Bug Reports / GMW and Eschew I

Bug Report

Description: Even though my character (Liasanya Whisperwind) has Eschew I, she still needs powdered carbon to cast the spell GMW (innate level 3, sorc also 3). With Eschew I, which negates spell components for spell levels 1-3, I should not need said component.

Location: Probably everywhere

Verified:

Reproducable: It happened on several occasions.

I realize this is different from what we did in the past and that we had a level 17 requirement (even though I am not able to find this at the moment, so am wondering where it was written).

Dunno where it was written on the Forums, but if you have a backup of the old things the town criers were shouting you'll find it there ;)

Sorry for causing the confusion about Rodlin and Enzo with being Commander of the Woods. I got something wrong there *flushes*

And I am asking myself when the level requirement was dropped. Back when Dorena joined there still was one in place and even the town criers said in an occ note that one had to be level 17 to join. Just curious.

Hey there,

as far as I know there are three players with the Wolfswood Ranger Corps. Enzo, Rodlin and Dorena. Rodlin and Dorena both joined them by a CDQ. I think it required lvl 17. At least the Town Criers once stated you needed to be a lvl 17 ranger quite some time ago.

I am not sure how it works these days, but back then you had to take a CDQ to join them. I am sure either twidget or I can be of assistance if you have any questions and want to ask about the Corps IG.
As far as I know Rod is now Commander of the Woods so he probably is your best bet.

I hope this helps :)

Ask A Gamemaster / Re: Greater restoration and Eschew III

Eschew III always worked for me on Greater Restoration and never had any XP removed ... I'd have lost all my XP while playing Valaria *winks*

So unless it was changed in 2009 you should be fine.

*Dorena hands her beloved husband Jacchri a cup of tea while they sit in the canopy of their tree in Vale and watch the daily life in Vale. After a long moment of silence Dorena sighs softly and softly takes Jacchri's hand.*

"It saddens my heart to see what happened, dear"

"I know, my love", as he kisses her softly on her forehead. "I knew the woman who was killed. She was a fair woman..."

"So you know more women besides me?", she makes a face, teasing him.

He chuckles softly: "But no one of them matches your grace and you know how much I love you, my dear."

Dorena smiles softly at him: "I know. But it seems like the White Wolf of Folian S'Pae and his lovely wife, the 2nd lieutenant Abianca of the Wolfswood Ranger Corps should investigate in this matter like in the old days, huh?"

"Maybe my dear, but I love our quiet life and the visits of our friends.", he whispered into her ear.

Dorena tightens her grip on his hand and nods quietly. "I just don't wish anyone harm in this lovely village. It is our home after all.."

He softly taps her lower lip with his index finger to indicate her to be silent. "I know, my dear. We will see to it tomorrow."

With a soft sight she curls up on his lap while he is humming a symphony of the woods...

Ask A Gamemaster / Re: Deity Flags
« on: October 22, 2009, 11:12:08 am »
It is something only GMs can use ;)

If a player uses it, nothing will happen, unless you are a GM avatar and use a flag. Basically the GMs can set a deity with a flag right, or change the deity of ones character.

I hope this helps.

Ask A Gamemaster / Re: Question about quest..
« on: September 22, 2009, 06:40:10 am »
Not being an active GM here, but once upon a time I was, believe me or not *winks*

Sometimes GMs get flooded with requests, rolls, whatever and sometimes it is really really hard to keep track of it and answer all in time and I have to admit sometimes the GMs might miss something. The larger the group is the harder it is to keep track in general.

Back when I was GM could poke me for anything they wanted, might it be just some clarification or a roll. What I wrote in my quest rules was that you have to RP your roll and let me know via GM-Channel what you want to do.

Every action by a player will be read in general and it really happens that GMs might miss one emote from time to time. Hey, mere humans like anyone else after all ;)

What I used to do when things got really messy .. I said //Hold a moment guys, sorting out your flood of requests...

If you don't get a reply for some time. I doubt they will bite ones head off if you ask them if they missed it or whatever. At least I never did.

Roleplaying / Re: How do you deal with... MIA's discussion
« on: September 22, 2009, 06:29:51 am »
Oooh I can give you an example! .... Or at least I think I can. Just take Dor and Jacc. Both are hardly seen around anymore due to busy lives of their players. As they are related (the chars!) it is pretty simple to tell others why they disappeared all of a sudden.
1. Family
2. Dor busy with the Wolfswood Ranger Corps
3. Jacc running around the Woods (White Wolf of Folian)
4. Both are taking their time off, enjoying the long walk in the woods somewhere on Layonara.

There are several reasons why one disappeared all of a sudden IG. It pretty much depends on the character. Do you know said char well? It could be the other char hails from a farmers family and his father died so he had to take his place for the time being.

And ditto to what Script already said. Even adventurers have other things to do than just being out on adventures. Some have families, are occupied, ecetera, ecetera ;)

Back when Jacc and Dor still had their toddlers around we simply said one was taking care of Lythar and Lysira when only one was around for some time.

Dor's friends know she is usually busy with the Corps and therefore tell others if one asks where she might be that she is with the Corps. Some expedition or whatever.

It is easy to RP out if your char knows the other well :)

Just my two cents...

Not an official say here, but I think it depends on the diety forum moderator. I know some forums have several mods who approve such requests and therefore are usually slightly faster when it comes to these requests. I know I used to check it for the Folianite Forum at least once a week so no player had wait for too long.

Right now minerva is handling like all diety forums at once.

For the time being I am the group leader of all the deity forums but I will be passing this duty off to various clerics within particular faiths.

Maybe this should happen to save minerva some time? I am sure there are some clerics around who would volunteer to manage the diety forums? :)

Also, how many rangers do you know who actually made past level 21 beside emy, your char and rodlin? That are still active and not perm and actually took that epic feat?

Well how many chars go straight ranger? ;) There are some close to epicness. There are just not as many rangers around as other classes, always keep that in mind.

And nope, I did not get you wrong about replacing just one FE level but as I already said in my post above *points up* It will delay Bane of Enemy by 5 levels as you only get a new FE once every 5 levels and you need 5 FE for that nifty feat ^^

But well, this issue is resolved now anyway ;)

Playing a ranger for more than 4 years now I think and I don't mind the use of components at all and I would not the need of no components and sacrifice Favored Enemy. Favored Enemy is something only granted to rangers and is part of something a ranger focused his/her training about. Also keep in mind you need 5 different FE to actually make Bane of Enemies choosable on Epic levels. So one would need at least 25 ranger levels before getting that feat. Just to mention a slight drawback if one would sacrifice FE for not needing any spell components any longer.

The question if a spell is really necessary always depends on ones char. Dor never really used Freedom as a spell given what the spell grants you it is worth a little True here and there. Some spells also were changed for rangers so they would not need a certain item. Bless was made to Ranger's Valor and does not require a holy symbol anymore. While some certainly follow a diety not every ranger has to and why wear something you would not ICly?

Well, it is another matter with other spell components, like birch bark or topaz dust. Twisted leather strip is about fine as well. Rangers more or less need a "focusing object" for the one or other spell. Even though you did not want to bring up the issue that rangers are not really spellcasters. Well they are not. The spells only help them little to survive better or fade into shadows and would not focus all too much on how to avoid using spell components.

Well, just my two cents as a ranger for more than 4 years already.
