Ask A Gamemaster / Bashing things
« on: January 31, 2013, 06:49:07 pm »
Been kinda wandering about a few things of which I could have asked in the Shattered Weapon thread but then it would go off that threads main topic so I make a new thread.

When mining, chopping trees or generally attacking/bashing an inanimate object, do they really need any AC? I mean... its inanimate... it can't move... so how can your really miss?

Also, webs... why do we have to bash down webs? Can't we simply reach out, grab and tear them down? Are they made of metal or something?

Ask A Gamemaster / CD-Key in use
« on: January 20, 2013, 01:39:28 pm »
Well, this is a bit odd... may have just been some sorta glitch or something. but after creating Aidon Talmar in game and getting into Center I rested then logged out (assuming thats still required with new characters) and now can't get back in. Saying my CD-Key is in use on the server. Any way to fix this?

Ask A Gamemaster / LORE lacking... LORE
« on: January 19, 2013, 05:48:29 pm »
Ok first off I kinda wanna ask... about how long has Layonara been around? About a few years at least I'm assuming.

Second, with Layo being around for so long... even in Pen and Paper form as it supposedly started out as... how then is it LORE is not yet finished... let alone even seeming all that close to being finished?

Was browsing through the LORE pages for some information on towns and other things and about every link I clicked I get "This is a stub for (such and such)".

Not even (what I assume to be) the most famous city (Leringard) has any information.

Ask A Gamemaster / Mist Temples/shrines
« on: January 17, 2013, 06:16:41 pm »
About how many temples and/or shrines to Mist are there and where?

LORE tells of only one that is out on the water near the Leringard docks though hints of one being built in Dregar and of smaller representations. Where are these smaller representations?

Wanting Ragna to become a cleric of Mist and visit some temple(s) and/or shrine(s) when he does become one. As it seems though for that he would have to travel all the way from Hempsted to Leringard. Bit of a long walk... unless there were ships to take him.

Ask A Gamemaster / Cleric Meta-Magic
« on: January 16, 2013, 03:10:54 pm »
Something I recently been thinking about after finally realizing how great meta-magic can be. Though also kinda got me wandering... what sorta role play backing could there be to a cleric using meta-magic? They pray extra hard? Giving longer more drawn out prayers? There deity some how favors them more then other? :\

NWN Ideas, Suggestions, Requests / UMD for all! (cross-class)
« on: January 07, 2013, 08:10:59 pm »
So been fiddling around with the 2DAs from the 2DAsource archive and had this rather interesting idea. Remembering how in NWN2 and DDO they had UMD available for all classes as a cross-class skill (rogues and bards still have it as a class skill).

So, taking out the CLS_Skill_****.2DA files for all the base classes and the Skills.2DA and making a few small changes. (In Skills.2DA under collum AllClassesCanUse, change UseMagicDevice line from 0=no to 1=yes then adding UseMagicDevice to line 25/26 (depending on class) in each classes CLS_SKILL_****.2DA file and a 0 for class skill) Now all base classes and put points into UMD and use wands and scrolls. YAY! :D

And yes I tested it and it works. YAY! :D

And as an added note... skill is available at creation too. YAY! :D

NWN Ideas, Suggestions, Requests / Spell Blade
« on: January 04, 2013, 10:07:22 pm »
Ok so my very first attempt to make a custom PRC.

Haven't really managed to test it... mainly cause... I don't know how. :( Might have done some things wrong but the only guides to making custom PRCs that I could find were either incomplete guides... or really confusing ones.

In any case, ever since I learned of Layos Spell Sword class I've been thinking... it's name and what it requires and has don't quite seem to go together... at least by what I would think a Spell Sword is. That being a magical swordsman with little to no armor... save for maybe magic armor from spells. Layos Spell Sword seems more like a battle mage, a heavily armored spellcaster.

Recently I found out my computer can handle NWN 2 and there I found (among many other new classes) the Eldritch Knight... of which my PRC is kinda modeled from.

Req: BAB                     5
       Martial weapon
       Combat Casting
       SF: Concentration
       Dodge
       Mobility
       Discipline              5
       Spell craft            10
       Lore                    10
       concentration       10
       Arcane spell level   4

HD: 6

BAB: Main

Class Skills: (2+INT) All Wiz/Sorc skills plus
Discipline, Parry (As they learn to fight in melee combat) and Tumble (lack of armor they learn to be more graceful in battle)

and

Arcane Spell level every level as though leveling in caster class.

no new spells per level though. Wiz can scribe new spells for new slots. Sorc and Bard as always... out of luck... do wish it could work the same as in NWN2 where Spellcasting PRCs do gain new spells but I guess not.

Would take off gaining a spell level at first level like NWN2s Eldritch knight but don't think you can.

Anyways, wanted to try and make this class cause well... was wanting to play a sword swinging mage with little to no armor... er... physical armor that is. Could perhaps add the imbue weapon though not sure if that would be to powerful or not.

A couple things to note... didn't make any custom TLKs for it... a bit to confusing... and the files are in txt rather then 2da... couldn't figure out how to make or convert to 2da.

Ask A Gamemaster / God/Goddess of death
« on: December 09, 2012, 02:56:32 am »
So, found out my computer can run NWN 2 and after playing it with the expansion I noticed quite a few new classes. Mostly new PrCs and a few new base classes.

Anyways, one of the new classes got me thinking about that life and death cleric I've been trying to make before. The class name was Doom Guide. They worship a god of death and despite that they act like undead slayers as in they hunt down the undead. Guess despite being a death god he despises the undead, stealing souls from the afterlife I suppose. They also share there knowledge of the afterlife with those who are dieing and those in morning to help make there transition easier.

This then got me thinking of two particular beings in Layo that might be the same The Harvester and The Soul Mother.

So my question is... Can either be worshiped and be granted powers from them? In other words be there cleric?

Would about say they both would have a grudge against the undead. The Harvester having souls taken from the afterlife before they can be judged and/or sent off there god/goddess. Soul Mother having her well... food I suppose... taken from her.

Ask A Gamemaster / Unarmed combat
« on: December 08, 2012, 02:39:27 am »
Something I've been thinking about yet not quite sure how it would actually work.

We have monks with all there unarmed and unarmored abilities... but there strictly lawful... then we have Sacred Fist, some what similar but they can wear armor though... must be a devout worshiper (cleric and/or paladin).

Kinda wanting an unarmed fighter that is not lawful and not that much of a worshiper. So my question... how good would an unarmed fighter or barbarian be?

Can't master unarmed strike... though can focus and specialize in it. My main concern is damage especially when compared to not only the two classes mentioned but to actually using a weapon.

Ask A Gamemaster / Center Crypt Skeletons
« on: November 22, 2012, 11:30:57 pm »
Ok so, made Alexander and went on the undertakers quest to get his lamp. Took out Skeletons easy enough with his heavy mace but the spider seems much more powerful and well, being the persistent stubborn person I am (and Alex is as well :p ) I kept running back in to kill it till the Skeles respawned then went around killing them again.

My problem though and yes I know they can spawn with and use random items but shouldn't there be some sorta limit to what items they can and cant use?

First one quaffed a potion of bulls strength and one hits me. Ok, sure, being level 1 practicly everything one hits you.

My major problem was when I was fighting the spider again. a Skely came up and pulls out... a scroll of animate undead?!!! and right behind me appears an skeletal chieftain?!!! :o :o

A level 1 skeleton... casting animate undead... at a caster lever 10... summoning... a skeletal chieftain?!!! :o :o :o

Ask A Gamemaster / Charm/Dominate Person
« on: November 18, 2012, 02:08:28 am »
Ok, this is more of a question to the Angels guild and any other player shop/traders... and to GMs too...

Was thinking of a sorta arcane trickster type character, Wiz/Rog mostly, and been debating between Illusionist or Enchanter and after looking the NWN Wiki leaning a bit toward enchanter.

Then I read about the Charm and Dominate spells and there effects on merchants (NPC ones that is) Charm reduces Appraise by 10 and Dominate reduces it by 20.

Charm person - NWNWiki, the Neverwinter Nights Wiki - your guide to the game of NWN

Dominate person - NWNWiki, the Neverwinter Nights Wiki - your guide to the game of NWN

Question in... can you Charm and/or Dominate PC Merchants? :) Causes a temporary stun to PCs but still... at least rolls would be made automatically then and spell point used without need of GM. ;)

Now question to GMs... ummm... if there is no Telepathy... then what is it Charm and Dominate do... RP wise? :\

Just for Fun / Journeyquest
« on: October 20, 2012, 12:16:55 pm »
Hey, not sure if this has been posted or not but found this first on Hulu (1st season only) then on youtube (both season 1 and 2)

Pretty funny take on a sorta D&D story.

Zombie Orpheus Entertainment - YouTube

And have to say... some how tempted to make a character like the supposed knight. *draws sword and points forward shouting* Onward!

Or maybe the gargoyle... a character that for some reason can never tell the truth. *man asks* Do you want to die? *lier responds* y-yes... :D

!!!SPOILER ALERT!!!

Also after watching the first episode of season two... the bards guild in the stories... seems alot like Aragens ways. Observe and record events of the world without getting involved.

!!!END OF SPOILER!!!

Ask A Gamemaster / In-game Gambling
« on: September 07, 2012, 02:16:52 pm »
So been having this thought of some form of gambling in-game where the in-game character place bets with there gold. (much like RL gambling but NOT with RL money) About the only kind I can think of is a very few dice games using the the /roll #d# (#=number)

There any sort of custom cards items in-game or maybe even a gambling hall some place?

General Discussion / What would you do?
« on: September 04, 2012, 04:25:56 pm »
Just a little something I thought up and thought might be interesting to try here. All are welcome to answer and post up any little scenarios they have in mind. Who know, might even get some put in game as random events... or atleast variations of the scenarios.

Now in terms of fairness I would prefer in added scenarios NOT to but in anything like "You met up with (character name)" mainly cause I would think some or perhaps even a lot of people on here have not really seen your character or anyone much to really get to know them or even who they are. Personally I barely know any characters in the game. Mostly just drop in any general scenario and no the character thing is not a rule... just a personal pref... though you can put your character as the person going through someones scenario.

Now, without farther ado. On with the first scenario.

While wandering the land you come across a small goblin village. As tribal and barbaric as it may appear none of the inhabitants appear to have any means of effectively defending themselves aside from some basic hunting equipment laying about. A fire in the center with some meat roasting over it and verious animal hides and herbs. Another thing of note is that most inhabitants are but small goblin children and there mothers. Looking at you they appear to not show anger or hostility but rather fear and terror...

What would you do?

A few choices (optional and can be added to anyone's scenario post if they wish.)

A. Draw your weapon and raid the defenseless village. (After all... there evil and vile little goblins. Goblins raid and pillage defenseless villages all the time.)

B. Take note of the village from afar then continue on. (perhaps inform the guards of the next town so they can post up notices so travelers would know to avoid that road)

C. Calmly approach the village, finding some way to communicate with them and ask to speak with there elder/chieftain and negotiations some form of peace treaty. (establish trade, information, alliance with the ruler of the region)

Ask A Gamemaster / Blood Seraph offspring
« on: August 23, 2012, 09:41:14 am »
After reading a bit from a link in another thread (different thread, different question) LORE: Vampires

It states under Blood Seraph that they can procreate. So my question (though pretty obvious answer I assume) Can we make a lesser Blood Seraph? By lesser I mean one that shares some of there powers (lesser variations at that) but are essentially mortal.

Would almost think in terms of abilities and such the already made custom race LORE: Tiefling could be fairly good for them.

+2 Dexterity, +2 Intelligence, -2 Charisma (ESA +2 DEX, +2 INT, -2 CHA)
Five (5) Points of Fire, Electricity, and Cold Resistance
Immunity to Charm Person, Dominate Person and Hold Person
Darkvision
+2 Hide checks
+2 Universal Saves
Darkness as a spell like ability
Must be Chaotic
Level Adjuster: 2
ECL at first level: 3

Especially since both Tiefling and Aasimar are not playable races... though are possible still a very few still being played.

Could possibly make it a new race then... with a few changes. Removing the elemental resistances and probably the immunity to Charm, Hold and Dominate and in my opinion Any non-good rather then just pure Chaotic.

Though all in all just a thought. Though... something tells me the answer to my question... is a big fat no. :D ... :(

Forum Bugs / Character Approvals Page 6
« on: August 18, 2012, 08:14:40 pm »
Was going through the Character approvals to see if any of my old approved characters were still there and on page 6 I've founds some threads that where there but had nothing in them. All threads from Hauke Gormsen to Jason Shadowstep are blank except for Tera, Sehky. Treads after Jason on page 6 still have there posts.

NWN Ideas, Suggestions, Requests / New PRC: Marksmen
« on: August 17, 2012, 04:00:10 pm »
Just a small thought I've been having.

NWN had with it the Weapon Master class though could only master melee weapons. My idea for this new class is sorta like a weapon master for ranged weapons.

Req:

Weapon Focus in a ranged weapon. (Bow, Crossbow, Sling, throwing)
Point Blank Shot
Rapid shot OR Rapid Reload (Rapid shot does not work for Crossbows)

Opt Reg: (add any if deemed necessary)

Some ranks in Spot skill (marksmen being able to see far and make accurate shots)
Alertness (mainly for its bonus to spot)
Some Ranks in Concentration (taking steady aim with there weapon and not getting distracted)

Abilities:

Snipe (improving either damage, attack or crit chance/damage likely at the cost of all other shots/attacks for that round.)
Called shots for ranged weapon (loss of all other attacks for that round to make one accurate shot at the targets arm or leg. with slimier effects as the feat.)
Disarming shot. (loss of all other attacks for that round to make one accurate shot at the targets hand, wrist or weapon, attempting to knock it out there hand.)
Knockdown shot (reduced attack and attacks for that round to make one powerful shot with a chance to knockdown the target from the impact of the shot)

These are just some thoughts for this new PRC I had in mind. The last three abilities are roughly the same as the current available feats. Not sure if any of those feats can be used with ranged weapons.

Other players are free to voice there own opinions and ideas for this class of course.

Ask A Gamemaster / Toranite Rogues
« on: August 16, 2012, 11:33:17 pm »
I'm sure there probably are some out there though still gotta ask... how?

Rogues tend to sneak up and well... stab there enemies in the back (IE Sneak attack) So... how can a rogue truly worship Toran when there style of combat is well... not all that honorable?

Ask A Gamemaster / Vorax Alignment
« on: August 15, 2012, 08:07:55 am »
Ok, I know the gods work in mysterious ways yada yada but least I recall last time I played and looked through the deities Vorax was Neutral Good. So my question... when did he become Lawful Good? Also... What even makes him at all Lawful?

In my mind Lawfulness has mostly been the alignment of one who would mostly be a diplomat and/or negotiator and Chaotic is more the Militant/war monger. In fact alot of the time I've thought of Vorax I would think him Chaotic rather then neutral.

For instance:

Governs: Battle, War, Vigilance
Mantras: Active, Belligerent

Though he also Governs Valor and Bravery and has Honest and Ordered as his other two Mantras but all in all that would would make him at least Neutral.
