General Discussion / Blast from the Past
« on: August 02, 2019, 07:48:18 pm »
I stumbled back to the Layonara website today just to see if there was any life still around on the website.  I was pleasantly surprised to find the community, although reduced, still alive.  I was looking at my registration date, almost 15 years ago.  Wow!  Perhaps one-day the Dark Priestess will walk the world of Layonara again.  Best wishes!

Hey Buddy,

Happy Birthday.  I will sacrifice 100 Toranites in your honor!!

Unless we as a community are prepared to retire our characters after a set age, then I think keeping track of age is a bad idea.  There are a lot of "old" characters running around that would have to be retired because they are either dead of old age or so old they wouldn't be able to swing a sword.  I have a character in this same category.

So either 1) Do not keep track of age or 2) lengthen the time span so that a year of game play is longer than approx. 25 RL days.  I like #1 personnaly.

@ Lonnarin's first and original post that started this massive thread.

Lonnarin I am absolutely offended that you would use the word "good" and Chanda in the same sentence or even refer to Chanda being a good anything.  ;)

Roleplaying / Re: RP regarding the Corath Temple
« on: September 14, 2007, 12:18:26 am »
I guess its my turn to weigh in a bit on this issue and provide a bit more background since I am one of the principle contributors to the creation of this thread.

The temple of Corath on Mistone is not easily arrived at, due to mechanics and the fact that many areas on a server equates to serious lag; it was decided by myself and the GMs to place the temple where it is now.  It is out of the way and unless you are looking for it your not normally gonna stumble upon it.  This being said, I disagree with moving the temple to another location, #1 - as soon as it is moved there will be people who disregard RP and will go hunting for it, #2 - To move this temple location will take too much precious time away from the Builder staff that already is back logged with updates and changes they are bringing forth for our enjoyment, #3 - Why should the Corathites be punished so to speak by having to move thier temple because others are not RPing their characters?

Personally I can only think of two people that are non-corathites that have ever been taken or lead by mistake to the temple.  Both were part of an abduction attempt where one person was "invited" to the temple and the other followed invisible.

No Corathite will ever take you to the temple if you are not a Corathite - plain and simple.  Additionally, initiates are not taken to the temple until after they have proven their worth in the eyes of Corath and Chanda.  So don't think you are going to pull a fast one on us ;)  Also, as stated above this temple while it appears to not be guarded it does in fact have guards.  Due to an agreement that I have with Leanthar, those guards are not inplace on the server to lower lag and to prevent other problems that could arise by them being their .. namely faction issues.

CpWindancer, Polak76, and myself spent countless hours and over 2 million in gold to have this temple built, it took us over a year of saving to gain this amount of gold.  To even be allowed to have this temple I had to agree to certain provisions and terms, for example:

1 - The door will not be locked.  It is not a player house, but due to the game mechanics someone had to purchase the deed.  Thus, the deed belongs to Chanda.

In response to the Pyrotechron above, if your character were to find out the location of the temple then after a brief consultation with Chanda you may be allowed to use the font for potion making.  Here again, allies would be welcomed to the temple under normal circumstances, but due to the secrecy of the location and the implications of the temple being discovered I doubt it, use Arnax.

I appreciate the efforts of all those who have RP'd their characters IC and continue to do so.  It is what makes this game enjoyable.  If you think your character may know of the location of the temple then ask dorg or myself we can help provide you with guidance.  I speak for the whole Corathite community (except you psuedo .. we are still coming for you, oh and you too Mich, Clarrissa, and crew (not you Steel)), oh and Plen and the rest of you goody-goodies ..... sorry I digress) when I say that we have enjoyed every moment of being evil-minded and enjoy the RP you goodies bring for us.

And you who took my key ... and the other person who took my finger ... just wait until I get my other 4 fingers on you.  ;)

Bottomline - Please RP, don't ruin what CPWindancer, Polak76 and several others spent a very longtime creating.

Rhynn,

I do not know who this "Aragon" you speak of is, but perhaps if you have preconceived ideas about what you are willing to pay for each box of said items then you should post it, rather than leaving us to guess at your magical number.  Until I receive your counter offer I will await word.

If you want the Soul Mother to take a vacation then do something in game to bind her powers.  It has been done in the past.  I remember about a 3 month holiday she took due to a player CDQ.

*Chanda in passing sees the note and ponders briefly revealing where the temple to her ally lies.  Then just as quickly as the thought comes, she disregards it with a chuckle.* "If this person was indeed a devout they would already know such a thing, besides nothing in it for me."  *She continues off into the shadows of the night*

Ask A Gamemaster / Re: Donations List
« on: May 25, 2007, 02:16:06 am »
EdtheKet has a plan for the utilization of the donations.  For now I think D_Blaze is right, the GMs use it as a overall guideline for influence and waxing/wanning power of the gods.  The storyline is very much player driven if no one donates or particapates for a certain deity for extended periods you get what happened to the Baeron, his temple falls down.

General Discussion / Re: Question about NWN2 and Layo
« on: July 12, 2006, 03:39:55 pm »
Pejsaboy,

I can tell you that the GMs, Build Team, and Design Teams are working on implementing as many of the systems of Layonara 1 as they can into Layonara 2.  This being said at this time we can not confirm really too much.  The reason behind this is that we do not know what the limitations impossed by NWN2 will be.  Rest assured that L has some great ideas in store for Layo 2.  So well thought updates, fuctions and features are all in the Layo 2 future.

1)  Only a few of the deities have ever been dragons.  There are still other dieties that are not dragons.
2)  I would guess that it will take sometime to develop the main villian plot line into the world.  Just my thoughts though.  It will take time to get all the balancing and issues out and I doubt L will be too hasty in getting the plot rolling.
3) Layo 1 has political organizations that PCs participate in ... you can be rest assured that L has thought of this and has some special surprises in store.
4)  This question I have no knowledge of.

As with all aspects of Layonara, the GMs are very open to suggestions ... most of the updates are driven by player inputs and suggestions that the team turns into a reality.

General Discussion / Re: Couples on Layo..
« on: July 05, 2006, 05:12:26 pm »
I would normally leave this topic alone but I think I will weigh in on the subject matter.  Mind you this is my personal opinion and not those of the person who pays for this server.  I will probably get flamed for my comments but as I said before, they are my comments.  If others can have there comments then I should be allowed to have mine.

the original topic of this thread:  "How many on Layo that plays a female are in RL a male here on Layo? And How big are the difference between male and female players. Is it about 10% female players and the rest are males?"

First I will roger up that I play a female character on Layonara.  I play a female because I think they are more challengeing to RP; they are more complex and more difficult to RP properly.  Now some of the female players will disagree that woman aren't more complex than males ... from my standpoint they are ... and I am not being sexist when I make that comment ... its a compliment.

Now for the topic that has evolved from the intent of the initial question, Homosexuality in Layonara.  From day one this has been classified as a "Family Friendly" server.  To me that means I can let my children play on this server with out fear that they are going to be introduced to "adult themes".  If Layonara becomes a place were Homosexuality and other Sexual themes become commonplace then I for one will not stay on this server.  You may say good riddance ... Aragon (Chanda) has been a pain and is a horrible RPer.  That would be your opinion.  But I do not think that I am alone in saying that these themes should be excluded from Layonara.  My personal opinion is that homosexuality is wrong, not-natural, and against all laws of nature.  Just because society has deemed it trendy to be homosexual does not change my opinion.  Before I go any further with this rant I will end it by saying ... if lesbianism and homosexuality become a part of Layonara then I will no longer be a part of Layonara.
