Rumour Has It / Taverns of the world
« on: October 17, 2015, 08:55:18 am »
"The Silver Buckle ! a fine place to start. " Arfur concludes as he props himself at the bar and makes ready for a suitable stay. "The sort of place my many talents might be appreciated." He apends a notice behind the bar. Naturally the artwork is of a suitable standard the inks and paper well chosen. He explains to the bar staff "I will make use of the time while I wait for my many business ventures to come good in the fullness of time...at least thats what I think he said....another ale please." The notice reads. In 1454 a drunken quartet was sent to work by an Uncle who did not understand them. These men promptly escaped from endlessly scribing scrolls to the Layonarian Ale-houses. Today - still wanted by the Uncle - they survive as soldiers of fortune. If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them... Maybe you can hire the D Team ! /currently Arfur Dumas only will make himself available Sunday evening GMT 10 pm onwards..if he likes your tale you may have his assistance.

Development Journals and Discussion / Brualot's Bemusements
« on: April 23, 2014, 03:01:30 pm »
The old elf, or man, added a log to the fire and slowly sat back down again. He was still at 184 Haven, the international headquarters of Interesting Investigations but times had changed. The staff had all gone now of course. He had to stoke his own fire, prepare the ink for his memoirs he had laid out on the investigation table. There were no clues there anymore. Things were quiet. Time to write. He had started out in Hlint one wizard in  a group of spell casters, not the Hlint of today where a few over dressed halberdiers strut about reminiscing about the great raid at Orc's drift, no Hlint back in the old days, Rhizome the druid, like some sort of town fixture would stand ttalking trees, encouraging adventurers to tred carefully. Ozy of course would be there as often as not soaking up stories, retelling them in his own inimitable style, one part truth, two parts heroic and three parts embellished.  With the housing market what it was adventurers rented at the Inn and when four spell casters, wizards and sorcerers got together seeking a uniform clothing the only available robes were coarse drab black necromancer robes, and they were rather long for the adventure. He never did find out why they were available for purchase but it was a start. There was no Academy of course in those days, four spell casters was a fine addition to any party but a little fragile on their own. They were a veritable powerhouse of spells - something new even in Hlint weak in defence and duration but a violent rage of deadly spells expelled in a few seconds. The Council was born, or would have been but for the intervention of a sending from.. Brualot pauses his writing and chuckles at the memory and adds the words...someone suitably displeased. It seemed a more important council existed already, and it would not prove useful to be confused. So a circle it was, a circle of deadly spell casters and their identifying robes or dresses as some Dwarves insisted on calling them! What did they know - all axe and beard.Times were tough, trues were hard earned, and investigating was still a thing of dreams then. First a solid reputation was needed and spell casters were in plentiful supply if not in such large circles. But there was vast numbers of undead hordes to be slain before the business of investigating could be finally established. He put aside his thoughts and his ink and took to the fire again with a glance at the door which was still firmly shut.

Rumour Has It / Clueless
« on: February 21, 2014, 11:40:33 am »
something to amuse while the server is still up to compliment the ongoing search for the toranite treasure. Brualot the Investigator pauses at the Silver Buckle to make a public announcement. Clueless! you may be but not for long for the cat is out the bag as a result of a theft of confidential material  I must open up my invrstigation to everyone. As it has become a real race against time. Let me explain. An art collector who was seeking the entire collection of the disturbed artist Overan xious, three items in total lost to history in the hands of his cult followers who were frankly , bad, has offered a reward. There are few clues to these works of arts current location. But I will give you them and encourage you to gather them before other evil hands can find them for their is a reward for the finding.Inbeed the Interesting, a prominent villan fled to Miritrx to hideout with associate bandits. He was always studying creatures around his vicinity and it is said he was killed near his lair and turned out of the abode to watch from outside the walls and look over the creatures he once studied. His head being the artists first work of art. He made a bust using parts of his very head.  The second work of art, an enchanted doll was taken by a warrior Ambi Tious of Leringard who was no stick in the mud and had loftier ambitions to rule over an army of undead. But in fact was never heard of again. Of the third piece a harp, prone to make terrible and haunting sound it is said It was taken by a Dwarf to Prantz. There it seems to have vanished but for one line in a song I have foundNorth of Rye he ran till headless, and in the dark he cried, dont let the black get me down.Little enough to go on of course, but the game is afoot. The patron seeking the goods has offered the winners the services of mercenaries subject to negotiation for their own ..tasks.To complicate things each art is said to point towards the hidden location of the now dead artists own stash of treasure!//have fun.. clocks ticking....this may be a good race between good and evil over the weekend, grab a group and get hunting!

Rumour Has It / Nature's travelling shop
« on: December 22, 2013, 03:35:33 pm »
Heard around Center.Foresta Fiveoaks, druid and shifter, reclusive, reticent, rude even, has taken off overseas. To a grove deep within some faraway forest. There they say she has promised to open her travelling shop for business. She is said to have collected a small ethically gathered collection of goods for sale to those closely aligned to nature who might best describe her present surrounds. She is to be found under a maple tree, where she says she can hear others whispering among the trees. Ozy, Brisbane even...druidic babbling no doubt but thats what people say.//10pm gmt will be at this location offering trade for like minded individuals , those with a knowledge of the surrounds are particularly welcome.

"Disregard forum time".........ha! this explains why no one was there, the game had already gone and been. Too good to be true ....well a certain drunken dwarf made the most of his time, but maybe left a few ale bottles scattered indiscreetly at Stormcrest.....catch the next one! Hope it went well.

General Discussion / October Quests
« on: October 25, 2013, 03:34:55 pm »
Good to see a nice number and variety of quests this month.A few returning players popping in too -hopefully to stay!A good month.

10
Aye well it began at the beginning as all things in their rightful place should.
He was the third son of the fifth best Dwarf hunter in all of Whithorn.
He left after the singing on Orc Mountain, talk of a broken heart.
Either way he sang of his heroic kin and drank a fill and was on his way.

Aye well he left to make a name they say, that one day kin would sing o him.
He did not carry a named axe but stead bore an orc blade, found in the wood.
He first won dagger, hammer and more against kobold the hated foe, so good.
And more, he took to chasing goblin running with the pack out of Hlint.

Aye well after that they say he took up with Harrigan a fey druid loike.
He like the third son he was fought in the shadow of a shape changer.
He took to fighting giants and they say he slew a chieftain in the Fog.
Armed with only a slain goblin handaxe he cut him down at the ankle.

Aye well sensibilities returned and he took up with kin again around Hlint.
He led them he has said against the reddest Goblins back to back they stood.
He stood where they stood till all the goblins were down and the kin standing.
A Screamer and an Axechucker far from home and likely a tale there I'm sure.

Quests Ideas and Discussion / Layo Life
« on: May 24, 2012, 01:02:42 pm »
Another experiment worthy of a go as the lower numbers permit it I think.

 A RL monthly task.

In week before a new month every player may submit a one short paragraph maximum plan for ONE pc for the next RL month (game year) and is expected to rp that as they go along.

The taskmaster at GM control sifts these ideas, rolls some dice (always the fun part) and feeds one paragraph results if he sees fit. He draws inspiration from the ideas to..

allocate games (and these need not be what player thought example below)
put news items and rumours in game
 put items on server

eg Colin the Corathite Cleric opts to convince his flock to gather arms and spend the trues he gives them to go over and burn down Loserville.

Taskmaster gm rolls a 1, and decides his plan goes badly...he releases some rumour accordingly and asks a gm to run a game involving foiling such a plan or perhaps in the aftermath of the failed attempt he runs a trial/hunt whatever suits 'tipping a hat to the original player idea -and thereby bringing player RP to life.

eg 2, Robin the ranger wants to hunt for the rare elk. Gm reports back he finds a trail in the wild wasteland....(then pops an elk on server in game in this area) for possible finding.

eg 3. Tommy the Toranite wants to form a troop to go help patrol Hilm. GM replies allowing player to rp this out accordingly but GM opts that he has no in game or quest follow up for it at this time.

Any Quests run would not be set for an individual - but merely run around an idea in some fashion that the player had mooted. ie it should not be essential they are there.

Rumour Has It / Interesting Investigations
« on: April 19, 2012, 12:44:51 pm »
This is an intro for a player led initiative. There is no reward here except RP and an excuse for putting a group together over this weekend for a run, and perhaps others if this works out.

This first event is aimed at around level 8-12 but whatever suits.

If anyone wishes to get involved covertly or cannot make the start rp session drop me a line - otherwise turn up at

Saturday 21 st 10 PM GMT 184 Haven Castle, the International Headquarters of Interesting Investigations.

It is my intention to have a PC deliver information and thereafter a group/groups can get involved right then or in their own time over the weekend.

Brualot took a deep breath and entered his office. It had been many years since things had been up and running. Tylsir looked after the place now and had been dutifully turning away a dwindling number of enquiries over that time. The office was spartan and without any mail. A book lay open on the desk from his last visit. There was a jacket across the table - it was not his.

 "Tylsir?"

The book keeper of a bard appeared with an explanation " A young woman called only this morning seeking your help....I told her you were not taking work..well you were away overseas... I thought. She forgot her jacket"

Brualot looked at the jacket and after a moments thought.

"This then would be the same woman that has recently been reported missing from the Inn as I was passing. I think we will need some help on this matter -yes advertise for stout fellows Tylsir. We have not a moment to lose."

Tylsir looked over wondering how a jacket could reveal so much. He asked "I thought you were done investigating?"

Jacket in hand Brualot turned back and asked." Are you still here?"

or a price in trues and services

(that four  heroic rapier wielding gentlemen of integrity and distinction might provide)

Inspiring and artistic offers likely to draw attention.

Andrew walks into the Wild Surge.

Landlord says, "oi, you're Bard!"

"Epic!" Andrew cringes, "Before I go get this - How many Druids does it take to change a lantern?"

Landlord says "Epic with dual class, thats too easy. None, Druids only change into Bears it's by far the best shape!"

"Well I am halfway out the door but tell me what do you get when you cross a Broken Hope Monk with a Druid mathematician ?"

Rumour Has It / Last Stranger standing
« on: May 26, 2011, 06:43:36 pm »
//An ongoing game (no gm required) while the server is up. a chance to rp across the servers get in groups and do team like questing adventuring things.

Here Ye, Here ye, The last of the Soeakoans clan has fallen in the Blackwood forest on Corsain and lies dying. In a meeting of deals, double deals and court intrigue the last of his line fell when all gathered and many more lying in hiding fell upon each other. A dynasty of warriors ended that day in the forest.

Thier 40 pages of family honours gained in service of many causes was torn asunder on the field of negotiations. 40 pages torn from the dead by those who survived and fled from the field in pursuit of each other.

With his dying breath Noomur Soeakoan promised the legacy of his clan to the faction that brought back to his servants (gm mix) the most honour pages from the family book.

No easy task for such may be scattered across the islands and in the hands of desperate people.

 Game on....

Just for Fun / Refugees from Sundance
« on: January 30, 2011, 12:29:28 pm »
//blatently stolen but nonetheless a little atmosphere from an Ilsarian on the retreat from Sundance.

 Bent double, refugees of Sundance,
Knock-kneed, coughing like hags, we cursed through forest,
Till on the following Drachs we turned our lance
And towards our distant Hilm hoped to rest.

Men marched asleep. Many had lost their boots
But limped on, blood-shod. All went lame; all blind;
Drunk with fatigue; deaf even to the woots
Of mired, outstripped  Green Cult that chased behind.
Drach! Drach! Quick, boys! -- An ecstasy of fumbling,
Casting the warding spells just in time;
But someone still was yelling out and stumbling,
And flound'ring like a man in fire or lime .

Dim, through the misty trees and thick green acid,
As under a green sea, I saw him drowning.
In all my dreams, before me helpless Sid,
He plunges at me, guttering, choking, screaming.

If in some smothering dreams you too could pace
Behind the wagon that we flung him in,
And watch the white eyes writhing in his face,
His hanging face, free of evil, sick of sin;

If you could hear, at every jolt, the pain
Come gargling from the froth-corrupted lungs,
Obscene and corrupt, like the green Cult stain
Of vile, incurable sores on innocent tongues,

My friend, you would not tell with such high sin
To recruits ardent for some desperate glory,
The old Lie; follow me and we will win
We will win, on to the end of this story

Rumour Has It / Sinister Forest
« on: November 17, 2010, 02:30:03 am »
A long standing effort to root out vampire activity in the Sinister Forest was brought to a tooth this month when groups of slayers over a hundred in number deployed to the forest in small groups. They began a wide sweep for vampires, uncovering over a dozen nests which left the master vampire with nowhere to hide. One searching group uncovered his temporary hiding place, and without his host of protectors he proved no match for their Dwarven axes, glib Bardish tongues, goblin forked tongues and the fine point of expert sword wielders.

There was concern however that necromancy had saved the creature from final demise but it is hoped there will be a relative peace and that nearby disturbances in the Al'Noth which have been dealt with by Spellswords out of Spellgard will also come to an end.

Rumours from the Toranites of the return of a Demi Lich to the area were played down by officials.

Rumour Has It / Katherian
« on: October 28, 2010, 08:36:31 am »
News of the downfall of a minor crime family the Gonnsowres is quickly followed by news of the escape of some that family to parts new to fight another day. In their wake their involvment in various activities is uncovered and other gangs move in to take over theire work. At least one gang member was downed by mercenaries out hunting trolls. A stolen cache of gold was handed back to the authorities by these same mercenaries.

Elsewhere around town one or two static quests remain in game (while the server is up) for the enterprising group.

Any finds to Mixafix for RP opportunities.
