Ask A Gamemaster / Grannoch v. Sulterio?
« on: June 09, 2008, 08:33:10 am »
Hi, team!

In looking over the deity relationships for my new cleric of Grannoch, I noticed that Sulterio appears on both the neutral and unfriendly lists of her diety write-up on LORE.  I believe the chart shows Sulterio neutral to Grannoch and Grannoch unfriendly to Sulterio but I'm not sure I'm reading it in the right direction.  Can someone let me know for sure which status to go by, in case I encounter one of our new duerger PC's in game?

 Thanks!

General Discussion / Lag and unwitting drag?
« on: June 03, 2008, 06:55:51 am »
I wanted to apologize (profusely!) to the community for dragging a skunk from the Dapplegreen path into Stormcrest. I was kindly informed in a tell several minutes afterwards that this rabid animal caused the paperboy to suffer a gruesome death. I don't know if he'll respawn before a server reset, so if anyone misses out on a copy of the Dragon's Whisper, now you know who's to blame.

On my computer screen, I never left the Dapplegreen path, never saw a skunk (much less saw it follow me) and never heard any battle music as I went through Stormcrest, where I even paused for a moment because there were folks near the path. It was unusually busy last evening (EDT) and I'm wondering if lag could have been the reason both for me attracting the skunk's attention and also for never seeing it on my screen?

In any case, I promise to take the ship to Fort Vehl from now on, whether it's a busy night or not.  My mortified Aeridinite cleric won't be able to look that poor paperboy in the face ever again.

Trade and Market Hall / A Beryl-Blessed Ring
« on: June 25, 2007, 11:18:26 am »
*This notice is posted about knee-high.*

A novice ring-maker am I, Nisbet Narine, gnome cleric of Beryl. But yesterday, the hand of the Deep Mother reached up to guide my own, and the resulting ring has a lustrous supernatural glow, beyond the usual gleam of copper and amethyst. I ask no money for this creation, since it was not born of any skill or practice on my part. If any adventurer wishes to have it, you have only to bring me a receipt for trues or goods that you have donated to the Deep Mother's temple to support the rebuilding of Stone, and Beryl's Blessing will be yours.

Wild Surge Inn / A Card Party to Raise Funds For Stone
« on: May 15, 2007, 10:16:57 am »
*This notice is posted about knee-high in bright glittery ink.*

Hello, hello, to all you dedicated card-players out there!  Would you like to have a tournament with other players and see who the best Creature-slinger is in all the land?

A Creatures Card Party Will be Held on Satari, Febra 14, 1417 to raise funds for the rebuilding of Stone!

Wouldn't it be nice to have some refreshments served right in the card room so you don't even have to go upstairs when you get hungry and thirsty after getting scorched by Mr. Wyatt's dragon?  Your kind donation of 100 trues or more will get you unlimited food and drink served by a friendly half-orc, as well as a ticket for exciting door prizes!

In honor of Her Perfection, a pie will be awarded to the player who wears the most glittery and multi-colored card-playing outfit!

Now, what about you novices who have never visited the card room, or maybe you tried to play Creatures and couldn't figure out how to win?  Your donation will get you a copy of Nisbet's Tips for Novices, a Magic Generator card and a lucky clover for the gentlemen or lucky tulip for the ladies.  What a deal!

All yours for a charitiable donation of 100 trues or more!  (You never know, a bigger donation might bring you more luck from Beryl!)

//This event will be held May 27 in the card room at Hlint or Vehl (if it has been moved by then) from 2 to 4 pm EDT.  Any questions can be directed to Nisbet Narine.

General Discussion / An Etiquette Manual for Junior Adventurers?
« on: March 21, 2007, 12:11:35 pm »
Hi, all!

In my few months on Layonara, I have found many valuable pieces of advice on what I'll call 'good player etiquette' buried inside forum threads that are on other topics entirely. For example, I just learned this morning that crafting levels are meant by the game designers not to be rushed through, in a thread entitled "Resting in Haven." This is information I wish I had known at the very start of my time here, as I now worry that my PC showed 'bad taste' in spending so much time doing her very-enjoyable potion making.

Would anyone mind if I sorted through the forums over the next few days and tried to put together the various words of advice on good player etiquette given by dms and designers with the goal of producing a small 'etiquette manual'  for new players?  I would be very happy to post my gleanings in this thread first, to gather comments and/or additional input, and then make a small, quickly-viewed document that new players could be pointed to, perhaps at the end of their approval process.

Please note: this is not meant in any way to be a guide to the lands, resources or quests of Layonara, just an introduction to the general expectations that the game designers and gms of this server have for 'good behavior' on the part of players.  My hope is that some of the mishaps and mistakes made by us novices could be avoided if we knew more about the community's unwritten traditions.  And if such a thing already exists and I have just not found it, please forgive me (and point me in the right direction).

Introduce Yourself / A Yap from Kirbiana
« on: March 12, 2007, 11:26:42 am »
Hi, guys!

Layo is my first and only online world, and I have found it to be a delightful way to spend the cold North American winter.  My only character so far is Mirrim Cade.   I am very new to all forms of gaming and RP, which is why I occasionally have 'running around like a decapitated chicken' moments in game.

When not teaching or playing Layo, I am usually doing something with my dogs.  I have two Shelties and a Border Collie, and we compete in local obedience, agility and herding trials.  The dogs are usually romping around as my partner and I play in Layo, and those who travel with us in game have come to expect occasional dog-related interruptions.
