Ask A Gamemaster / Re: current requirements for relevel
« on: October 22, 2011, 11:32:16 am »
To be honest, I had not considered rebuilding him from level 1.  While that would be nice, kinda seems unfair to ask for that.  So it would be just his last level.

is it possible to use a graceful plea for somthing like this?

for me, they were a bit out of reach.  the gear is impressive, but I dont usualy have that much gold and getting trues as a part time player on layo is a bit daunting.

slipping through the shadows, the aynndel waits until the area is clear and then quietly as possible removes 2 rings, a silver and topaz one and one that seems to be an enhancement to wisdom  (owls 2).  looking further, he removes a sccroll box.  then places an iron mace, iron flachon, iron chain shirt, book about destruction and a tune of the harper.  moving over to the donation chest, he deposits 711 gold and a note telling the owner his name and that he can be reached at the inn in ft vehl.  then slips out throught shadows the fill the room.

discretely places hsi tiems and a note in the crate:

to the owner of this establishment, I have taken a set of your bracers that seem to help with my dexterity.  in return I have left you 2 iron maces, a whip that i' heard called the adler and a book on destruction.  if you require anything more from me regarding this transaction, contact me through the inn keeper in ft. vehl, asking for aynndel caladur.
my thanks.

just a few thoughts;

1.  I don't think it's actually code-able to go in the red in game, true wise.

why not give a character a non removable token, that works like a reverse quest?   you get the token, its worth a certain amount of negative gold, that gets deducted from your inventory.  when the amount is reached, the token does an auto destruct and you get to go psoitive again.  at the same time,  the token would serve as a reminder while you are replacing the lost gold and xp, that there are consequences to dying.

2.  So this isn't an RP world anymore, where RP is the key feature and is intended to pervade all aspects? It's just Diablo with more classes and a writing exam to play? I missed the memo.

to be honest, I appreciate your passion for this, but the way I see it, this server ~needs~ to have a large base of people with different styles.  some are imersive RPers, some are just casual players, but they all add somthing to the server.  even more important, while they may be people that may suck at RP, somones version of it or even just driuve you crazy.  they may also be important to people that you do like and enjoy having on this server.  the social networks here are a lot like a web, you pull one strand and you leave a glaring hole.

3.  layo has changed

yep, when I first came to this server, it was exciting and wide open.  I could not believe it, I had seen worlds, where static was the rule and nothing changed.   I could not believe it when I  first heard of layo.  saddly though, that seems to be the direction Layo is going.   when I was a PnP player, we called it falliing in love with youre world or plot line.   DM's would stop taking feed back and just run with an idea and/or refuse to change things, till people got bored, frustrated and left of revolted, no matter how good the initial premise was.

why is this important in the long run for the MMO?  folks this is your chance to practive your managmenet styles and customer satisfaction before walkinginto the big leagues.  the way I see it, layo is in compteition for players with other servers, like Aerlith (huge base) and amia, just to mention a few and this is a  great time to see what works and what doe not when it comes to keeping player happy and on line.  I would really love to see this succede, but it seems like the world  has become static and changes are like pulling teeth these days.  I can accept the idea that there is not perfect world and you have likely have a deluge of requests for change, so I dont envy your choices.  but it also seems like the player base is dropping significantly and you have a lot of unhappy players, so it seems like change is necessary.

NWN Ideas, Suggestions, Requests / Re: Item breakage or Item attuning
« on: February 02, 2010, 07:20:08 pm »
millions? what millions :(   dont know about the rest of you, but most of my characters barely scrape by and cant afford new gear most of the time.  let alone repair what they have alread bought.  breakage sounds great for crafters, not so good for the rest of us.  if the whole breakage thing gets implemented, either the gold needs to be increased or you will have a lot of adventureres, turned crafters making a lot of what they need.   as far as hiring adventurers to do the gathering, unless they dont have much time, it pays in gold and XP to gather and most people I know, do it themselves.   just my two cents.  :)

Ive been following a lot of these threads (as much as I can )
with the same general point.  Its hard to get a party, cant compete with the mages, etc.  In my humble opiinion, it all comes down to the server base being split and spread out.  Since we went to the split starting locations this server has been more of a encouragement to solo, then party up,  As a player, you can spend huge amounts of time sitting in Hemp or Vehl and not see another player and when you do, you run into the :  "hey, youre the wrong faith, youre the wrong race, your armour is the wrong color, I cant party with you ..  kind of thinking.  Add to that the fact, that unlike the hlint days, when we were more concnetrated,  the player base is spread all over the server  RP opopertunities are fewer,  unless you have an established group or guild.  What it all comes down to is a server that encourages players to solo and fight or craft rather than RP.  The complaints have been loud and many from what Ive seen and nothing seems to change.  I can understand the Team has a vision for Layo, but is this the Layo you want?

actually, I really dont have anything I really need to change about any of my characters.  they have their flaws, but most of them add to their RP and I have fun with them.  my point in all this is that I honestly think that relaxing the restrictions on GP's will benifit the server a lot.  at the same time, with a limit of 3 and the ability to regain lost SS's and equipement or the ability to rebuild a character, they are kinda self policing.

NWN Ideas, Suggestions, Requests / Re: Hlint
« on: December 04, 2009, 10:48:47 am »
somthing that I liked about Hlint, as opposed to Hemp-Vehl, was what I like to call the  "character incubator".  In Hlint, there was a well thought out series of areas to explore and fight or gather CNR's as a new character.   It was the best Ive seen on anyother server Ive gamed on.  It went somthing like this; Sewers-crypts-gobbies-kobolds-swamps-haven.  Solo or in a group of newbies, it was fun and with craftable items in abundance, you could be busy all day long with out time wasting runs back and forth between CNR sites and craft halls.  The biggest short coming of Hlint was the lack of a port.  Hemp-Vehl is not as well developed and as a restricted race, it is even worse.  I can accept that Hlint is not in the running for a new start point, which seems odd, since lore and nonplayer attitudes can be changed with the stroke of a pen.  But it can serve as a template for what ever is.

Have you ever taken antibiotics? yes

Have you ever asked your doctor for antibiotics? no

Would you expect your doctor to give you antibiotics if you had an illness caused by a virus, such as a cold?  no

Would you expect your doctor to give you antibiotics if you had an illness caused by bacteria, such as tonsillitis? yes

Do you always finish a course of antibiotics? yes

Do you think it matters if you don't finish a course of antibiotics? yes

In some countries you can buy antibiotics at a chemists shop, would you like to do this in the UK?   no, I live in the US, but its a really bad idea

Have you heard of antibiotic resistant bacteria? yes

Are antibiotic bacteria more likely appear when people don't finish their course of medicine?  yes

Ask A Gamemaster / Re: gotta ask why
« on: November 26, 2009, 10:14:14 am »
sorry for not replying to this sooner, but Ive been doing 12 hr days at work and its taken its toll.

where I feel a lot of frustration with the GP system is that it give you only 3 chances to correct a mistake of some sort.   At the same tiime, we spend litterally years of time we steal away from RL to build the levels, the RP history and our ingame relationships.  The mistakes we make as humans can be as simple as being brain fried; too many hours at work, stress, a fight with someone close, whatever, its just a mistake.  As a result, we die in game, sometimes loose a strand, drop gear due to full inventory and cant get it back before the sweeper kicks in etc.  In regards to our character builds, sometimes, we start with a character concept, that changes due to the need of the people we play with and realise weve hit a dead end or maybe our characters and our concepts change as our characters grow, but we feel stuck.  Would giving players the chance to correct some mistake with a GP without having to go into the CA and get approval be soo bad?   I know it would be a serious bonus to the commuinty, but wouldnt it be worth it for how much better it would make the lives of those playing?

General Discussion / Re: What do you want from Layonara?
« on: October 24, 2009, 02:53:46 pm »
what I want out of Layo?  more of what hooked me in the first place.  When I came here, we were in Hlint, great place with lots of RP.  Whether it was debates on the benches or casual chat on the Greens in front of the Bank, there was a lot of  fun RP and it was fantastic.  At the same time, you had a center of the world, we all came there to craft or whatever and you knew everyone.   Because there was a central place to meet and Hlint drew us all there, you had true casual encounters and parties formed with new people all the time.  Since then, it seems like the player base has fragmented and is spread all over the server and casually meeting someone is  more engineered that casual.
I also think the strict interpretation of rules is bogging things down and putting RP in a strait jacket, effectively creating cookie cutter characters.  Its one thing to have guidlines and Im good with that.   Ive played on servers with out them and none have the depth of RP that Layo does.  But at this point, it seems like they are getting too well defined and its hard to be creative with a character.   When I first came here, I played an Az'attan and loved it,  because it allowed a lot of freedom to RP and interract.  Now it just feels frustrating.  In the real world, most if not all  faiths accept a significant amount of diversity, why cant Layo offer the same?
As Skywatcher pointed out, there can be no perfect serverand he is right, people are too diverse.  But isnt Layo big enough to accomidate more variety?  We all bring something to the table and add flavour to the world.
