Ask A Gamemaster / Feat Extra Turning Undead
« on: March 18, 2015, 07:15:17 pm »
Hi,I have a question about the EPIC feat Extra Turning Undead. The feat allows extra turning undead but does it allow Divine Might as well? The number of Divine Might and Turn Undead is related.

Fixed Bugs / Storm of Vengeance
« on: March 04, 2015, 08:05:58 pm »
Hi, I apologize ahead of time if I am not using the correct terminology. I noticed that after the update 3.40.1, where the AoE was fixed, did that reduce the frequency where the enemy has to make a save so that the storm of vengeance will strike them? I am asking this because I notice that before the update, 2 storms would easily kill 2 Great Forest giants. Now, you'll be lucky if 2 storms would "badly wounded" the two giants. My character is a level 28 cleric, the DC on her storm is 29. I have tested several times where I would go invisible and cast the storm on the two giants right outside of Hilm Castle. I would fight/hit them as well but it seems like the storm is not striking the giants as often. I guess what I am trying to say is, before it seems like the giant would attempt to make a save every round. Now, it seems like the giant would only attempt to make the save every 3 or 4 rounds (that might seem like an exaggeration but the idea is there). Did the frequency for the storm of vengeance to strike the enemies reduce?

Version 3.40.1 is online!

Not much to this one except a couple nice to haves. You will need the following updated ctrl hak, don't worry it's quite a small file:

http://e5bf79fd7133583b11df-dabb80c66fac67c5c4cbee545d8dd728.r44.cf1.rackcdn.com/haks/layo_ctrlv3r19.rar (353KB)

Fixes:

  • Shield of Faith spell script was signalling wrong event

  • Endure elements wasn't taking into account extended spell

  • Added area tile edge files

  • =c fixhorsehead if you get stuck with a horsehead

  • Fix couple transitions which pointed you the wrong way

  • Fixed rest area in Angels Guild Hall

  • Length of time a merchant had +/- feelings for you could be in negative

  • Fix issue with not being sent back to your bind point when it was on former Central server when respawning

  • House had the name Pranzis instead or Prantz

Additions:

    [li]

Tweak AoE spells to last better in lag and with the caster moving[/li][li]

    Silence spell ignores ally's SR[/li]
[li]

Few more bosses give boss XP[/li]
Ask A Gamemaster / blind and sneak attack
« on: February 02, 2012, 09:42:08 pm »
I am curious about this....

So I was fighting vampires that do sneak attack. I blinded them with Word of Faith. Yes, I checked and they were indeed blind. I fought them, no problem. The curious thing I saw was that they still did sneak attack.

So my question is, if something is blind.... can they/should they be able to do sneak attack?

Development Journals and Discussion / Shyntyl's Black Book
« on: January 19, 2012, 07:02:05 pm »
It has been years since Shyntyl left the Deep. Naive at first and always hidden from the surfacers. She and her slave, Xiomara, strayed from town and seeked out caves and heavy forest for cover. They sleep and rest during the day and explore as the sun set.

Over the years, they have explored much of the surface. Shyntyl would send Xiomara to town to scout and secure food and provisions. She would rarely enter town herself so that her presence is not notice by the town folks and adventurers.

Life on the surface was not pleasant for the daughter of a War Priestess. Every day was constant battle and fighting. To ensure her goal, she and Xiomara raided goblin's territory daily. They showed no mercy and cut down all that they faced. Shyntyl learned everytime she went to battle. With Vierdri'ira blessings, she had no fear as she bestowed dark clouds over her foes.

General Discussion / Difference between topside and underground
« on: June 17, 2011, 11:45:30 am »
Hi All,

I have a question. I am not trying to find loopholes, I just want to get a better understanding.

Here is scenario #1.

A player decides to go get platinum. He/she rests in Fort Vehl, or the transitions outside of Fort Vehl in the forest, which are several transitions away from the platinum swamp entrance. He/she travels all the way and fights all the trolls and whatever, to get to the platinum. (I am estimating less than 20 transitions to get to the platinum from Fort Vehl.) Afterwards, he/she gets back to Fort Vehl to rest and log. The next day, repeat. Why is this considered ok? (I assume it is ok because I have seen many done it and there has been no repercussions.)

Here is scenario #2.

A high level player decides to get titantium. He decides to rest down in the Deep and not on the surface. Or perhaps he's an evil character that prefers the dark shade over the sunlight. Or he's a dwarf that likes to mine and prefers underground. Or a dark elf or dwarf. (yes I know it is dangerous but I am sure not every corner, every tunnel down in the Deep is dangerous 24/7. I am sure perhaps a secluded part is partially safer than the rest to have a "quick" rest.) Anways, he fights his way to get titanium and travels about the same amount of transitions as in scenario #1 to that "safer" spot to catch his breath and rest a bit. He logs and repeats the next day. However, this is considered "camping" for CNR.

Why is doing it on the surface is ok but down in the Deep it is not ok?

One can argue well it is safer to rest on the surface. True, but I have seen players resting in forests near the Prantz area, or in the Great Forest near Hilm Castle. Those giants near Prantz do roam. Those Great Forest giants roam as well. Those Screechers too. This is similar to saying oh there are dangerous creatures down in the Deep.

Ask A Gamemaster / Ability Score
« on: June 13, 2011, 04:45:24 am »
*waves*

What is the maximum ability score you can have for a particular ability on Layonara? A while ago someone told me 42 (that's base + items + casting spell). Your answer is greatly appreciated.

Trade and Market Hall / Wanted: Woodland Soles

I'm looking to purchase a pair of Woodland Soles. I offer 100,000 trues.

Is it possible to make it so that when you barter with a merchant, you can purchase in large quantity? For example, when I try to purchase the enchanting oil from the crafting merchant, it is painful right-clicking and purchasing one at a time. Is it possible where we can select and enter the quantity we wish to purchase instead of single purchase?

Ask A Gamemaster / Did Central just crash?
« on: May 27, 2011, 01:29:51 am »
Hi,

We need help. Kylie and Hayley were exploring the Ruins of the Broken One when the server crashed. It was down for like 5 minutes. We are afraid to log in because of the obvious dangers of no spells, etc. Can a DM log on to help out? Thank you.

General Discussion / PvP
« on: May 03, 2011, 12:28:15 pm »
Hi All,

From my understanding, this server allows PvP. Of course, there are rules in place to regulate the PvP, such as RPing leading to PvP and players agreeing to PvP, or with GM watch PvP. If one party declines PvP, there is no PvP and absolutely no pursuing of PvP or griefing.

However, I was just thinking about the whole process and trying to see if it can be improved. For example, a dark elf (PC) and a dwarf (PC) run into each other in the open field. The RP ensues and potential PvP can happen. Unfortunately, the PC's need to stop the RP for a split second, send tells to each other asking whether PvP is ok, and then use the widget to get the PvP going, if that is what the PC's decide to do.

I was thinking of making a post, where all the players who wish to bypass the "send the tell procedure" sign their names if they want, agreeing to PvP for certain character, if the opportunity presents itself. The reason why I was thinking this is because then you don't have to send a tell in the middle of the RP and lose your sense of the RP. This will allow better immersion of the RP. Obviously, the widget will still be used and if the area is NO PvP and no PvP, such as inside a town.

Same example above, a dark elf (PC) and dwarf (PC) run in to each other. The RP ensues and the PvP widgets are used. No "tell" send to each other about PvP.

What do you all think?

Ask A Gamemaster / Changing house lock
« on: April 11, 2011, 01:26:25 pm »
I recently bought Quill's house, when I clicked on the door, there's an option to change all house keys. If I do that, am I still able to enter the house? I don't want to be locked out of my own house. :p

Ask A Gamemaster / Donation to Temple
« on: March 10, 2011, 08:39:26 am »
Hi,

I have never paid attention but when you donate items to the temple of a deity, does the temple get credit for the value that is determined by the lens of pricing, or does the temple get credit for what the pawnshop would pay?

For example, let's say an armor is worth 20K trues based on the lens of pricing. However, when you try to sell it to a pawnshop guy, he might pay only 500 trues. So when you donate that armor to the temple, does the temple donation credit gets 20K trues worth, or only 500 trues worth? By temple getting donation credit, I am referring to when you click on "Layonara Links - Temple Donation," it shows all the donation credits with respect to deities.

Rumour has it that a "white" wizard is looking for some muscles to help carry coals and platinum ores deep from the cave to the surface. Compensation will be discussed.

Surface At Last

Oh curse this dreaded sun. It burns! I could not have phantomed how the sunlight burns my delicate skin. It was a quick lesson for me to learn and cover up. Alas I decided for us to make our travel at night time under the warmth of darkness.

It's been weeks since we have left the Deep. We have made our travel along the main road. We stayed off the road though for we did not want unsolicitated attention. Our travel through the woods have remained uneventful. Although I must say, the critters in the woods were quite tame. All the easier for us to hunted our game and had our fill!

We made it to this outpost called Center. While the sun was high, I made sure both of us stayed in the outskirt and hidden. Once nighttime came, we made our way into town with ourselves covered up. We stayed in the shadow as we traveled through the town. The streets were vacant with a few stragglers here and there. I could see the alleys were busy with cloaked figures. I had Xiomara go in to gauge their attention before I appear to converse with them.

Not surprisingly, they were lowlifes. A few persuasive words and the flash of Xiomara blade got what I wanted to know. They quickly told us about Center and the types of adventurers that pass through the town. I also learned where I could make a few trues, and a nearby cemetary where I can scavenged for precious commodity. Before leaving them be, I warned them not to mention our encounter. If they even whisper to a fly, those would be their last words. With that, Xiomara and myself disappeared into the darkness.

Development Journals and Discussion / Hayley's Letters
« on: July 12, 2010, 09:42:26 am »
After several days of travels and battling goblins, Hayley finally took some time to rest in the comfort of the city's inn. Her past few days around Port Hempstead have been an eye opener. She has seen much more than she could have imagined from reading her books back home in the gnome community. She is eager to travel more as soon as she is well rested. However, she misses her father greatly. She decides to write back home to let her father know she is doing well and that he should not worry about her.

Dear Beloved Father,

I am here at Port Hempstead. Thus far, my travel has been safe. When I got here, I met this short elf, SehKy. He is always covered up with his hood; he doesn't talk much... but he is very kind and helpful. He took the time to show me the city of Port Hempstead. Let me tell you father, the city is HUGE. There are so many shops and travellers. Everyone is busy shuffling their feet and minding their own business... except SehKy. He saw I was a stranger to this grande city and took his time to show me around. Then again, he could have alternative motives like you have told me so many times father. I am a girl and I need to be careful of the opposite sex. They are always up to no good. I will heed your advice and be very wary.

But let me tell you about SehKy... he's this elf. He is very skilled with his bow. I saw him shoot a rat right in the eye from twenty feet away! It was quite impressive. What are we doing killing rats you ask? Oh well, the Trues that you gave me didn't last long and I was running low. So, SehKy told me about this lady with rats problem. She asked me to investigate for her and so I agreed. That led me to the sewer... and SehKy came along with me to guide me through the sewer. That was where we saw giant rats! They were squeeking and chasing after us. You know how I am with rodents, Father. *shivering just thinking about it* Anywho, good thing SehKy was there to tame those rats. Long story short, we took care of the rodent problems and the lady paid me well for the trouble.

Oh, while we are on the subject of elves, I met this family of elves. Wow, they are a handful! All I could do was listen. They kept talking back and forth. And I think one of them was trying to put the moves on me. I must say... he had the looks and he caught my attention but my oh my. His family sure can talk! They are all skilled warriors and priestesses. When we traveled out to the outskirts of Port Hempstead, I understood some of the cantations that they were preparing. I must say, I have lots to learn. I couldn't understand a lot of what they were doing. It will come with time once I learn more about this city, Father. That's it for now. I am running out of parchments and will get more to write to you. Take care and I will visit home soon once.

Love,
Hayley

Hayley seals the letter in an envelope and hands it to a courier out by bar. She heads back to her room and rest for the evening.

Introduce Yourself / Hello all
« on: July 08, 2010, 09:01:24 am »
Hi Layonara Community,

As you can see, I am new to Layonara. First, I want to thank Rowana for the swift replies and approval. Although the submission process hit a few snags (a few editing), Rowana was kind enough to work with me so that my submission met the guidelines. Thank you again.

Secondly, I logged on for the first time last night. Let me just say, the server is HUGE! I was very lost; I died a few times too... those pesky ogres and goblins got me good :( Fortunately, SehKy was kind enough to show me around town, and the surrounding area. Thank you SehKy for taking the time to show a new player around. Also, thank you Sasha for the dress! I like it a lot! You guys have made my first log in experience enjoyable and entertaining.

Well, I guess that's it. See you all online and if I do something wrong or step on someone's toes, I apologize ahead of time. I am still new and I just started playing Neverwinter Nights a few months ago. I can barely manuever around.

-Hayley
