Roleplaying / rp or power gaming ?

I just reread http://forums.layonara.com/nwn-ideas-suggestions-requests/239242-weapon-specialization-weapon-master.html
And i couldn't help but again notice something .

When talking about Weapon Master , each time people will throw in that it's useless to take more then 7 levels in it for the bonus you will get after 7 levels is not worth it .

It always gives me an strange feeling , because to me only taking the 7 levels to gain the extras and then leave the class seems on the border of power gaming .

A character that trains to become one with its weapon , suddenly giving up a part off that training to learn new things somehow doesn't seems right to me .

Then again , that is just my personal opinion so i was wondering what others think off it .

Rumour Has It / Rumors spread of a death

In Inn's and craft halls rumors start to spread of the loss of life off one of the best crafters . It is said that one that was faithful to his idea of his believe has fallen protecting others .

General Discussion / multi classing question

From the moment i started playing here , one thing always made me wonder .

I see many people multi classing their chars , but when i try to understand what is happening in these cases i come to the conclusion that it is a weird thing .

I'm not saying that multitasking ( as i figure it is ) is uncommon / unheard off , but the multi classing only seems to have blessings and not the expected drawbacks .

To explain a bit how I think about it i'll give an example .

A weapon master multi classing to something else to me seems weird for the following reason : weapon masters spend their life to completely master their weapon off choice . The way i see it , they need their training to keep at the level they are or even get better . Training in other things in my mind would mean that they degrade over time and lose the fluent moves they once must have had .
Training in stealth , magic or other things takes full focus , so would interfere with their already trained skills .

This goes for other classes too ( wizard is one off those that comes to mind ) and in my mind the only classes that should be able to freely multiclass are those to whom their abilities come natural  , thinking off sorcerers and bards and clerics here .

Upgrading from one class to another of course is logical , so not talking about bards that upgrade to skald , or fighters that upgrade to weapon master or similar class changes but purely about a class that gets changed to a completely other class .

An athlete that diminishes his training effort can not defend his/her place as best in his/her sport .

So why should / would a character stay at the strength off his / her last gained level if they start to focus on other skills ?

I'm not sure if it is possible , but i would suspect that they get some kind off penalty in their original class , for diminishing their training efforts and the fact they focus on other things .

Wondering how others see / think about this .

Trade and Market Hall / Question / confirmation wanted

* an old man travels over the world , visiting craft halls , market halls and places known for trading goods . Every place he visited , he asks the same questions and tacks up the same note . *

On my travels i heard rumors that my old friend and number one challenger in making weapons and smelting ores , has left this realm to sit at the side off his God .
The man i am talking about is Goldwin Blacknight .

I am trying to find out if these rumors are true and am seeking others that are capable to smelt the rarest metals and produce weapons made out off them .

I am doing this because i feel my end is near and with everything pointing to a war , i am struggling with a simple question .

Are there others that can forge weapons that might be needed in an upcoming war , so i can continue my life off danger as i always have ?

Or should i , to possibly help those i trust / support , change my ways and seek out safer roads to travel so i still will be able to make / produce the weapons they might need ?

Any light any one can shine on this would be greatly appreciated .

Ask A Gamemaster / Question about characters / lvl spread

Since ( if things go wrong ) I'm about to make a new character , i want to know what are approved characters .

Meaning : what level splits are allowed and which aren't ?

For example : 5 barbarian / 5 fighter / 7 weaponmaster , 7 fighter / 7 weaponmaster / 6 assasin , 5 rogue / 5 skald / 7 weaponmaster , 5 fighter / 5 mage / 10 spellsword .

What is and what isn't allowed ? ( not just these examples that i pulled out off thin air not even knowing if they can be made , but character builds that are in no way allowed )

Is switching between prestige classes allowed ? ( if properly RP'd of-course )

Fixed Bugs / Rift question / possible bug

In the upper lvl's off the Rift , there are " drow warriors " that are easily dispatch with a good fighter .
Deeper into the Rift you meet " drow warriors of the Rift " that are much harder to overcome .
When you pass those and the golems guarding the cobalt , you meet other drow called " drow warriors " ( they guard the adamantium ) but these are just as tough as the ones called " drow warriors of the Rift " .

Do they have a wrong name ? or are these too strong for the place they are in ?

I know we are not supposed to read the floating texts , but preparing for the weaker drow that they seem to be can prove deadly to characters that travel there as it is now .

General Discussion / Question about the maintenance

I was wondering if anything has been changed during the recent maintenance .

Asking because all off a sudden i lag more then i can walk while nothing has changed on my computer and i was running smoothly before the maintenance .

The lag occurs on both west and central server .

If this sounds like a problem with my comp , then please try to help out by suggesting what i can do to get rid off the lag .

Requesting to lower the demands for *drum roll* the feat .......

Devastating critical ( yup , you all knew when reading the first few words :D )

Requesting to lower the strength needed to take this feat on a few grounds :

The strength as it is required now means that only characters that get strength bonuses at creation or characters that are made with such high strength that they could get to it around level 30 , places it outside most peoples grasp .

Spells that kill are allowed , as are attacks that make creatures sway on their feet making them helpless .

With the discussion about poison and lengthen the duration of it , it was said by more then one that the saving-throws at higher level are high enough to withstand most things so this also should count for " devastating critical " and its saves against it .

I want to suggest that taking the feat will require 10 + levels of Weapon Master ( was thinking about 13 since that is the last level that a weapon-master gets a feat  ) to control the amount off characters that could take it .
Requesting this because the description of " Epic Weapon master " states that the weapon-master will get the ability to deal - devastating damage - at higher levels. ( description can be found on LORE )
And to make the weapon-master a really unique character in the end .

I was wondering what will happen to characters that reach the magical lvl 40 .

Since the only characters i saw that high were GM avatars , i was wondering if to them the same things apply as to chaotic evil chars .

In another thread i understood that the game won't be adjusted to that high lvl because others can not fight what is needed to be placed to keep characters of this high lvl " on their toes " when adventuring .

*rumors start to surface in inn's across Mistone and Dregar about a heavy build man , relentlessly killing everything that tries to keep him from materials which he is seemingly gathering constantly . It occurs to people that this will go on for about three weeks , then it becomes calm ...only to starts again about a week later . No one has ever seen this figure eat or drink and he doesn't stop to talk to anyone *

Her body is moved to our guildhall and prepared for her last journey .

Feel free to contact any member off the Guild to visit and say goodbye .

I myself will not be seen much in our hall , i will concentrate on aiding the rebuilding off Leringard and Mariners .

To those responsible :

If i catch you killing the cows and chickens in my home-town , I'll personally bring you to trial and ask for the highest possible sentence .

You are killing off means that supply food and milk to the community and i see that as a murder attempt .

If i catch you and you fight being brought to justice , then i will use force .

Fixed Bugs / Crafting question/ possible bug ?

Having had a string of two's , three's and four's .....made me wonder ...
( no , not if my dice was stolen and replaced by a D4 ;) )

If 20 on a D20 = 100%...
Then 10% = 2 ...right ?

Then 80% = 2 x 8 = 16 .....so a 4 should be enough ...right ?

I kept noticing however that i failed with a 4 ....on 80% :(

Is that a bug ?

Requesting for one off our members to be made able to delete non-used posts from our guild-page .

Things that would be easier to find with some posts removed would be really nice and might help getting some room .

If this is not possible , could the moderators we have now lock threads that we no longer need and with that give a sign that they can be removed ?

( we can lock threads , but cant remove them ourselves right now )

Ask A Gamemaster / Question on Ki damage

I haven't been using Ki attack in a while but since every one keeps telling people that it is one of the " usable"  feats for WM characters , i tried it again .

My question is : is Ki damage modified ?

Asking because every time i have hit a target with it ( out off the 90 times i used it ) the damage i do is no higher then my normal attack damage , not with a normal hit nor with a critical hit .

Barion has a base strength off 24 and with items he has 35 .
He has 18 Ki attacks / day .
He has " critical Ki " which is an automatic feat .
He is an 18th lvl WM / 10th lvl Fighter .
His critical damage on dark elves in The Rift is about 74 with AND without Ki .
His critical damage with "improved power attack " is higher then that .
