General Discussion / Re: About Char Creation..ing
« on: February 03, 2007, 01:58:49 pm »
Just to put my two coppers in, as a person playing a fighter, soon to be weaponmaster. *crosses fingers*

My weapon of choice is a two-bladed sword I have present stats of what 18, 15, 13, 13, 10, 8, at level 9.  I think I've upped dex and str so far, I am eventually going to make the Int 14 somewhere after 20th, or close too, and put some skill points in lore, purely for RP purposes.  The rest I haven't really planned, most likely all str.

I am comfortably 'tucked' into full plate armor, at present, but I'm more the sort that would use whatever I can get my hands on, or make.  I keep my face and tattoo's covered as much as possible, I'm a little self conscious of them, or more to the point I'm self conscious of what others think of them.   Which tends to make me grumpy when people start asking...and somewhat shy of people in general.  He's dedicated to his weapon, almost overly so because of his past, and is always looking for a better way to fight with it.  Hence why he's probably going to up his Int, he's even going to read books...

As for your question, IMO there is really no 'superior' way to make your char, honeslty I would suggest you come up with a character concept first.  Outline and history are much more important on this server than stats IMO.  After you have the concept and maybe even a few set progression goals as to where you want your char to end up, set your char stats and skills to match the outline.  But, always remember even though you set up your char to develope one way, once your in the game you might find yourself RP'n yourself in a totally different direction.  Don't set anything in stone and keep an open mind as to where your character might progress...I think you'll enjoy it more that way and that's really the important part.

I like the stitched logo idea on the front shoulder / pocket area, or even ona sleeve. I wouldn't really need more than that myself, although a slogan would be fun.  Hmm as for slogan's let's see...  Got Melph's? (Same lettering as the "Got Milk" ads of course)  Join out of curiosity...stay for the pies!!  Layonara Online: A wholeworld to A) Explore. B) Subjugate. C) Smash. Feel free to answer at www.layonaraonline.com.
T-Shirt: This is the best world ever! *bluff check* You: As if. *skill check* DM: Ok, you go to www.layonaraonline.com create a character, and have the best adventure ever!
He he, I could go on, but I need to get some sleep....

*Quickly scratched on a piece of crinkled paper, brief description of himself included*

I would be interested in a ring and an amulet of bulls strength, I am usually around the crafting halls in Hlint.

I'd be interested also, for saturdays around that time, or earlier actually.   Not sure I'd be more than a once in a while player though...

Just out of curiosity Dorg, could you give me a figure on how many CNR weapon models / appearances there are presently?  I am just curious what a ball park figure would be...

Having worn the hats of player, creator, and community leader on other games I can't think of a better system than this.  Clear rules / guidelines and open submissions.  Public approvals / denials so all are aware and nothing is behind closed doors.  What more can a player want?

General Discussion / Re: question for those who have NWN 2
« on: November 28, 2006, 06:59:42 am »
You know what, you're right, I never really thought of it until just now...as far as crashes go NWN2 hasn't crashed on me at all, not even the toolset.  Granted I have a far better machine now too, but still....it's much more stable.

I'm trying desperately to keep myself from going into the campaign again with another char to see what I missed the first time...and am I crazy for actually liking the map travel system?  I mean PW wise there is so much you can do with it, ok ok 'hypothetically' I 'think' there is alot you could do with it.

Well, aside from the fact that it would seem every map point would have to be on its own server ;)  ok so I might be kidding, but as it stands I think every town would have to be its own module if nothing else. It's just the beginning of NWN2 so who knows!!

Gotta admit I had a few Layo moments so far, stuff kinda like,

"Hey, this is probably what the Citadel would look like under the mountain.."

or

"Wow some of these henchmen are just as strange/deep as the ones people play on Layo!"

Heh, what can I say I'm gonna compare any CRPG I play from now until the end of my RP'n career to Layo I am sure...doubt anything will ever live up to the comparison though :)

I agree with some of the points made above, NWN1 came a long way from its release, and I believe 2 will also.  PW wise I am worried though, I think things will have to be stripped down even more than they are now with NWN1, in order to run a fast and heavily played server like Layonara.  Time will tell though and I'm probably going to be around long enough to find out I am worried for no reason.

After I'm done running through the SP module, several times I'm sure, I'll probably tinker with the toolset and make up a couple maps of Layonara areas...just for the heck of it, maybe I'll post some pics here to see what you all think of them ;)  Maybe we should have a little contest for fun in the new year to see who can build an area with NWN2 that comes the closest to what L thinks the area should look like he he he.

Oh and even though there isn't a radial option, hold down shift and right click on the ground ;)

Well I got it, and I really really like it, graphics wise, it's quite nice.  Silly me won some money playing poker the weekend before last so I was able to grab a new MB, vid card, and another 1GB stick of RAM.  So I basically have all the bells and whistles turned on now and it looks great.  I still get choppy when I go down on an angle that has alot of the background in it,  IE when I go to eye level, well more like anthing less than a 45 degree angle.  Oh BTW I purchased an ASUS Dual SLI ready motherboard, have 2GB of RAM total now, and a new BFG Geforce 7950 GT OC 512MB Video card.  I threw it in my old case with the P4 3Ghz chip and that is what I am playing with now. Really really need to get a good monitor now, and a fancy case....but I digress.  Still going through the SP campaign and I gotta give some cudos to Obsidian quite alot of stuff to do in it.  Alot of different characters/henchmen, I can see myself running through it a couple times to see all the different things available character/storyline wise.  It takes some getting used to the new GUI I agree, the first thing I did was remap the z key to the tab key, didn't really notice how much I use the TAB key in NWN1, really gotta cut down on that.  Also I turned on the option to keep the last thing selected as a target, really easy in fights to get people to attack the same guy that way.  Just hit spacebar right click the target guy once, and then hit spacebar left click henchmen pics, they basically all run over to the same guy, well unless you have told one of them to cast a spell or something...also just because there is only four icons showing for actions/spellcasting doesn't mean you can only select four things for the guy to do.  With the last target thing on I can quickly buff my guys, select the wizard by left clicking his pic, then right click the henchman on screen that you want to buff, left click all the spells you want him to cast...right click on the ground, right click on the next one to buff rinse and repeat....can do this the other way to by using the t or is it shift-t key/s I believe, which repeats the last action, so you can click the spell click the chars pic to cast it on, hit T and click the next pic.  Liking all the quickslots though, thinking it might be a little overkill.  But, I haven't gotten into a wizard/sorc or multiclass character yet.  Nor have I built a char with alot of useable skills or feats that would use so many slots 120 of them heh, that leaves 8 inventory slots open that you can't map to a quickslot, bastards!!

NWN Ideas, Suggestions, Requests / Re: Cleaning out Unused homes

Hmm...isn't ruins actually what they would turn into :)

"Ruins is a term used to describe the remains of man-made architecture: structures that were at one time complete but which have either been deliberately destroyed or fallen into a state of disrepair over time due to the action of weathering and lack of maintenance."

I'm just teasing...being a person who was away for a long time I would totally hate to have come back to a no house scenerio...kind of would be interesting to see some of these houses fall into ruin though.

Bioware Issues / Re: Keeps crashing in Roldem
« on: October 16, 2006, 07:44:58 am »
Gah, I have that card, and I crash all over the place.....every time I go to enter The High Forest, just outside Leilon...every bloody time, and there is NO water there.  *grumbles and starts looking for the hammer he used on his last video card*

18
Yup yup, the booting cause of logging onto the wrong server and all that works fine, all the messages were there and stuff...it's the constant crashing when I was transitioning from storans crypt to the greypeak mountains that I am confused about I mean I crashed once when I originally transitioned.  But after that trying to log back in after the crash into the greypeak mountains it just wouldn't allow me back in the game.  As far as I could see there was no reason for that, that I could find anyways....I'm sure it's some little glitch buried somewhere just not sure where...cause the logging in and out onto other servers, that I know of, really shouldn't solve a transition crash like that.  Unless somehow the original crash/transition from storans to greypeak reset something on my char so it thought I should be on another server and kept trying to kick me out but crashed my game instead.

Edit: Anyways all is good, I'm in, maybe this will help someone else later on if they have the same problem.

Well shiney water wasn't the culprit for my crashes, that I know of the first area of the Greypeaks has no shiney stuff, although I did disable it and everything else on my attempts to get around the crashes.

Everything seems good now, the resting and logging seemed to clear up whatever the problem was....

ok well I have no idea why this is happening....I uninstalled and/or reinstalled everything but windows and the game, out of complete frustration I even tried loging onto east directly...was able to load there fine, before I was booted because I should be connecting to west I know I know....but I had to try something....as far as I can tell there is nothing that should be crashing me...load screen comes up the bar zips across the bottom but then the windows crash notification pops up....I'm stuck...anyone???   Bueller??   Bueller???

Edit: I've turned all the bells and whistles off even....set everything to fast...and still no luck...
Edit: Critical rebuild did nothing either....bah!!

Edit: Ok I fixed it, probably did a big mistake but at least I'm in the game....what I did was log into east rested right away before I was booted, then logged back into west, rested again before I was booted, and then relogged into west and all was good....I'm sorry if this was a no no but I couldn't understand why I was constantly crashing, still don't know why....
