Ask A Gamemaster / Card Bag Removal
« on: September 08, 2022, 02:38:09 am »
I foolishly started playing at the Leringard Card Emporium and got stuck with a card bag that is undroppable. Any chance of someone removing this from Belgar's inventory, please? Or could it be added to the list of 'noneed' items? Any help appreciated.

Regards,
Eltalstro

Alpoah Kutiz’Arminhaff was a hefty dwarven girl who lived with her father, on a farm, just outside the village of Center. She was the size of the biggest of the local lads and stood a full five feet tall when she was 25. Alpoah’s mother had died giving birth to her.
We girls didn’t care for Alpoah much; she looked rough and unkempt even for a dwarf.  We made fun of her bulky frame and the stringy ribbons that tied back her wild, red hair. She helped her father milk the cows in the mornings and she’d sometimes have milk stains on her dress and cow poo on her shoes. A few times, we ran along behind her, holding our noses and calling her ‘Alpoah Smellpoah’, until she turned red in the face and chased after us, roaring in dwarven.
Her father mixed mostly with dwarves and spoke only dwarven to her on the farm, which is where she spent most of her time. As far as we knew, she never had any book learning. She spoke little of the common tongue, and what few phrases she could speak, sounded brutish and slow-witted. Still, she knew enough to know when she was being teased.
Alpoah would wrestle and fight like a boy. She once smashed a ball so hard that it flew away, high out of the village, killing a wandering goblin stone dead. Sometimes we’d see her splitting wood in her front yard with heavy, singular strokes of the axe. 'That dwarven girl is, no lady’ the local housewives gossipped.
Because Alpoah was so rough, she took some terrible tumbles. Once, she got in a fight with Gramnar Ironfist. They rolled over and over on the road until Tagnar came across and broke it up. Alpoah was a mess. She was bruised and her nose was bleeding. Her dress was dirty and torn. She didn’t cry, though. She never did. Alpoah just stuck her chin out and looked fiercely at Gramnar, as if she’d like to fight him again.
We always egged her on to have fights for the sport of it. ‘That Alpoah is as tough as old boots,’ sniffed my friend Mary. But one day, news spread around like wildfire. Alpoah’s father had been crushed by a tree they were felling. He was dead.
We all felt awful, and Mary cried. We worked together to make Alpoah a sympathy card that we presented to her after her father’s burial. ‘No cry for Alpoah!’ she said rudely and fiercely, stuffing the card into her pocket.
The farm was sold, and Alpoah was to go and live with her uncle. Of course, his wife didn't take well to her at all, and Alpoah ended up running away in her late-twenties. She was sometimes spotted stalking the foothills and lake edges alone. It’s said she occasionally consorted with roving bandits and mercenaries.
Whatever the case, Alpoah Kutiz’Arminhaaf hadn’t been seen for many a winter. It was assumed she’d either met her match out in the brutal wilderness or had simply moved on. Then, one day, there she was.

Ask A Gamemaster / Skill Points Problem
« on: December 20, 2020, 05:25:11 am »
Hi,

Sorry for the constant queries. I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this. I'm having an issue with the skill points of my new PC. At level 6, after allocating all of the skill points I'm using, I'm coming up with 6 remaining instead of 8 which is what both the CBC spreadsheet and my own math say should remain. A Barbarian 2, Fighter 4  with 14 intelligence, that started on Barbarian, should have 24 at first level + 16 for 4 levels of fighter, + 6 for an additional level of Barbarian which equals 46. At Level 6 I've allocated 9 intimidate, 9 listen, 9 taunt, 9 discipline, and 2 lore which equals 38. This equates to a difference of 8 (the number of points that should be remaining). I first checked if I had accidentally allocated 2 points to a cross-class skill. I suspected Lore, but this is a class skill for both classes. I can't see what else could have gone wrong. All of the class skills were on 4 at character creation except lore which was on 2. I thought that the only skill I increased during levels 2-5 was discipline, but I must have thought wrong. Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers,
Eltalstro

Ask A Gamemaster / Battlerage
« on: December 07, 2020, 08:37:21 pm »
Hi,

I'm starting to plan another character. I have a question about battlerage. In the Wiki it states that it, "Does not stack with Barbarian Rage even though they are essentially identical in function." My question is, does battle rage trigger terrifying rage? Or is this limited to barbarian rage only? Any advice, as always, would be greatly appreciated.

Edit: Also, with a prestige class, like Battlerager, that has 5 levels, must all five levels be taken pre epic levels?

Kind regards,
Eltalstro

Hi,

After a few levels now, I've discovered Greater Weapon Focus and Greater Weapon Specialisation. Are these prerequisite feats for Epic Weapon Focus and Epic Weapon Specialisation in Layonara? Any advice would be appreciated.

Kind regards,
Eltalstro

'Rats! What an odd lot they were. Takin me under Centre t' kill rats. Who goes around killin rats other than small dogs an' hungry street urchins?
'Where's that bloody buckle got to? Oh, by the hells! I jes had it here in front o' me. Under here? No. Of course! Under that curious bug shell; there it is! I'll throw that bloody shell out.
'And bugs! By the hells! they were worse than the rats. Anyone'd think I were aimin t' make a pest queller out o' meself at this rate.
'Right, thread this leather through 'ere like so and... Oh bugger! Too short. I'll need t' get another length.
'Bugs and rats and then bloody ghouls and ghosts and walkin skeletons! If this is what provin me worth involves, I'm not sure it's worth it. Not that I didn't give em a good go, mind you! Heheheh...
'Right this time... Thread the leather through here and then... tie it through here... pull it tight... There, that should do. 'Hmmm, now to sharpen that new blade.
'O' course they weren't much help. Jes stood around mostly, yellin encouragement and watchin me get assaulted on all sides by vermin and bloody horrors from beyond the grave! They were nice fellas though. Didn't even want no loot. Never met nobody fool enough t' give away their share o' the loot before. Heheheh! Ceptin maybe Sirel. They musta realised I did all the heavy liftin. Now, what were their names? There was the knife obsessed one. He was Johnny. And the one with the outlandish, glowing eyes, "Jeeow" somethinorather I think. And the other fella with the wolf on his head. "Fuh", I think he was. What an odd lot. Friendly fellas though.
'Now, where's that blade got to?'

General Discussion / Publicly attaching character
« on: September 02, 2015, 07:24:29 am »

I have been trying to do this with the guide. I have entered the CD key and reached this stage: "At this point all your characters show up for you only as a simple link on your NWN Profile page. It's now up to you to stake a claim on your character which in essence publicly attaches your web account to that character. We made it this way because some players may not wish to let the public know about an alternate account but still want to see their character's information on their NWN Profile. By not staking a claim you can choose to keep it on the down low.

To publicly attach your character, simply visit that character's page by clicking their name in your NWN Profile. You should now see a box on the right hand side of the screen asking you to Add [Character Name] to your list of NWN characters.  Clicking that then attaches that character to your account and you're now ready to do things with this character through the web interface."

The problem is when "You should now see a box on the right hand side of the screen asking you to Add [Character Name] to your list of NWN characters[/b]." I don't see it. Any tips or suggestions?

Any help greatly appreciated,

Eltalstro

Development Journals and Discussion / The Way of the Hammer
« on: September 01, 2015, 07:24:27 am »
Well I'll take the bad with the good. During my travels from the mountains I've been robbed, nearly mauled to death by cougars and savaged by dog sized rats. The robbers got nearly everything while I was snoozing; My holy symbol of Dorand, my crafting certificate, my armour and my hammer. Just outside of Center I was set upon by viscious cougars with nought to defend myself but some flimsy leather armour and a measley mace. I would have met my death if not for a timely rescue by a wee halfling named Quenton. Before I could properly thank him he tossed me some healing potions and was off like a shot.Subsequnetly, I spent time looking for work in Center and was hired to do some extermination work at the craft hall. Truly this was a task sent by Dorand himself. How else can it be explained? And it was no mean feat. These rats were like ravenous wolves. My good fortune held however and a presumptuous halfling named Thorn aided me for three quarters of the reward value. I'm quite certain his parents named him after getting to know him for at least a year. But the reward for me was in seeing that the crafting hall was free from pestilence. In addition to the rats there were beetles the size of your hand and some unnamable, bloated queen insect. These were dispatched without difficulty but from the rats I contracted a sickness lasting several days and lay in convalescence in the bushes on the edge of town. The Lord Forge saw fit to add a further trial upon my recovery. While chatting with yet another halfling (there seem to be a fair few in this part of the land) named Kenzie,  a human woman named Mary proposed that, for a fee, we might help her to gather ingredients for her craft. I knew this to be a test of my resolve to further the pursuit of crafting in our world. This fine woman needed cooking ingredients that required treking half way around Mistone. It seems awfully dangerous to confront lizard men, trolls and enraged, moving trees in order to gather a few cooking ingredients but who am I to question the will of Dorand? It happened that the wee halfling was more than she seemed and although I had to protecct her by throwing myself in the way of rampaging trolls several times, she proved a worthy companion. I've replaced some of my personal effects now but I must purchase a set of armour and a crafting certificate. Most importantly, I need to locate a holy symbol of Dorand.

Sorry, I'm sure this has been covered but how do you get onto the server now that Gamespy isn't supporting PWs? Now that I've tried I think I need a server password. *Please disregard as I sorted this through a bit of thinking, remembering, more downloading and trying things. Feel free to delete.

Ask A Gamemaster / Crafting

Hi,I'm currently working on a Cleric of Dorand character. My aim is for him to eventually become a weapon and armour smith and a brewer (yes stereotypical I know). I remember striking a snag with my previous cleric character when it came to smithing as he had low dexterity. It seems that a standard barbarian would be more suited to smithing. Any advice on this?Regards,Eltalstro

Introduce Yourself / Coming back again

Came back for a look in 09 but RL got in the way. It was a little sad to see how empty the world was compared to 06. It looks like some players are coming back? I'm going to try to get a new character underway this weekend. Nothing beats Layonara RP.Regards,Eltalstro

Ask A Gamemaster / update question
« on: October 04, 2009, 04:14:18 am »
Hi, not sure if this is the right place to ask this question but I am having trouble obtaining the 1.69 critical rebuild patch. I imagine that this is a requirement and it aborts when I try to update. I tried downloading it from the Bioware site but after an hour it failed for some reason. So unfortunately I am having trouble getting into the game :( When I try to access the server the connect button does not function. I figure this may be due to not having the update but then again I know very little about this stuff.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated,
Eltalstro

Introduce Yourself / Coming back

Hey cool,

Like Amber Dragon I am coming back after a long time away. Just going through the techie stuff that is only just within my nominal computing capabilities so this may take a little while. *Looks at the screen blankly* "What's a tlk file?" I agree with Amber Dragon in that this place was hugely entertaining when I was here with great RP. I hope there is still a tight Dwarven community going strong. Now onto the more leisurely task of bio creation.

Ask A Gamemaster / Reintroduction of a character
« on: October 02, 2009, 06:02:32 pm »
Hi,

It has been almost three years since I last played. Is it possible to reintroduce a Dwarven character or has too much time passed in game? I've had a bit of a trawl through the lore pages and it seems many of my character's acquaintances and friends have disappeared. Perhaps creating a new character may be for the best. Any advice on this would be appreciated.
