Character Submissions / Re: Alec the Mute: Resubmit for Wizard Levels
« on: April 09, 2024, 07:20:47 pm »
Recall that in NWN, unlike actual D&D, caster levels do not stack, so he would be, for instance, a 13th caster level for Cleric, and a 7th caster level for Wizard, but not a 20th level caster overall. You may know this already, and it's not necessarily pertinent to player rules here, but going backwards is harder than going forward in terms of approval, so I just want you to be sure this is the path you want to go.

Since you acknowledge that you must have at least five levels in each class before 20th, Aragen and Lucinda have a neutral standing with each other, Aragen has no specific multiclassing restrictions, and Wizard is a starting class, you are approved to take levels in Wizard.

Ask A Gamemaster / Re: Restoration/Greater Restoration
« on: April 09, 2024, 07:08:37 pm »
I'd say there is definitely some interpretation, but I'd say it would depend on the injury, the source of the injury, and the nature of the magic used to restore it. Greater Restoration can fix most things, up to certain powerful curses and such.

I'd say it could restore his ability to speak, though it may be fun to explore the situation that leads to the his regaining the ability to use his vocal chords and how that works out afterwards- the experience of speaking again after so many years.

You could request a short CDQ from a GM, or just maybe schedule an non-GMed event for other PCs to be part of the journey to recover his ability to speak (so you don't have to wait for a GM). Then you'd have a story to tell about it when he got his voice back. Alec's New Groove.

Ask A Gamemaster / Re: Help, Mime cleric stuck in balcony.

Thanks to willhoff for the save! I just now saw this post, like two days later, heh.

@55060hacker, don't hesitate to ping me or another GM on Discord when you get stuck IG. We may or may not be able to pop in game right at that second, but I'll certainly hop on as soon as I can. I'm on Discord pretty much all the time thanks to the phone app, but I only remember to check the forums every few days, heh.

Good evening!

A few quick housekeeping things.

What level is Alec currently, and what is his class breakdown? I.E. 15th level, Cleric 10/Fighter 5.

Second, do you intend to go back and forth between wizard and cleric levels, or is it wizard from here on out?

Character Submissions / Re: Character Submission - Reyne Sun-Badger

First, per https://wiki.layonara.com/wiki/Prestige_Class_Submission_Requirements, you'll need to resubmit for Sacred Fist when you're ready to take levels in it. Keep in mind you need at least five levels in any class taken before level 20.

Second, you are approved to play a Brownie with the Cleric class.

Third, see here for more info and the subrace code for Brownies: https://wiki.layonara.com/wiki/Brownie. If you have any issue applying the subrace, let us know.

Fourth, have fun! Looking forward to seeing the little lady in-game.  :)

Character Submissions / Re: Character Submission - Monk
« on: March 29, 2024, 08:49:23 am »
I greatly appreciate your understanding, mate. There are only a few of us left that keep this place running, so we just can't always get things done as fast as we'd like.

This character is approved.

Be aware that some interaction with other PCs and NPCs may be strained due to dark elf history. Obviously we can't always portray this IG without a GM online, play it up as much as you want. Also note that Port Hempstead actively attempts to prevent dark elves entry into the city, so stick to Fort Vehl and Marinor's Hold for crafting.

This page here has more Layo-centric information and the subrace codes: https://wiki.layonara.com/wiki/Dark_Elf

Also let us know if you have trouble with the subrace codes working to apply the dark elven properties. Since moving to EE, sometimes we experience hiccups.

Hi, StormChaser.

After some discussion, I think we'll just need a confirmation from you that you understand the surname "T'sarran" is a common/non-noble name, and that it's not tied to any literary origins or have significant similarities to characters with said name from other PWs like Forgotten Realms.

I promise I'll have a legitimate reply for you tomorrow. Real life keeps delaying the GM discussion, but you've been incredibly patient, and deserve to be able to move forward with this character ASAP.

Approved. I love the mention of the bindstone as the added dimension to the classic character trope of underestimated underdog.

Bug Reports / Re: Scribing Greater Stoneskin
« on: March 13, 2024, 12:24:54 pm »
Last I checked, and I'm not sure the source of this, but the Layo version of Greater Stoneskin (which soaks up to 200 points of damage, while the vanilla only soaks up to 150) has Abjuration listed in the school instead of Transmutation. But you are correct that the vanilla NWN spell is Transmutation, and the scroll is the vanilla NWN scroll.

Important Layonara Announcements / EXCITING COMMUNITY ANNOUNCEMENT
« on: March 07, 2024, 02:20:04 pm »
1) Until further notice, exotic/restricted species/subspecies are open to submit new characters, with one exception...
2) Half races will no longer be approved (this does not apply to the one submission still in progress) due to the minimum age they would be at point of submission. This includes half orcs, half elves, and half giants.
3) The max number of characters per player has been increased to 10.

If you've had an idea for a new character, now's a good time to give it a go! Remember that some species/subspecies require a bit more backstory than your average, say, human fighter.

Just as a heads up, we'll be responding to this very soon, and we do apologize for the significant delay.

After review, this is approved.

Just a reminder that you need at least five levels of the Fighter class (which you indicated you plan to take six levels, so we're good there), and the precedent is to take the first five levels of Fighter consecutively.

See you in game!

General Discussion / Re: Character Development - State of CDQ and WLDQ
« on: January 04, 2024, 10:09:11 pm »
Given that there isn't a major world plot happening right now, I would definitely say that there are other ways of going about showing a character to have an impact on the world. These ways can of course include everything from journals and RP logs to any manner of quest involvement to CDQs designed to build toward something bigger. I would also definitely say being active in the community (which you are, Chuck) is a factor.

And let's face it. We do this stuff for the love of the characters and the world they inhabit, and subsequently for the stories that our characters both make and take part in. So any chance we get to play at those stories, I definitely vote that we take them.

For my part, at the end of February, I catch a break from coaching for about four months, so I plan to schedule and run some quests, and I'd just as soon build those quests around one of your character's ambitions as anything else.

Great question! All development quests are still available. You can apply for them on the forums just like in the past. Once approved then it's just a matter of coordinating with an active GM to schedule and run the quests.
