Fixed Bugs / Re: Fort Vehl to Leringard Docks

The other option is to consider the docks in PH as "outside the city walls"  - think a bit like being on the international side of customs at an international airport (not in the US where you have to enter the country even in transit)

int save rather than will save.

Also wielding a Stephen Hawking is +4 to Int, but -10 to Dex

CNR Suggestions/Discussion / Re: Pearls

There is another use for them that will be appearing with a future system. I regret I can't say anything else other than they are used in a new CNR recipe.

One other question...The underground hut-type houses in Prantz. What's the initial size for those, and can one add lower levels? Just want to see what your limits are on remodeling.

Thanks again!

Ok the size of one of those houses is 4 x 6.

Houses can only be one area. However within the area you can add as many floors as you can fit.

A housing remodel cost a minimum of 1/3 of the purchase price. This is the fee if you keep the basic structure of the house in tact, but add say a couple of stud walls.

You can increase the area of the house interior but this costs big bucks. Probably several times the initial purchase price.

In addition you can also change the exterior of the house, but this becomes silly money. the last quote I did for someone where the house exterior wanted to be changed was 1 million True, on a 65k house.

You need the Layo TLK file - http://www.layonara.com/local_links.php?action=jump&id=16&catid=3

You also need the Layo Haks in the correct order in your module:

 layo_controlV3.rar
 layo_miscV3.rar
 layo_tilesBV3.rar
 layo_placeV3.rar
 layo_final2_V3.rar
 layo_final1_V3.rar
layo2_extra_v1
layo2_update_v1
layo2_crea_v2
layo2_art_v6
layo2_misc_v1

It certainly helps the house re-modellers if you send you them an area to work with.

Remember the re-modelling cost increases a crazy amount if you change the tileset.

Also adding placeable is frowned upon - this is due to server performance issues

Not really sure if that is poor grammar. I believe it is a valid bit of writing if not  the current modern way of doing it.

It will be fixed if I ever get round to it.

Another question related....

How a Voraxite would relates to someone following Kitharien?

According to the chart, Vorax is friendly to Kitharien... but Kitharien is enemy to Vorax? How is that possible in the first place? Same with Vorax and Goran. Vorax is enemy to Goran but Goran is friendly with Vorax? How my voraxite cleric should react when a Goranite come up to him greeting him friendly like and all?
Well the Chart isn't in balance, just as it possible in RL for one person to like another more than they like you (i.e I have this thing for Minnie Driver, but she has this restraining order......)

Quote
Another thing... I guess that behind God relationship as shown on that handy chart, there is/must be a reason. Now what would be interesting is to know it too, not simply like, aah yes... Vorax hates Goran... I'll just shund and dislike all Goranites.
Think personalities here. Goran is a peaceful minded happy little chap. His mind is always elsewhere thinking about gear ratio's or what happens if you add brimstone to frationally distilled beer. War to Goran is a place where you go and get depressed because the ways of killing are so primitive. Gorans idea of a good get together is sitting down and discussing the intricacies of the universal joint and, "Did you hear what the gnome in Lor has made? no? Let me draw you diagram..."

Now look at Vorax. Honour, bravery and the battle field. And not some chaotic battle field. Tactics, moving evenly packed squads of heavily armoured dwarves to pre defined positions to do the maximum damage. Vorax is no day dreamer, he is an astute commander who understands the battle field and the glory and honour to be won upon it.

So when Goran wanders up and says, "Look I have a cool new weapon. Look I call it the Breech Army Knife and it has 250 different tools as well as knife, even one for getting scouts out of horses hooves. Once the smiths have perfected it, it will probably weigh less than 400lbs and we will be able to loose the cart that currently comes with it." Vorax gets annoyed. The battle field is the place for cold hard steel and not this daft stupid idea. And where is the honour in using that nasty flame-thrower device Goran invented?

Remember the gods tend not to be balanced individuals. Their lives are focussed on their portfolios and their portfolios define their personalities and attributes. So the gods hate what is against their personalities and portfolios

Part of the issue is that too many people seem to confuse neutral with unfriendly or seem to lack in knowledge with how their deity stands with another god.

Now I will use Mist as an example. Because DMOE plays a Misty as do I and she appears to be a much maligned deity.

There appears to be an almost universal dislike of Mist and the perception that she is an evil goddess. Mist is not an evil deity. She is definitely chaotic and it has to be said pretty uncaring about the peoples of Layonara. But the storm that sinks a ship can also bring rain to parched farmland and thus save the harvest for many and as result be beneficial to far more people than were harmed by the storm.

Now certainly the followers of the law, order and discipline gods can and should take that view that Mist and her followers are not someone to associate with. But they should not say that Mist and her followers are evil (although some may be). Chaotic, lawless (possibly) and undisciplined certainly (no misty ever has an organised sock drawer)

But Mist is also say Allied with Ilsare and friendly with Xeen. Both of whom are gods that appear to be mainly respected upon the server (despite their hedonistic tenancies).

So please people do take the time to understand how the faith of your deity relates to the faith and views of another.

I am in no way admitting something I did not do, I will only write that I am AWARE of piracy. No frickin' way am I guilty in any way in this situation.

Do NOT do this either.

Write a letter stating that you have been advised by your ISP that THEIR logs indicate that someone either unlawfully gained access to your equipment or has duped the ISPs systems into thinking your equipment had been used for illegal purposes.

Also state that you had neither knowledge nor involvement in any illegal activities using either your equipment or connection.

Server Rules / Re: For those fast leveling characters out there
« on: April 17, 2007, 06:50:41 am »
Quest limits are in place to ensure the fun is in for everyone in the quest

If a quest is combat based then either the lvl 3 fighter gets creamed by the spawns or the level 15 mage is bored witless. The range levels for quests ensure that everyone on the quest has a reasonably balanced combat experience.

We are however in the process of adding more hard coded scripts for lower levels.

Another thing worth considering that quests are as much about character actions as they are about combat prowess. And it often takes time for a new character to properly develop his or her personality.

Oh and there are often quests for lower levelled players. But we only have so many GMs and their time is limited.

As Orth says we have lots in the works right now. and are trying to fix all these issues.

However we do need a little patience. I work with a great team of people who all give of their time freely. They don't ask for any rewards, which is lucky because they don't get any. But as we are volunteers we can only spend so much time fixing things and adding to the world.

It also takes longer to add things than many of you would guess. Bioware never designed NWN for persistent worlds. Single-player and multi-player games yes, persistent worlds no. What the community at large and the the layo team specifically have done is awesome. They have taken  a good and stretched it far beyond its original target. V3 was a huge release and we are still trying to deal with the fallout from that. but we will.

In addition we actually like to play on Layo in some of our spare time as well as just fix code etc. So please give us some time. We will get there.

Ok Terry Pratchett is something I can read any time (I own every book he has published to date!)

If you want dark and funny look at Neil Gaiman (He wrote Good Omens with Terry Pratchett, the Sandman Graphic Novel series but his best two are Neverwhere and American Gods - both fantastic examples that you can writing stunning fantasy set right here on modern earth)

The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant the Unbeliever Series By Stephen R. Donaldson - the only series of books I have ever enjoyed where I have despised the main character. These books are really dark, but great.

oh and of course anything by Enid Blyton!
