General Discussion / I also think the server is
« on: January 25, 2014, 11:12:10 pm »

I also think the server is seasoned, but I will say that the RP is never old. When I'm having slow days at work, I'm always thinking about my most memoriable RP moments and experiences, and I will never forget them! Actually, I desire more of them!

Here's my Bucket List for my favorite character who I've RPed and built to be what I wished I could be, I've infused a lot of my personality into him and I will miss him (when that time comes).

1. Gather Two Halves and a Pint back together for another show.

2. Gaining the ability to beat True Seeing.

3. Open his bakery.

4. Achieve two more levels to be Epic Rogue and Epic Shadowdancer.

5. Prove that a having a rogue in the party is better than having a pixie!

6. Die at a ripe old age (preferably in a heroic manner) among his friends. (He always said he'd live to see 300!)

All I can think of right now, I might end up thinking of a couple later on I'll edit in. ;)

General Discussion / Is Port 5122 my computer's
« on: October 08, 2013, 10:59:37 pm »

Is Port 5122 my computer's ports or is it what I type into Direct Connect?

Edit: I found Lonnarin's post with the same problem,  and it has the answer I need. I should have did my research first. Thanks Dorg! :)

Roleplaying / Re: Food for thought: Stealth
« on: December 29, 2012, 07:45:47 pm »
I think Shadowdancer has to be my favorite class, I have not had as much fun playing any other of my characters than I have had with Tod. I like how you mentioned about being seen but seen as harmless, but I think that is more of a charismatic skill. I would think that you are thinking a little too into this, mainly because some players, even myself at moments, like to get the ball rolling in quests and adventures. To be that detailed in the game might make questing feel little cumbersome to some. When I play Tod and I'm trying to type an elaborate description of what he is doing, then more often than not, someone else well jump in with a simple *Goes into the room, doing his/her best to remain quiet and out of sight*.

I also really like how you mentioned all the different aspects to stealth, not only on the variables such as your gear and skill, but also other skills the enemy might have such as: hearing, smell, and sight. There are so many variables that the possibilities are endless, but in a quest where multiple players (often players who have children) commit to a quest, having one person incorporating all mentioned variables in their actions would consume a lot of time. That is only one person, if all players who were of the sneaky sort were to do the same thing, then progress could be really slow going.

Even the point you made about a warrior in full armor, that is very much true! Perhaps not everything should be about the roll of dice, but rather on the creativity you mentioned and playing outside of the restriction presented by a given number of points in a given skill. I would think to use very detailed emotes in journals and in game when things are very time restricted.

I know I might not have answered your questions or offered advice that you might find useful, but you really gave me food for thought, and even ideas on how to RP in the future. : )

Development Journals and Discussion / Re: A Fellow's Journal

*Tod walks by his wash basin's mirror but suddenly stops. He back pedals and places his hands on either side of the sink and puts his face in close to the mirror. His black eyes scan over his face, taking in the crow's feet, the laugh lines around his mouth, and the thick head of black hair that is becoming heavily speckled with graying strands. Tod frowns a little, one corner of his mouth pulling back in a skeptical manner. He looks down at his right hand to a ring carved of wood and etched with leaves and figures of the forest, then back up to the mirror, thinking. He smiles a bit at a distant memory and shakes his head, using his fingers to pull the skin around his eyes taunt to see how wrinkles are developing.*

Gettin' bags old man.

*Tod mutters and pushes away from the basin, looking around his room that is furnished with wooden furniture scaled to fit him and his taller friends. His floors are laden with various furs and a fire is built in the fireplace. His walls have several shelves lined with numerous trinkets. Some of his favorites being his Hurix medal, a flower that had been encased in a protective spell, dragon scales, his drach fang, and his bag of marbles. He reaches up to another shelf to find the stick he had been whittling and climbs into his favorite cushioned chair. He pulls a knife from his sleeve to work on what seems to be a bow in hands of a petite Halfling woman. He finishes the details in little over an hour and he places the figure onto his side table that already has figures standing next to the candle. One appears to be a short and rather round dwarf carrying a fiddle, another is a large dire wolf, two look like knights with one having a feminine stature. Both are holding shields with the Anhk of Toran. Another figure has a big bushy mustache and wielding two shortswords and a mischievous smirk. Among the rest of his whittlings and upon closer examination, the other figurines look like several members of a group locally known at the Angels. He looks fondly over his work but picks the Halfling woman up again to finish with details, including the wolf emblem of Folian, and sets her beside the wolf and dwarf. He slides out of his chair and digs into a chest, pulling a thick, old journal from the depths. Its leather bindings refinished numerous times with some of the finest hides Tod could find. Tod climbs back into his seat and fondly flips through the pages, a slight look of depression settles on his battle and weather worn face. With a small half-hearted sigh, he reads his memories through the night until he eventually slumps low in the high backed chair and drifts to sleep to the sounds of the fire crackling in the fireplace.*

Thanks everybody! :D I try to log in every once in a while and will continue to pop on, things are just developing in life and ever since BF3, MW3 and Skyrim came out, my gaming time is occupied... I'm glad people think of me time to time, I do miss my Layo buddies. :)

I'm always scared of taking out a chunk of my beard too. I have a cheap $16 beard trimmer, nothing fancy but it does what I want it to do, but never trust those plastic adjustable razor-length attachments! ;)

Ask A Gamemaster / Re: Reason for Staff Sizes
« on: March 04, 2011, 01:23:42 pm »
I don't suppose there is a real mechanical reason why to produce a second version aside from wanting to purchase a staff that will actually help with anything. The staffs available are pointless to carry around, the reasons why are mentioned above. Since the staff in question has the regeneration effect, it only makes RP sense for a druid would want it, but mechanically, it would be the most helpful staff I think that avaliable. I was about to buy the staff from another player and I was pretty excited, but ended up having to decline the purchase because the item wasn't usable. If this is a possible situation in order to make a different version, I would be willing to pay even extra in order to have it created.

Ask A Gamemaster / Re: Reason for Staff Sizes
« on: March 04, 2011, 12:30:48 pm »
Why should it be made? I think anyone could take a normal sized quarterstaff and have it shortened to their liking, part of the IG customization yet not much can be done with the size limitations when using the customization benches. In terms of wands? They're short as it is and can't be adjusted, you make a wand any bigger than it is then it would just be a staff. It was just a suggestion and viewing of what could be done.

I see what ycleption's saying. But is there a way to produce a second version of the "quarterstaff" size category into a "magic staff" size category? I'm not sure how much trouble that would take but was curious.
