Funny .... I thought the biggest mistake in the crafting system was that "malting" not only required skill .... but also happened instantly.

Making wine instantly is even worse.

CNR Suggestions/Discussion / RE: a proposal for new musical instruments
« on: October 27, 2006, 11:49:47 am »
In the real world, being a good maker of instruments and being a good player of instruments are mutually exclusive.

It takes very different skill sets and very different application all life long of those skill sets.

Fine instrument makers will usually know how to play the instruments they make at a basic level, but they will defer to players to really test and refine them, and when you buy a high end instrument you work together with the maker or a skilled repairman to get it just the way you want it.

This is presumably what bugs oldbear, and it bugged me at the beginning too.

But some things have to be simplified to make a game, and I kind of think we can all just live with the bard rule for instrument crafting so as not to complicate our developers' lives.

There's a whole lot of stuff they could work on that would enhance our game pleasure more - like new instruments, even...

Note that you don't have to be a good bard to be as good as you want to be at instrument crafting, there is no level check as far as I know. As long as you have one level in bard (and server rules say, eventually five as time goes by), after that it's a question of your application to developing the crafting. So, that's not so different from saying the instrument crafter knows about music and knows how to play the instruments he makes, just isnt a virtuoso. But you do have to be serious enough about this craft to define your character around it, and that doesn't seem like a bad thing - I'm not quite sure what Acacea was saying there but I'm thinking maybe that's it?

Hmmm. I already have a number of essences ready that I would part with, if you're looking for what I think you are.

"Medicinal purposes, ha! I hope nobody helps this scoundrel."

Sen Stranzini scrawls "NO TO POISON" on the note in great big letters, shakes his head and walks away.

Well, if you're a good person, I could help you out too. Are you a good person? I'll want to know what you're planning on doing with the arrows.

I remember! It was the great gnomish spider killer!

I think the argument about the druids using poison makes a lot of sense, its a natural product.

I dont buy the argument about chaotic good characters using it though. My character is chaotic good, and I think the "good" part needs to mean something...the way I play it I think poison is "bad" (as opposed to good) and has nothing to do with "chaotic" or "lawful". Sen told me to say that poison is a nasty, "bad" - evil - thing that only bad people use, anybody with "good" in their alignment shouldn't be going near it. The chaotic part is about your attitude to "rules" that don't have an immediate or evident bearing on goodness or evilness, not about things you could judge for yourself are evil.

Hello Mr. Rufus Sir,

Sen still uses his room. He would be happy to pay you the back rent owed. (He might have to work a little to get all of it together.) But his owner is currently away on vacation and does not have Layo access for another week or so.

I kind of think we could give the needed cash without ingame payback but if there are enough people who need that encouragement...

I don't see any balance problem if there should appear in the new system in the middle of the future Hlint or whatever a "Statue of the Forgotten Soldier in the Battle against Blood" with an inscription that read "To those who made it possible for us to be here today..." and listed the names of those who contributed to the server fundraising drive and wanted their contribution acknowledged in game...

Just an idea.

Its been a while since I made a donation, I'll go do one right now.

Leanthar, I second the motion that you just communicate to us, say on a regular once a month basis, how much donation you received in the last month and how much you paid out. I think there is more than enough good will from the community here to keep this going, we just forget or don't have a perspective on what is needed and need a little more concrete hint to prod us...

Just a stickied topic where you post once a month the situation and that would jog us all when it came around once a month. I can't believe you would not get more than a good enough response.

Eventually maybe how many individuals donated and how many dollars, and how many people played in the last month...those would be the three numbers that should make everybody think just a second and do the right thing, based on their individual means but in recognition of how we can keep this going.

Then this annoyance about the ad click problem would just be an annoyance.

And whether or not you get the first helmet after delivering all the weapons to Fort Llast depends perhaps on your "first" player class?

Sen cant get this quest either, although he is level ten.

He never got the first helmet although he did all the errands. I assume this is because he is a rogue - although he is multi-ed as bard and can actually use a helmet. Anyway, he never got the first helmet.

Does Kit look for the first helmet before giving the second quest?

Fixed Bugs / Re: Minotaur Shaman AI- Northpoint

Well, this might shed some light on something I never quite figured out.

The day Sen did this trip, he got chewed up by those axes. It was like there was a big red bulls eye painted on him. And he was in the back with his bow where he belonged. Every axe had Sen's name on it.

If level ten rogue/bard is considered high level and level a little-less-than-that fully armored and buffed fighters in the front line are not...then I finally understand why it seemed like they just were not targetting anybody but Sen. It was Sen who had to ask for the quest, so the others, except probably Pig, must have been levels less than ten. Nasty AI if that's how it was working.

Killed him dead twice over for the good old mega xp penalty for getting killed again when he hadnt recovered from being raised the first time.

But they werent just standing there letting themselves get killed, I promise you that.

Have I overlooked something or is there no kitchen on all of Rilara? I vaguely think maybe there was one at Stone before it was taken, I was only there once.

If I've overlooked one, just tell me I've overlooked one of course.

"Tumble? That's an odd image for a dignified servant of god. Hmmm...makes me want to write a ballad, the ballad of the tumbling cleric. Let's see, how should it go..."

Mr Cymeran, I rather suspect that might have been me who left a couple of phenelopes on the bench. Don't worry about it, you can keep them as far as I'm concerned. And I am ready to join you as a member of your scatter-brained economy club, I think I'm qualified.
