Ask A Gamemaster / tis the season
« on: October 26, 2011, 05:11:37 pm »
ok, its the season of witches, goblins and things that go bump in the night.  so is it possible to get some jack o lanterns, sacrecrows and things like that sprinkled around center, hemp and vehl?   if the current haks dont have them, CEP 2.X does and maybe they could be imported from there?  Ive seen it done and I think it would add a lot to the world.

Ask A Gamemaster / character submission question
« on: October 23, 2011, 02:30:43 pm »
not sure if the is the right place to post this, but here goes anyway.  I was reading in the Inheritance cycle where the main character Eregon more or less went from human to elf or super elf as the case may be. the question I wanted to ask, was if somehint like that is possible on layo and specifically during the character generation bio?  if its not, no a big deal, but could make for some realy interesting RP and I was cruious.

General Discussion / Ft. Llast
« on: December 08, 2009, 08:05:00 pm »
ok, with hemp a wreck and ideas being tossed about on what to do as a starting city, I thought I would suggest Ft. llast.  Here is my thinking:
1. the stalwart fort is a military instillation, so the residents are used to people running around with sharp shiny or pointed things.  they are also more used to oddities, like being besiged by the local monsters and such.  much more so than old hlint.
2. it is centrally located. more of less the cross roads between east and west, north and soulth
3. an abundance of CNR's to be gathered and used, without having to travel a long distance and spend valuable game time.
4. for the hack and slash crowd, its a target rich environment.  its an especially good place for new characters to start, basically like hlint was.
5. a decent port in leringard is only a short distance away.

lastly and if this idea gets any intrest, the city could be redesigned and the new design open to the community.  plans for the city could be created using the tool set and given to the server. after that, they could be linked to a portal so that the players could do a walk through of each before voting.  might be a lot of fun and give players a chance to show case their talents.

Ask A Gamemaster / gotta ask why
« on: November 21, 2009, 11:02:29 am »
Why is it when somthing really good happens on Layo, it has to get complicated in the long run.  Take the Graceful Pleas, great idea, you make a mistake building your character, you get to redo it.  Great idea :) but now, it seems that character reapproval is necessary.  This from the people that are complaining they dont have time to approve characters that are waiting in the  wings.  Why? why cant it just be kept simple, you only get 1 shot at this as I undersatnd it, so why not make it a blanket thing.   you make a mistake, you get it fixed, you have fun.
The same is true with the SS reinbursement.  To get them replaced,  it seems like now you have to file an incident report on them.  A lot of us, me included, have not posted an SS loss, in the past, due to no WL/DM being around.  In cases like that, the chances of a reinbursement are pretty much zip, so why bother.  So I have to ask, is it such a horrid thing to give 3 GP's to extend a characters game life and have it be a blanket thing???  The way I see it, the GP's made life for a player simpler and the game more fun, but for some reason, it seems like that is just not right, that it has to be made tougher, like that is some badge of honor.  Why?  This server like its competitors is about fun.  So why does it always seem like it has to become a pain?  O.o

Ask A Gamemaster / half race characters
« on: July 26, 2009, 08:22:42 am »
are half drow/half elven characters allowed in game? technically, one would be all elf, but Im  not sure if or this would be a violation of the no half elf characters rule or not.

General Discussion / Wanted to thank Plen
« on: September 27, 2008, 08:55:47 am »
Wanted to take a moment to thank Orth for the story telling event.  It was fun and imformative and his story telling abilities rival those of Ozzy.   The Lore stories are something I have missed greatly and Im glad he took the time to share them with us as a community.

General Discussion / why can't clerics
« on: September 14, 2008, 08:38:07 pm »
Ive noticed that in alchemy, I can make a potion of heal.  But as a cleric, I cannot enchant one?  Kinda curious why this is? or if Im missing something in the crafting system?

General Discussion / quirky quest idea
« on: July 14, 2008, 11:38:27 pm »
back in the day, when I was in college, we used to play a game called assisination. Strange littel game played with dart guns.  There are a few variants, but the upshot of it was you never quite knew when someone was going to jump out and shoot you. left a lot of uncertainty to every day life.  why bring that up, you  might be asking, well I have an idea for a new type of quest and wanted to toss it out to the community for their opinions on it.
The general idea is that you come up with a world changing idea, say breaking the curse on the broken halls (my personal favorite) then, find a DM or DM's that would take on the GMing of it.  Pretty standard so far, but after the plans are set, it becomes an open quest.  That would mean, that anyone can sign up for it and the kicker is that only the DM/s would know who those people are.  Further, anyone signing up could have their own agendas, say I did the Broken halls thing, some group, say Corathites that think the Halls are just dandy as they are, could attempt to intervein.  They could do it  either sublty, or activly, say helping the undead and fighting me or my group in PVP or anything in between.  At the same time, unless I get a break, I would have no idea who my allies are for sure, or my enemies.  It could generate some real intreque in the game and add some excitement as people or groups maneuver to gain the upper hand.  Curious to hear what other players think, thanks for reading  and if this works, welcome to Machiavelli 101  8)

General Discussion / something worth redoing
« on: July 07, 2008, 07:53:04 pm »
My first expierence on Layo, was when we had the old Dragon called intro for new characters.  From the start,  there was a feeling, to me anyway, like I was entering into something that would be both momentus and challenging.  I was not dissapointed, the game was and still is fantastic and  according to my wife, you can add addictive as well.  But the way we start characters, now is by comparasion, unexciting, there is no sence of something epic that is about to begin.  So, what I guess the point of this is, is this, can we restore the old Dragon called player entry, updating it for the current world or create something equally as exciting.  It would give starting players a feel that they are getting into special, as opposed to just another online community

General Discussion / new death system idea
« on: June 29, 2008, 08:37:11 am »
a while back, I was on a server that automatically gave you a DT if your character died, but was not raised ( ie, you respauned) .  I wonder if this might not work on Layo as well?  with the ability to use raise dead scrolls and clerics, it seems like it has some potiential.  at the same time, if the manufacture of soul stones can be wrencehd from the temples, it could give an added boost to the Layo economy, through the sale of stones and scrolls.  just a thought for discussion. :)

General Discussion / gass prices
« on: May 22, 2008, 06:32:55 pm »
Ive been thinking about the price of gass lately and got to wondering if the hike in gass prices is such a bad thing.  Not that Im a fan of big oil, in any form, but there seem to be some positives aspects to it.  Higher prices tend to be pushing a lot of people to drive less, at least around where I live.   There are a lot more bicyclers and walkers, lately.  Some really fantastic innovations in vehicles, like the apterra (300 mpg set for production lateer this year) and the hybrids that finally seem to have taken hold.  The upshot would seem to be more excercise, less pollution and subsequently less dependance of forign oil. So, here is the question, is this such a bad thing?

General Discussion / is the crafting system flawed?
« on: May 12, 2008, 08:58:37 pm »
Ive been reading some of the crating posts recently and something Armolis said caught my eye.  He commented that some of the gear, in game, has likely been around since the Blood Wars.  Not sure how much, but it is possible given the game mechanics.  Now while swords and shields might have a rational for such longevity, what about enchantments and resistances?  shouldn t they wear off after a certain amount of time?  Just curious about what the rest of the community might think about this.

General Discussion / Voice Chat
« on: March 29, 2008, 01:35:28 pm »
a while back, some friends of mine, told me about a program that allowed them to talk in game to select people, while playing, instead of the typing that we do.  Is that something we could use on layo?
