Not sure just how long.  Could be a week, could be a month, or it could be forever.  I'm not one for long winded goodbyes.  I do want to say my thanks to the community before I go.

To the team: thank you for all the hard work you've all put into creating and maintaining this server.  It's been my favorite place to role-play out of all the on-line games I've played.  I thought nothing could beat a MUD when it came to on-line role-playing.  Keep up the great work!

The the players: thank you for taking what the team made and turning it into one amazing place to role-play.  You all have given me a lot of great memories that I will never forget.  When I'm old and in my rocker; when my grandkids ask what role-playing is I'll be sure to tell them stories that I got to experience here.

It's been fun everyone!

You must be in a timezone that did not switch in the USA or Canada. For those of us that did switch the clocks are correct.

At least for PDT.  I'm in PDT, and it's currently 10:17pm.  Clock says 11:17pm.

« on: March 15, 2007, 09:09:58 pm »
Someone asked me if I was going to do one of these.  I told this person that I probably wouldn't.  Well I changed my mind.  Happy? :)  Now you have to do yours. ;)

Hhmmm.. so, how do I want to do this?  Oh!  A questionnaire will do nicely.

Name?  Michael
Gender?  Male

Race?  70% Nez Pierce (Native American), 30% Russian
Height?  5'9"

College degree, and what type of work do you do?

I hold a Bachelor degree in Electronics Engineering, though I don't work in my field.  I work for the Multnomah County District Attorney's Office.  I've been employed here for the past 12 years now.  I started off as a legal coder and worked my way up to the head of a project team (In other words; I'm someones boss).

Married, or have any kids?  Nope, I'm single without kids that I know of.
Smoker?  Not anymore.  I quit 7 years ago.
Have you always played video games?  If so, how long?

Growing up I was, what I call, a closet gamer.  I use to be embarrassed to let my family and friends know that I played video games.   I didn't own any consoles or computers.  I did have a friend in high school that owned a NES and an Amiga 500.  I use to goto his house all the time to game with him.  He introuced me to the wonderful world of MUDs.  I really didn't get into gaming until I hit 24 when I bought my first PC - So that's what? 7 years?.  Since then I've owned a SNES, Playstation, Saturn,  Genesis with CD add-on, Game Cube, DS, Playstation 2, along with different various PCs built for gaming.  I currently own a DS, Game Cube, and an outdated PC.

What are a few of your favorite games?

Alpha Centauri is my favorite game.  I enjoy playing strategy games.  Turn-based ones.  Tetris ranks right up there as well.  Puzzle games are probably my next favorite type of games.  I'm not much of a RPG fan.  I do like the Wizardry series, Dragon Quest series, Shin Megami Tensei seires (along with all of the spin-offs), and Fallout series just to name a few.

How did you discover Layonara?

Well, I use to be a MUD gamer.  I learned how to role-play on them.  The last MUD I was on closed down.  I went 4-5 months without being able to role-play.. so one day I asked a buddy of mine if he knew of any good role-playing MMOs.  He just laughed at me and gave me his NWN CDs.  I discovered Layonara right away, but was really reluctant to try the server out at first.  After reading all the rules I didn't think I would enjoy this server so much.   I thought that so many rules put too many limitations on role-playing.  So, I spent a few months trying various PW out there.  None of them matched the quality of role-play I was use to from playing my last MUD.  I was just about to give up and look for another MUD to play when I remembered that Layonara was suppose to be one of the better RPPWs.  So, I submitted a PC and started playing.  I have to be honest here;  I didn't like the server at first.  I was one of those unlucky people that didn't get any help when I first started.  I couldn't find anyone to role-play with either.  My earily days here were spent sitting around alone at the benches at Hlint.  I'd watch people run by, and by the time I'd get something typed out they'd be long gone.  Or there would be people gathered at the benches and I would try and walk up to them to get some role-playing going and I would just be ignored.  I almost left the server a month after joining.

You said that you were just about to leave the server.  What changed your mind then?

I met a few people in-game with my 3rd PC the day I created her that I was actually able to role-play with.  Before I made this PC I didn't spend much time playing.  When I first started here I played a lot, but sitting alone without anyone to role-play with gets boring really fast.  Over the course of my first month my play-time went down to maybe 20 minutes a day.  Just because I'd get bored of sitting alone.  The day I created my 3rd PC was a Friday, and I actually sat here for a good 6 hours playing that night.  Ever since then I've been hooked.  I went though a major down-time with my 3rd PC a month after I made her.  It took me around 4 months to get her from level 4 to 5.  And, once again I wasn't having much luck finding anyone to role-play with since those people I met stopped playing.

How long have you been here at Layonara?

Just about 2 years now.  I did take a break for a few months due to work and some issues I had going on.  Lately I haven't been playing too much though.  Not because I don't have any time to (well I really don't have much time to play, but I can play a hour or two a day on week-days and my week-ends are almost always free).  Lately I've found myself in the same rut I was in before.  No body to role-play with.  My last few weeks were spent just sitting around alone with just my PC.  And now that the starting location has changed to Port Hempstead/Vehl I have no where to go IC anymore just to role-play.  So I've lost some interest in playing.  I'm too attached to my PC to leave though. :)

Anything else that you would like to add?

Hmmm... nope, not that I can think of.  I will answer any question that someone might have though.

What about a picture?

Haha!!  No, I'm camera shy.  My last picture I had taken of me was 3 years ago for my drivers license. :P  My last real was is around 10 years old.

General Discussion / On races and their alignment.
« on: March 06, 2007, 10:22:22 am »
I was reading though someones character submission, and they want to play a race that as alignment restrictions.  Now this PC wasn't raised by his race, so his PC may have no concept of what his race is really like growing up, which will lead this PC to view life differently.  Well all know that people are a product of their environment, and lets say an Orc was raised by a Dwarven community (LOL) would this Orc really grow up like one that was raised in a tribe?

Now I'm all for alignment restrictions, but there has to be some type of leway for creativity.

General Discussion / Why do Druids get so little respect?
« on: February 20, 2007, 05:38:49 pm »
In my year and a half of playing one I have not seen another class get as little respect as a Druid does.  Almost half of my RP with her comes from people going out of their way to make her angry.  And let me tell you that this gets old fast.  It's really no fun to have to RP negative things all the time.  When it comes to battle tactics Druids are alway left out of the planning, from what I've seen.  When I think that any party would like to have us around.  There is no other class that has as much verity as the Druid class does.  We can serve as the main healer (minus res), scout, tank, and supporter.  I know some of it comes from RP, but at times it seems like people break their alignment just to annoy us.

Trade and Market Hall / A note posted on the Orc Basher's door in Hlint
« on: January 21, 2007, 05:25:34 pm »
Dear Cole or Quantum - or anyone else that may be reading this.

I'm ready to buy the armor that we talked about long ago.  I have had a change of mind though and would like something a bit heavier along with a larger shield.  Made from Iron if possible.  I no longer want a Warhammer or a Longbow.  Please leave me a message at the Wild Surge Inn with a time and day that we can meet.

Thanks,
-Kaeso

Trade and Market Hall / A Sea Elf's goods
« on: December 10, 2006, 10:28:29 pm »
I'm posting this for a friend of mine since she can't read or write in Common.  The following items she has for sale along with the prices she's asking.

1 Wolf Leather Armor - 3000 true. // Lvl 8 req.
1 Wolf Hide Armor - 3500 True. // Lvl 9 req.
1 Cougar Leather Armor - 2000 true. // Lvl 5 I think
2 Jaguar Leather Armor - 3500 true each. // Lvl..I dunno..below 8...lol
1 Lion Leather Armor - 4000 True. // Lvl 10 req.

She's also looking for someone that can suppy her with Fire Agate Dusts.

If you're interested in any of these items then please seek her out around Hlint.  She tend to spend all her time in the Crafthall or at the Temple.  This is where I'd tell you her name, but I can't.  I can't pronounce it let alone write it, I just call her Blue.  She's a Sea Elf.  She should not be too hard to find.  Just look for a blue skinned Elf with webbed feet.

// If you have any questions about these items send KageKeeper a PM on these boards, or Enyaill a tell in-game.

General Discussion / Question on luring monster
« on: December 09, 2006, 06:17:00 pm »
Has the rules changed for luring?  The last few weeks I've heard of a lot of people using this tactic to take down spawns that are much harder then what their PCs can normally handle.

General Discussion / It feels like more then a few months have passed
« on: October 21, 2006, 03:51:42 pm »
It's been a few months, hasn't it?  Since I've last played?  Heh, I can't even remember.  It feels like years though.  I've missed playing here, and hopefully I'll be able to start again some time this next week. :D

« on: March 14, 2006, 04:02:27 pm »
When I first got this belt it said it had a level 16 requirement.  Yesterday that requirement was gone, and against my better judgement I equiped it on my character. :P  Now I can't login due to having an illegal item equiped.  Awhile back I saw a post that had a address for a server that we could log into and uneqiped the illegal items.  Is that server still around?

General Discussion / Regarding todays quest
« on: March 12, 2006, 09:52:35 pm »
Can someone help me fill in the lag-holes? :)

Even though I attended the quest I only got around third of what was going on because of the lag.

At the start the Lady came, or so someone told me, and said something to send all of us to some bridges.  What did she say that made 40+ people all head off in one direction?  Because of the lag and not understanding why my character was were she was really ruined the quest for me.  I couldn't find a motive for her to follow along, and she's not the type to blindly follow the leader. :)

Once we got to the bridges I lagged really bad.  When I finally got to the final bridge my client locked up for like five minutes at a time until we went to the Planes Server.  From what someone told me a Shadow gave Rhizome something and then we climbed a tree to some shrine.  Then at the shrine something happened and a portal opened.  Heh.. I missed all the dialoag at this part.

After we logged into the planes to the Planes Server I ended up relogging because no ones models were displaying.  That helped lower my lag a lot, but I still missed a few bits of the story here and there.  I was able to piece parts of the story together from what happened at the final part of the quest but wasn't really able to participate...

So, does anyone feel like filling in these holes for me?  Or did anyone log the chat form the quest and willing to share it?

Wild Surge Inn / A note written in Elven
« on: February 28, 2006, 02:19:35 pm »
Kutya'I walks into the inn and looks around nervously.  She spots the board where people post messages and in a quicked pace she walks to it.  She reaches into her pack and pulls out a pre-written note then pins it to the board.  She then just as quickly leaves the inn.  The note reads as following.*

An anira tyalael el mefala.  E laam amirilan aey wdw ane anira filnyvamla el anira ilmail nyccaw Anira Vefcel Amillaanala.  Oemafilccelv aniras omms fairelw anira irecc ela lean elca il vmailan welamalatyanyan oem lilanyma, ean'la alclae nyeammwca. *The note is unsigned.*

//Translated for those people that can read Elven.

To the person in dark robes.  I saw what you did to the badgers in the area called The Goblin Wastes.  Fireballing them from behind the hill is not only a great disrespect for nature, it's also cowardly.  Do not let me catch you doing this again, or your body will be the one feeding the soil and maggots.

General Discussion / This truly is the best RP-based server for NWN
« on: November 06, 2005, 08:28:00 pm »
And I can honesltly say that now.  In the past few months I've spent a lot of time trying out other RP servers and Layonara is with out a doubt, no questions asked, the best RP server out there.  I just got done playing on another RP-server that came highly recommended and I'm sitting here asking myself how they can consider themselves RP-based.  Not a single person there is there to RP.  Not even the DMs.

Anyways.  I just wanted to say thanks to the DMs, GMs, and of course the players.  Thanks for making this server what it is.  My long search to find a server to call home is finally over. :)

Development Journals and Discussion / Thoughts of a Nameless Druid
« on: October 20, 2005, 09:59:00 pm »
Since my character has no need to keep a journal I thought I'd write her thoughts here.

*While in Hlint she sits down under a tree and closes her eyes.  While in a meditated state she sees past events of her life after she came to this land called Mistone*

So much has happened since I've come to this town. I don't even feel like I'm the same person I was before I left my forest.  Sometimes I long for that life I left behind.  It seems so simple compared to the new life I have here.  Though I don't have any regrets in coming here, I can't help but wonder if it was the right decision; no I know it was the right one.  Something threatens to enslave this very world and I need to make sure that this doesn't happen.  I wish I could find Ly'Sylria.  I miss talking with her.  It's funny, I came here with the intent to do what I needed to do and not form any bonds with anyone, but she's different.  From the moment I saw her standing before me her brow bleeding I knew that we were meant to be friends.  She's so much like me, and to be honest it scared me at first.  I never once thought I'd form a bond with someone as fast as I did with her.  So quickly it happened that to this day I still feel a bit confused about it.  It's been so long though since I last saw her.  If I didn't receive that vision of her a few nights back I would be really worried for her.  I know our paths will cross again, so that brings me comfort.  Now that I think about it, it's been awhile since I've last seen Nith'wiel also.  I hope he's safe.

I can't believe what just happned.  Here I was walking through the forest these Humans have named The Highforest when I saw a band of Goblins!  Before I could ask them why they've come here one of them shot some wood at me!  I couldn't beleive this.  Here I am unarmed like my, doctrine dictates, and one of them still saw me as a threat.  I helped a Boar that was fighting them when I saw a band of people gathered in hiding.  So I do what any good protector of a forest would do and go up and ask them why they've brought Goblins to the forest.  I feel so foolish for not seeing a hole in the ground that was in my path...I fell into this hole before I even got the chance to ask them.  I literary fell on top of a group of adventures.  Confused I asked them why they were there, but in my confusion I didn't hear their replies.  All I know is they were seeking something.  All I knew is I had to get out of this cave.  So not having much of a choice I went along with them.  I think those Goblins I saw came up into the forest from the hole that was in the ground, because these caves were filled with them.  We had to fight our way past at least forty before we found a good place to rest.  In our fight a Human that was helping me get out fell.  I felt so sorry for him.  He had given his life to help protect me and his friends.  I did something that goes against my doctrine and asked mother to bring him back.  She must have felt the same way because not one second after my prayer left my lips his eyes opened
((DM rolling a 98/100 :) to see if her prayer was answered)).  All I could do was smile.  I felt happy that I was able to help this Human that gave his life for us, but I also felt shame.  For a third time I've broke a vow...

*she snaps awake and sees a guard standing over her.  He says to her, "Miss we can't have people sleeping in town.  If you need a room you'll find one in the Inn for a descent price."  She stands up and tells him that she's sorry.  Then she turns around and walks away*
