Name: Kendar Lightfingers
Age: 98
Class(es): Ranger / Rogue
Race: Gnome
Subrace (if applicable): Forest Gnome
Alignment: TN
Deity (if devoted): Katia
Domains (if cleric): N/A
Biography and Description:

Kendar's younger years were spent fooling around with friends and playing pranks on one another.
Kendar seemed to have a nack for slipping things out of people's pockets, or taking things out of people's baskets
even if they were looking in the same direction as the baskets. Kendar never used his skill to actually steal things,
it was more fun to take the things and then ask them if anything was missing, and then point to where he had set it down.
He would do this over and over to the point that people became annoyed with him. Having him in your house meant looking for
that tool you knew you just had sitting in front of you on the desk... only to find it half way across the room on the shelf.

Kendar also had a nack for asking annoying questions all of the time.
His curiosity had no match.

When Kendar turned 60, it was time for him to learn the family traditions. His family were defenders of the forests they lived in,
and so he was taught the ways of the ranger by his mother and father. It was this training that would change his life forever.

Many years went by, Kendar was now 70, he was nearly finished with his training.
Kendar and his parents were out for their normal training routines and routes along the borders of their territories when Kendar
heard some noises coming from just past the clearing in the forest. Curiosity getting the better of him, he decided to investigate.
He slowly circled the clearing making sure to stay in the cover of the trees, when he heard what sounded like a wounded deer struggling.
Kendar rushed around each tree dipping and dodging brush and fallen branches. Then he saw it; someone had put out a trap, and the deer had
managed to step right into it. Kendar moved quickly ahead to free the animal but he never made it. Three steps into his forward stride he suddenly
found himself in the air, caught by a net. He struggled for a while trying to reach his knife but before he could free it from his boot he heard voices.
Three men came out of the trees, and one clubbed him over the head. "I got me one!" was the last thing he heard.

Kendar woke up surrounded by metal bars, in a small cage. All around him there were other cages, big, small, and in between. All of them were full of
other people of various races that had been met with the same misfortune. All of the cages were full except for one very small cage. Kendar did not know what would fit inside a cage that small other than a cat perhaps. Kendar then realized that his cage had been set up higher than the rest of the cages, all of them except for the tiny cage.

A few days past. Kendar awoke this morning to the sound of a half orc telling a very small looking man to shut up or he'd sew his mouth shut.
The tiny man's voice was very strange and he was kicking and yelling at the half orc that had him by the neck, holding him in the air.
The half orc pushed the tiny man into the tiny cage and Kendar realized that there was much about the world he did not know.

Most of the larger people that were caged with them were taken out of the cages daily, shackled, and led to the mines to work. At night they were brought back and thrown back into their cages. Kendar had learned that the tiny man was named Luidan and that he was of a race called brownie. Kendar and Luidan were the only two who didn't seem to be pulled from the cages to work. For years now people came by and poked them with sticks and told them to dance. It was really getting on Luidan's nerves. While they danced in the small cages the people would laugh at them and then move on.
One night Kendar awoke to a strange noise. He looked around, and at first saw nothing unusual. He looked over to Luidan's cage and the tiny man was up to something. It was then that Kendar realized that the lock on the tiny cage wasn't a tiny lock, but the same lock that was on his cage. The tiny man had a small piece of metal in his hands and had nearly his whole arm shoved inside the lock.

"What are you doing?" Kendar whispered hard.
"I'm getting out of here" replied Luidan, "Are you coming with me, or do you plan to dance your life away?".
Just then the lock on Luidan's cage popped open.
"I'm in" Kendar said quickly.

Luidan picked the lock on Kendar's cage in no time and they began their escape.

It wasn't easy for them to escape, and while they made their way they set many traps, picked many locks and Luidan taught Kendar the skills he needed to do these things. They finally made their way out, and left the cave. Heading down the road they came into view of city gates. Looking ahead they saw a sign posted along the road.
It said "Katherian"

Neither of them having any idea where they were, or how to get home from where they were, they started walking away from the road towards the trees.
"There they are! Get them!" they heard someone scream and saw several orcs pouring out of the cave behind them.
Quickly they both ran, faster and faster. When they finally stopped and felt safe that they weren't being followed, they both realized, they had run in different directions.

Kendar searches for his home.

Character Name: Deldhin'el Lumorneth Amarth'anel

    Del

Character Age: 112

Character Class: Druid

Character Race: Elf

Character Sub-Race: Wild Elf

Character Gender: Female

Character Alignment: TN

Deity Associated With: Kithairien and Katia

Cleric Domain: N / A

Character Birthplace: Near The Whitehorn

Character Biography:

Del grew up travelling with her parents across Mistone.  They never stayed in one place for too long, and they had few friends because of this.  They travelled alone most of the time, however the seven families they knew never travelled too far apart.  Together the families, known as the travelling eight, kept watch over each other from a distance, usually not far out of ear shot of the bird calls they knew how to mimic.  Each family chose a different call and while on the move you could hear each distinguished tune being called out.  The families never left much behind, rarely a foot print they didn't realize they'd left.  None of them owned much as far as materials, however they all possessed a grand number of skills.  Del's mother was often called a witch, though she wasn't a witch and was often chased away from towns and villages when they'd go for the few supplies they couldn't make themselves.  Del's mother had been caught changing forms on two separate occasions, and people thought she was dangerous.  Del's mother was a druid and usually only changed forms for hunting or protection.  Del's father was a hunter, and they had several trained hunting animals they kept close by.

When Del was born she was given her name because of the things that had started happening around her birthday.  That day is when the travelling eight became the travelling seven.

All the camps were set up and the fires lighted. The meals for the day were being cooked and all of the gear had been properly hidden. Most travellers wouldn't be able to find their camps while passing by, but tonight was a different night. The kettle warmed the water and the midwife gathered the cotton and silk cloths. Del was born.  They all laid down to get some rest.

Sounds of pounding, and thumping on the ground filled the air, every noise followed by pulses felt in the ground.  Animal noises filled the air as the travelling eight called to each other for aid.  Alas it was too late, one of the families disappeared into the forest never to be seen again.  They all gathered their supplies put out the fires and moved along as fast as they could.  What made such quick work of the family?  Was it the outcasts?  A large bear?  Giants?  Nobody knew, all they knew was run!

Years went by.

Del is now 10.  Two families have disappeared now, in the same manner.  Is someone following the families?  Still unable to catch the persons or beings responsible the families keep moving.  They watch every shadow wondering if it will come for them next.  When will the silent horror come from the shade of the trees and claim another.  The travelling six continue on.  Del has been learning her skills from her mother and father, and has taking a liking to bears.  She does not know why, but they intrigue her immensely.  Fascinated by them she often hides in the forest not far off watching them sharpen their claws, and catch fish with their paws.  She watches them climb trees and run faster than they look capable.  She watches them in their slumber while they hibernate the winter days away.  She's also found fascination with mixing herbs and various minerals, and growing new plants.  Sometimes she swears she can see the plant actually moving as it grows.

Years go by.

Del is now an adult, there aren't many of the travelling eight left, and Del has been going over the events that happened and studying the ground behind them, despite her parents warnings, every time they stop determined to figure out what has been happening.  To no end.

Del decides to go off away from her family and search farther in the world for the possibility of an answer.

Extra Credit:

Del is quite muscular for a female, and stands 5'1" tall, slender and trim from constant travel.  She is tan, with black hair and green eyes.  She bears her families tatoos.
She is quite fond of bears, deer, snakes, and wolves.  She can sometimes be found tracking and silently following them around.
She uses shadows often to hide, but not before throwing a small glowing stone that she carries with her at all times, to check them for danger first.
Del doesn't take sides easy, and is not quick to judge.  She tries to find the balance of things but does so very carefully and with a great deal of observation and thinking first, never jumping to conclusions too fast.
She's quiet until you get to know her, as she's probably watching you thoroughly.

I'm looking for the information on PRCs, I've been to archive.layonara.com and old.layonara.com... the search feature doesn't seem to work and I can't find any information on what i'd need to do to take shifter levels.

Any help would be great.

He has a load of gear on his back and looks as if he has seen much of the world, and many battles. He stands and stares all creepy like at the fire.*

// meant for groups of two or three people of low level. (  1-8  )

Ask A Gamemaster / Deciding to multiclass
« on: January 30, 2008, 01:30:58 pm »
I am currently playing a 9th level wizard, and i've decided I would like to multiclass to either fighter or ranger and Arcane Archer in the long run.

the question is should i take fighter or ranger
my stats are

str 12
dex 17
con 14
int 19
wis 8
cha 8

with the creature skin for gray elf
my bab is 4

I would prefer to take Ranger as my second class, but i hear my wisdom is lacking for that... though i could put more points into wisdom at a later date and still be well built i think...

any game masters advice would be appreciated.

Biography:

Glitch'nich Amthrmil lived in the mountains with his uncle. He never got along with his uncle well but his uncle was a good teacher, and the only teacher that Glitch'nich really cared to listen to. Him and his uncle had left the grey elf camps, being entirely tired of the rest of their race, and moved to their own secluded mountain, because indeed they were the greatest Grey Elves of them all. Knowing this, they grew tired of the rest of their race quickly, completely engrossed by their arrogance and superiority over the rest of their race.

Durring the evening hours and all through the night Glitch'nich and his uncle took turns keeping an eye out for the giants that continually invaded their territory trying to get a foot hold on the mountain, and durring the night hours these attacks were usually increased.
They took turns meditating for 4 hours at a time and watching for enemies. Glitch'nich was tired of living this way but he needed to stay and finish his training in the art of magic.

One day as Glitch'nich was getting near the end of his training he decided enough was enough; he hated these giants and was tired of the constant battles he had to endure to live on the mountains. His uncle was getting to be too old to hold these mountain tops anymore and enough was enough it was time to move.

He didn't really give his uncle a choice in the matter, he just packed up all their belongings and told him they were leaving.
His uncle stood there for a while in awe of the arrogance that stood before him telling him what he was going to do. Realizing that his nephew was right, he went along.

Glitch'nich didn't have any idea where they would go, but he was determined to go somewhere a bit more peaceful so his uncle could enjoy the rest of his life in a bit of peace.

They traveled for a long time on horse back looking for a suitable place to live and couldn't find one... Glitch'nich decided they would put up aloof a small town and put up a magical barrier to disguise a large tree as nothing more than a tree, and put up a house there for a while.

They lived there for the next century watching the town grow and thrive, playing Vigilante Knight of the Realm with the towns folk whenever trouble arose, yet remaining unseen. until his uncle died.

With his uncle dead and no one else left to trust but himself he decided it was time to wage war against any evils he could find on Layonara, big, or small, he would crush them, all by himself if he had to because he was the best elf for the job if there was any.
