Love him or hate him , tis a loss to us all. I personally shall miss the Neppisim's

As far as my favorite and fondest memory, Getting Him down to Badly Wounded in the arena and him casting some death spell on me and it failing, to see him scurry away, casting spells to stop me was the closest I ever saw him to being rattled, and the Tell from him stating "whew you almost had me that time" still brings a smile to my face

General Discussion / Re: Combatants Vs. Magicians - Unfair Balance?
« on: June 04, 2007, 05:52:30 pm »
Only problem I see with current system is the fact Mage war parties being able to solo areas a melee war party could not, Means greater experience and as item drops are based on creature DC's.  The variance and potential for faster advancement, and better items.

This is called unbalance in the real world and to blow smoke to cover the fact is just wrong. To say mages being able to waltz around east , gathering uber items not available to like parties of Melees and this is fair ????

But as has been stated above , we will have to give staff a chance to level the field a bit , Hopefully this change spoken of will be a step in the right direction.

I for one find no lure to play an evil character and often wonder what motivates those that do. As for game play , I find those souls who show their true nature and do my best to assist them and Will travel with them at anytime, the flood of evil that has consumed the server has made many a day here a solo thing as i will not interact with known evil people.

As to quest , it took me about three quest to figure out the same people rule all the quest , sad state of affairs but true. My solution , don't go on quest. Hence my character is stagnate with little hope of advancement, but that is OK to me as i play a good character and can receive enough enjoyment from escorting a newer player around or helping an old true friend recover some cnr, they know i am picky about whom i travel with and will not tolerate any disruption to party or goals, If we met someone of the vast number of "ME BAD GUY" types they have a choice, remain with me and complete the goals of said mission, or go off with the super baddie and kill everything they cross.
 Their choice.

So in closing, Has evil increased? yes.  Is it affecting RP? Only if you let it.  Can anything be done to swing the server back to a more normal and even player base? Yes, solutions are simple when the problem is known, The hard part is getting enough to do the right thing, less you end up with the current situation layo faces.

NWN Ideas, Suggestions, Requests / Re: Balancing suggestion
« on: April 25, 2007, 06:55:26 pm »
Thank you , you people are proving my point exactly. There is a problem and you admit it. It is not like the fighter classes are asking for special treatment , just a level playing field. Watching fighters beg slingers for buffs before battle, is what fun to you, you think this makes that fighter feel comfortable with their character that they have to beg for assistance from the slingers to be able to go into battle? This is what this means to you ?

I thought this server was to encourage group play and a sense of community? The current system creates division and dependence upon a select few. I have played both classes and looked at it from both points of view, the gap is vast and i can understand those that have attained the level of self sufficiency not being willing to give it up, but i ask you to try to see it from the other guy's/gal's point of view for a second. I don't want my sorcerer to loose any of his powers or be handicapped either, it's the nature of the game, but as is stated adnausium in these very forums "if it doesn't seem right or feels unrealistic, then it is probably best to not do it". Thus we are left with one of two solutions, three if you count blow smoke and say" we can't do nothing" 1) reduce the gap from the high side (ie reduce spell count or number of living slingers. 2) Remove restrictions and introduce class specific items to assist said classes to be able to close the gap with said high side players.

We know this can be done with a simple tick in the item creation tool and these items placed in environments conducive with the said classes, (ie wolfwood for ranger items) or as something we are using in a project I am currently assisting with, socketed items , to allow for player customization of said items, and yes the new age level requirements are in effect there as well , we are working on it and feel the level requirement can be removed as soon as we can target all areas and limit the level of the drops , a lot of work yes and worth it as well.

In closing, You yourselves admit their is a gap, we the fighters ask merely that it be narrowed, if not bridged. So we can stand beside you on the battle field not huddle around you and hope you have enough magic for all. For where is the dignity in that, and were is the fundamental mind set of the front line warrior, self sufficiency, pride in ones own abilities, without the myriad of buffs required to raid a goblin camp by a double digit level character. I know deep seated mindsets and sacred turf is hard to take and this may be a battle that will rage for months in these forums, but it is a fight worth the effort and the dignity of all is at stake.

I have always said the difference in the classes should be corrected. The fighter class is core and essential to the game, and it being anything but unrealistic. The explosion of "slingers" is and can only be explained by one thing.
Layo's low magic delusion, and unjust class discrimination is very evident and correctable with a few easy changes.

One that comes to mind is to simple tie the death thread system to the classes hit die type. Thus a slinger would have but four threads, while the current discriminated class would have the extra threads of their class (this of course would have to be done retroactively to make a difference to the world, (can you hear the slingers whining fighters, Good they now know how we feel)

The above solution would also have the effect of the magic users protecting their front line and making sure they are kept alive, Not just kept alive till the objective is at hand then letting them die (I've seen this happen on many occasions)

The fighter as i said is the core and most basic element of the game (and yes it is a game, not a chat room with pretty avatars) I mean did King Aurthur, go into battle with a army of merlin's, no the slinger was unique and thus was an asset to the fighters, not the skewed version we have here. In the lord of the rings was the battle won by a army of mages, or was their presence manifest in one or two beings the predominate force being the fighters and support classes.

Which brings me to gear, Fighters are restricted in what they can and can't use in this unrealistic argument of balance, when all that is accomplished is unbalance, class favoritism and rendering the core basis for the game moot. What as always struck me as odd is the fact that if we have all these super mages why are they not able to enchant gear for fighters, we have proof it does exists in the helms of armor and necklaces and belt of various types. But what of the shield and other gear a fighter carries, My point is this if I have a shield and can go to a mage and tell him what i want on it (as was possible in even the earliest versions of D&D), That mage would research the required componets and figure their time and effort and tell the fighter..."You want "X" on this shield, this is what i require, "X" coins, and "X,X,X,X components". This would allow for greater role play and allow the fighter to supplement their weaknesses to narrow the gap between the classes.

This of course bring us to the new age, unrealistic solution of level restrictions on fighter gear. I have tried to think of a real world equivalent of this and most i can come up with are absurd at least, case in point , Driving a car. Under layo standards a character could only, till they were 12 seasons old only be able to drive a compact car, to try to even open the door of a mid sized vehicle would result in god knows what (as this is never explained) Would the unlucky camper explode ? , would it discharge a devastating electrical shock ? These are questions i have of this, as it is known to me that drops are configurable, and stores are as well.....the excuse that we can't have a 1st level character running around in +5 plate is lame, and is the responsibility of GM's to catch such abuses and correct them. To remain at the current level of discrimination the only just action would be to retard the pace of which slingers get their spells , to better bring them in line with the restriction placed on the fighters at present. This of course would have to be done retroactively as well to bring the current explosion of slingers in line with the low magic persona that is alluded to when one reads the server info.

Now i know there is gonna be the mournful moans of those that have enjoyed this skewed playing field and many might be brought down to realistic levels with other players , but that is what is needed so as to make each of us rely on each other , not promote uber mage hoarding parties on east and central were the most basic and core element of the game is shut out and left to be nothing more than mage tenders at early stages and watch their protectorates wander off to glorious days as they are trapped to obscurity on east and occasional trips to central when a slinger feels like slumming it with the rift raft of the server.

Fixed Bugs / Re: Pally War Horse go poof
« on: April 24, 2007, 09:53:47 pm »
Good points , all known to me by the way. I only use mine for transport from one area to another and always release him when i am at the desired location. As it also known certain characters sometimes attack other peoples horses.

Also I might offer what fixed my problem as another possible solution, till the bug is fixed. In an act of desperation i used the saddle and it told me i must be riding a horse to use it . But lo and behold when next I used my pally whistle my horse appeared and seems to be back to normal.

Thanks for the time and effort and i can only hope, your or my solutions might aid another with a similar situation.

Hey , Just ask the "GOD", If he doesn't answer. You must be doing right.

Seriously i have had this dilima myself with the iil-concived and poor thought out "Dogmas" of the these so called religions, But then i remember it's a game and as they are just someones thoughts on a perticular concept.
To try to follow them to the letter is not only foolish, but in direct oppisition to the spirit of the server. If you are to truly RP you must be like the leaves on a tree, no two exactly alike. Unless we are but mere cookiecutter virsions of the same mindless, koolaid drinking robots.
Revel in your questioning of a mortals view of your "GOD", till he speaks directly to you , you have no way of knowing if it was a raving lunatic that wrote your dogma or as in the case of Toran, a being so weak and so of intrest to Toran that Torans enemies rose him from death , without so much as a clearing of the throat from Toran. Yet we are bound by this weak beings words, which when studied make as much sense as handing a monkey the detonator to an atomic bomb.

"Um fellas it's a dell, it will come with a recovery disk, that will load vista even if he dosn't want to, only way around it is to load the disk and once running , to open the disk and remove what files he wants/needs (ie bios and driver files). Then burn them to a disk and format the hard drive, While that is going on he can run down to his local Comp-U-Mart and hope they have a copy of plain ole xp.
You'll want a full install not an upgrade unless you have an older version of windows laying around. Once you have xp on go in and install all your needed files (ie. Bios and drivers). Thats the only way around installing vista on your machine.

P.S. Integrated most often means bare minimum, invest in a sound card (PCI) and a Network card (PCI), worst case senerio is you will have the integrated ones as back ups.

Development Journals and Discussion / Re: ILLUMINATION'S
« on: March 27, 2007, 06:59:10 pm »
So it has come to pass. While in Port Hempstead, a large group of seasoned warriors and adventurers were gathered near the gates. When a funeral procession past, most where respectful of this and most remained till the people having buried their loved one began to filter back through and leave the town.
One family however seeming lost and stunned by the events, made their way to the gate and stood in humble silence, their children pale, malnourished, and sobbing. One adventurer approached them and ask what was wrong, another came forth and offered food, none foresaw the coming rage and blame that would be leveled against us all.
The offers of food and coin only enraged the father, whom we learned had just buried his sister. The wife tried to calm her husband, but his recent loss let loose his pent up anger and emboldened him to face the cause of his rage. The "hero's " as he called us.
I had raised the very concerns many times in the past, only to be told i knew not of what i spoke, now the gravest of my fears has come to pass. We have lost the trust of the people, and the best they could do was offer a crumb of food and a few coins. As if this would somehow fix everything. As allowing Boergar and Milara to dictate conditions and proclaim them treaties to the masses. As bandaging the festering wound of evil and proclaiming it solved, because it was not visible.
I stood awaiting thy "Champion " to step forth and act, he stood mute and offered not aid or solution to the the peoples plight. Twas at this moment i had the Epiphany, This is beyond the Champions of the past, different times, different needs. Time for NEW Champions to step forth. Time for one whom wields the true weapon of TORAN to answer the call. Time for one whom is among the people, believes service to the people is the true calling. As thy left hand is the shining hand, thy right hand, which was once the Justicars, the hand of justice, must be reawakened.
I wish to speak of another , whom I have watched and find worthy of thy consideration for this honor. Her name is Clarissa and she and I have traveled with and watched from afar. She is liken unto me in devotion the needs of the people, no request is beneath her and never have i seen her stray from thy teachings. I am aware she wields the bastard sword, not thy weapon of favor, but so does thy current "CHAMPION", and as such to keep the scales of justice equal unto all , I humbly ask like justice be allowed unto her.
As to me , my deeds are known to thee, and the people are my judges. While some hate me, they follow thee not and most times act to please their god. Their attacks and schemes are merely to test me and my devotion. I know this and relish in their feeble attempts to trip me up on their understanding of thy code
