Development Journals and Discussion / Re: Gladyus Reports
« on: July 10, 2010, 08:13:46 pm »
Gladyus stood motionless in the dank cave, the stillness occasionally punctuated by a drip of water falling from a stalactite into a pool below. This was his new life, training in stillness. Gone was his presence from the chiselled perfection of Prantz. He no longer trained facing the fine mahogany desk and the polished floor that was Master Taazk’kazja’s office. He had given much for this, more then was reasonable. He had subjected himself:to the venom of countless underdark spiders, to the fists of a horde of giant kin, to the searing light of the sun, to the taunts of inferior surface races, and to torture and ridicule by his own kind.

Now it was his. Gladyus felt the strength of the Adamantine one flow through his limbs. The strength of earth and rock. The strength of stillness. The stillness brought peace and fury. It demanded immediate release, yet was timeless in its patience, awaiting, brooding, yet ready for action.

He had been given a mission, where success had required him to fail, to fall from grace. He had been brought as low as possible, yet the path to dizzying ranks had opened before him. Like the earth he had been given the task of patience and humility, accepting the insults carved into his skin. On the surface patient and still. At the core a terrible heat burned. Awaiting its moment of release and retribution for every insult rendered.

The invisible watcher smiled a hidden smile as Gladyus stood still and silent. Finally his student had taken the first step of the path.

In the next screen Maran is a smoke spot of incidental damage from the magical energies unleashed.  It was an awesome battle.

It seems to be that one of the headings, when menus aren't functioning, is returning a link that's invalid, but I wanted to get confirmation that that's the case.

Hi Dorg,

Yes this is correct. The menu link New Players does not work.  It gives the error shown above. The links to the left New Posts does work. The other menu links don't give error messages. Though they may not work exactly as intended.

Master Windsbreath,

With regard to your advertised clock for sale. I offer, 11,000 true coin.

I would also like to meet with you regarding the value of gems: diamond, sapphire, alexandrites that I provided to you for your crafting.  I have further goods and bounties from Rael Kingdom, including some fine panther pelts.

I am sure we will be able to come to some mutually beneficial arrangement.

You know, this list would make a great series of quests.

Best of all its already in Layo lore.

To the Dwarves: Griff, Zig and Gunder.  Jacrum had a great time showing you how to make "giont head soup", battling giants, and touring you around the runic anvil clan home. Thanks for bringing the dwarves to life.

"Oi Deadshot! Did yer hear who won der prize?" asked the short one.

"It was a lassie and a gobbo!" he continued.

"You foolish cretin, the prize should have been ours" replied the tall one.

"Never the less the experience must have been troubling. I overheard them talking about trolls and their cooking pots. Perhaps it was for the best that we didn't attend."

Milty offered quivering palm for comparison, it has a DC of 10 + 1/2 (class) level + Wis modifier. The key though is that it's tied to a stat which does not provide an attack bonus
[\\quote]

I would suggest that using the Monk formula would be fair for a once a day ability. So yes it would start off weaker, but end up stronger. Which stat? Even wisdom makes sense.

Otherwise use something like DC 20+1/3 AA level

"Deadshot! Oi got it!" the short one remarks his voice raised in excitement as he waves a small red token in front of the tall ones nose.

"Keep your voice down you imbecile and remember don't call me that" snaps the tall one snatching the token out of his hand.

"Ahh so that is the location" he examines the front of the token.

Turning it over he reads the back, "one token per person".

"Well you had better go find another one."

"Oi! Give it back der token's mine!"

The short one tackles the tall one sending him sprawling to the ground.  The token flying from his grasp and disappearing into a nearby gutter. The two men scuffle on the ground of the alley, while the token is forgotten in the heat of the battle.

It falls into a nearby gutter and floats away in a stream of effluent, waiting to be found by another seeker of the Prize.

// The tokens are out in the world waiting to be found //

Introduce Yourself / Re: Hiya every boooooody~ Muti-class?
« on: June 01, 2010, 05:23:24 am »
Welcome!

I think it is worth while to attempt a challenging character.

One was to do this is to start with a character story (using lore) and then pick the build you think will be useful.

Its always good think of weaknesses as a way of adding flavour to any character.  For example your Deep Dwarf/Barbarian/Ranger/Battle Rager may have a short temper and a weak will... flying off the handle.  Or he may be simply very dense effectively a dumb-grunt that is fanatically loyal to Rael. Though mechanically barbarian+battlerager (without ranger) would be the better build.  If this was a TN character it would fit well with the current world Lore of Rael Kingdom and could be approved on submission.  Perhaps as a former (or current) solider of the Prantz army.

The wizard/palemaster/paladin 'aka guardian of necromancy' may lack charisma, being hideously deformed by his long association with undead, before converting to a paladin of Lucinda and thus be a poor paladin.  I think starting off as pure wizard, then attempting palemaster, then paladin would be the most sensible RP path.  You should remember to be flexible as this would be a multi-year RP commitment without guarantee of success.

Cheers,

Stragen

// If your character has contacts with the underworld and would have heard these rumour you are welcome to attend.

General Discussion / Re: The Dwarven Army
« on: May 29, 2010, 03:12:51 am »
Jacrum will obviously support any Dwarven organisation.  As to membership this is something I would consider.  But he doesn't get a huge amount of play time.  If it really is going to be an army it should have some structure.  Ranks and the like. JAcrum is a member of NPC military organisation.  I also like what Argali has been doing in Lor.  The Bloody Gate makes me think of Varka...

Ask A Gamemaster / Re: How summoned shadow it treated in Layonara?
« on: May 12, 2010, 06:53:42 am »
I think it depends on the character (and the player interpretation).  The most common place to find shadow like creatures (other then summons) is with hordes of undead in crypts and the like.  These creatures typically have a very nasty 'negative energy / drain ability' type of attack.

Re: Termination of Services

Former Initiate Gladyus Rockface
C/O
Order of Strength
Adamantine Brotherhood
Prantz

Mr Rockface,

It is without regret, and considerable pleasure, that I must inform you that your employment with Adamantine Brotherhood has been terminated effective immediately.

I would like to make it clear to you that this termination a result of your continued failure to complete assigned missions and uphold the laws of Rael. During your recent assignment to Ambassador Bradikus you failed to follow a direct instruction from the Ambassador. Pathetic whining that this instruction conflicted with a previous legal contract is of no interest to the Ambassador or the Rael Administration. Your failure was allowing yourself to be manoeuvred into such a position of conflict.

In fact your performance has been woeful and your contribution over the three decades of employment insignificant.

It is with much regret that I am legally obligated to provide a severance package for you, and you will be paid one months pay for every year you worked, and your medical and clerical coverage will continue for the period of the severance pay.

Yours Broodingly,

Brother Ridgeley
