pulled into the background at that.

'The three people looked at the dead body and the woman on horseback said somethin' like "telt ye she wis aff her heid" an' then rode off. I didn't hang about, just in case.'

Rumour Has It / News from Krandor
« on: June 23, 2009, 07:44:05 pm »
Two cemetery caretakers may have been heard recently heard talking...

"Aye, ye missed it, sure enough. She was givin' out fine choices of meat, varieties of bread I've never tasted before, and the wines and ales? I had to go lie down for a while before I could continue workin', after tryin' them."
"And you say she was givin' this out for free?"
"Aye, that she was. I was event told she gave some money to the inn so they could hold a special fun day for the kids."
"Did she say who she was or why she was doin' this?"
"Not a word. She said she was doin' it for the town, to give back somethin' to make up for lost time, or somethin'. You'll know her when you see her though. She's very small, almost elven maybe, and always wears dark clothes and speaks in a funny accent; difficult to understand, but obviously a heart of gold."

Nothing left to add to the conversation, the two men return to tending the graveyard, making sure the bodies are still in their graves.

Rumour Has It / The Wedding Party - thanks for Pseudonym
« on: May 31, 2009, 10:25:39 am »
///OOC so everyone can understand me

This was a brilliant game run by Funnypsuedonym where a group had to clear out some spiders and go to a wedding as honoured guests. We were even offered 200,000 Trues if we came up to scratch (yes, I know what you are thinking. Too good to be true? Well. it turned out that way).

Why I am writing this is that a giant thank you to Pseud is due as what a laugh we all had in this game. I have never laughed so much in-game at the antics and comments from other players and others said they even had tears in their eyes from laughing. Why was it funny? Well after the intro, which in itself caused some laughs, we had to kill a bunch of spiders, then to attend a wedding - but the wedding had some strict codes we had to adhere to as individuals, and our compliance or lack would dictate the money we got.

I see you reading between the lines already: you got it. Some of the PCs played their characters and got it right (as per the instructions); other played their characters and got it wrong (as per the instructions). Oh how we laughed. We had to, sip wine and burp, introduce others and not yourself, always talk in the 3rd person, oh, and the final one - throw wedding cake at the bride and/or groom - but not at their faces.  What a laugh.

Absolutely brilliant Pseud and keep it up. Oh, and the other players without whom this may have been a disaster?  In no particular order...

General Discussion / Thannks to Funnypseudonym
« on: April 26, 2009, 03:37:41 pm »
Funnypseudonum ran a quest today which I would like to thank him for. There were well over a dozen PCs involved, from low to high levels, traps and encounters.

He outlined the problem (the Toranites had built a facility in which they had placed an 'artefact' that would pacify violent offenders, but they had lost contact with the warders inside the prison and needed a party to find out why), and ported us all to the DM area when we were ready to go.

It ran fluidly and without hitch and that was down to his control and handling of such a diverse party. It was fast, furious and challenging.

Thanks Funnypseudonym, and I promise I will stay away from trapped doors in the future.

Forum Discussion / layonara.com not fully functional using Google
« on: March 25, 2009, 06:47:47 am »
Not a problem that I am expecting or indeed wanting anyone to fix, but thought it worth mentioning in case others are having the same problem.

One of the problems I have had as an early adopter of Google's Chrome is that is doesn't always show or display items on web pages as the author intended them to be: such as the LORE link doesn't appear in Chrome.

The other problem I have just been struggling with is how to upload custom portraits, and after nearly an hour, remembered I was using Chrome, switched to Internet Explorer and bingo, there were the missing upload elements I knew had to be there.

So if you use Chrome and you even remotely can't do what you think you should be able to in Layonara, switch to IE or Firefox and you will be sorted.
