NWN Ideas, Suggestions, Requests / Improving Layonara Experience.
« on: December 09, 2012, 09:36:06 am »
Im opening up this thread to bring together people who may have some unorthodox, under-used and/or other-server-inspired ideas for improving the Layonara experience that does not necessarily require other people playing.

Presently, solo-able activities are CNR gathering, grinding, playing cards. Unfortunately, Layonara experiences a decent number of players most frequently whenever a quest is on and this to me may be because there is nothing else to do but grind a very very long, ardous and unenjoyable ladder to the next level on your way to 40, or up the CNR levelling ladder (grinding as well).

So.. has anyone got some thoughts about scripted/automated systems that could be designed and put into Layonara that allows for people to do things when others arent online and keep them entertained. Thus keeping a higher population presence on average and hopefully.. bringing in more people so that they can then group together and do stuff?

Repeatable quests (darkstorme was running a bounty hunting deal once)? Randomized spawns (yes, dangerous and perhaps not suitable since people have to put arguably too much effort into characters to get them to high levels that may then be torn away by a cruel spawn)? A different type of minigame other than basically NWN pokemon :P? Perhaps randomized events where a GM can come on, activiate a code and something bad happens to a village or something else and with a message on the forums, people can come investigate and solve the area (this would require work in advance and isnt friendly on people lacking time). Just throw your idas in and lets see if we don't come across something workable that the dev time is willing to invest time in that may improve the playing experience on a server before it goes stagnant at all times except for quest days.

General Discussion / Cobalt Soak
« on: October 22, 2012, 03:43:20 pm »
Soak damage of +2... given that Nym is now level 23, is there anything at that level or above such as sharians, great forest etc that actually has weaponry weaker than +2 so the soak effect would actually apply?

Fixed Bugs / Bank Persistent Chest
« on: October 15, 2012, 06:22:37 am »
Description: After depositing 8 chunks of Titanium ore into the Bank Persistent Chest for storage, I logged off about 2 AM this morning after having opened and closed the chest twice to re-arrange things and ensure it was working. Now 8 hours later when I try accessing the chest in Center's Craft Hall (the same place as where I stored the ore last night) I am being denied access to both chests and being told in red writing I am already using one. Not sure if  simply dont get the system or this is bugged because it seems to be the latter. I was told these were alright to use for storage.

Location: Center Craft Hall Vault section

Reproducable: Logged off and back on, no change or fix. Haven't tried a different bank yet since if I could access the chests there but not here then this place is definently bugged or it would'nt make any sense.

General Discussion / Sophos
« on: September 24, 2012, 10:23:29 am »
Thanks to the release of Sophos' update that ended up thinking everything (including itself) was spyware; otherwise known as the Shh B-Updater issue, several of my systems have been quaranteened and no longer work properly. The fix they provided may have eventually stopped sophos' continued malfunctions but it has not fixed the damage done. NWN is one of my affected programs and now has stopped working altogether.
So basically I do not know when I will be back in game; could be tomorrow, could be weeks, Im not sure so if I miss any quests im expected on. Apologies but until I find a way to fix the damage, I won't be around.

Fixed Bugs / Crafting Tools (Weapons)
« on: December 12, 2014, 09:33:47 pm »
When activating workstations such as the tailor's table it seems to take a check to destroy your tool even when not crafting anything and merely wanting to inspect what you need. It is reproduceable as it has happened before. This particular instance was a broken tailoring needle while trying to find where to craft thread.

CNR Suggestions/Discussion / Failing a Craft Roll
« on: March 11, 2012, 09:53:13 am »
Just a suggestion that came up when I was discussing the frustrations of the crafting system and why I dislike it: Why not award half the xp one would get upon success in the event of failure? Not only would it lessen the feeling of having wasted all your time and effort in running all across layonara for CNR to make something only to have it blow up in your face over a roll. It may also encourage people to craft more and make it more enjoyable knowing that there will always be some pay-off for the input of effort rather than nothing except on success. It even makes sense RPwise that one would learn NOT to do whatever they did wrong again. Learning from ones mistakes as it were

NWN Ideas, Suggestions, Requests / Bear Warrior Suggestion/Request
« on: February 14, 2012, 08:09:18 pm »
If at all possible (and not already in affect), I am wondering if the post-epic barbarian feats that require 21 levels in barbarian (such as some of the rages or barb dr feats) can be altered so that bear warrior levels count towards it as well.

The reasoning behind it is ofcourse coming from Lore, that this PrC is founded in the Barbarian tribes of the north and so, should technically count as a barbarian level. I doubt there's any physical difference between a barbarian and a bear warrior until whatever causes a bear warrior to morph takes hold. So why can't the two classes that are nearly identical count towards barbarian specific epic feats?

Ask A Gamemaster / Bear Warrior Req.
« on: February 14, 2012, 08:05:02 pm »
Once again, another question about the PrC but this time its about submission.

It does say one can become a Bear Warrior by keeping an updated journal for 2 weeks irl minimum. Or take a CDQ. Now if I was to submit a Krashinite Bear Tribe member; is RPing the trait as something passed down a bloodline or naturally developing as a blessing of the bear spirit or just whatever causes the Bear Tribe members to possess it, acceptable? I ask since I've never seen a single Bear Warrior in my timezone, or ever, that I could have a character learn from and on top of that, since there is nothing in Lore that I found explaining exactly how this ability manifests, im curious as to how one can do the journal route without having a PC 'teach' (if thats even feasible) or being forced down the CDQ path.

Ask A Gamemaster / Imp Whirlwind
« on: January 05, 2012, 04:23:13 pm »
Can someone please explain the difference about normal whirlwind striking everything within 5 feet of the character and imp whirlwind striking everything within range of his equipped weapon? Is it purely enhancing the range for polearms like spears and halberds?

Ask A Gamemaster / Surface Raids
« on: December 09, 2011, 03:53:26 pm »
Question preferably for the Loremaster or team so I be sure the answer isn't just guessing but it was mentioned that dark elves are rarely seen unless raiding the surface. Now since maps were said to be useless in the Deep im curious as to how the dark elves etc. find their way to the surface and back successfully with their slaves etc.

Magic? Well-mainted routes through the Deep that DO have maps? Guesswork? Does the Underdark's tectonic activity space out long enough for temporary maps to be drawn up when scouts find new ways up?
Not urgent info for a CDQ or anything but I am curious since my main is a darkie :P
