First Mate's Log
10th day of the 8th month
Vehl

I met another master of fencing, although he wouldn't admit himself and such.  After I returned from a brief sojourn on the dragon Isles, slaying Minators and the like, I sailed into Fort Vehl.  His name was Pyyran and he was quite the fighter.  He routinely put me on the floor. We had another long conversation and I can see now what it is I need to become a great fencer and duelist.  I have spoken with and fenced with three great fencers.  I believe this one will continue to train me, Him and that Tobias elf.  By the way, I have to remember to bring him his clothes.

Today I went to the dragon Isles again aswell.  Seems to be alot of were-creatures there, bears and wolves and the like.  I fell in combat with some trolls however, or so my friends tell me, the last thing I remember is the wailing of the soul mother. That wench, I hope she gets hers someday.  Well when I returned to Vehl I met one of the elves of the ocean. I hadn't seen one since my days at sea.  She were a fine lass, however that mage man gave her some wine and said it was non alchaholic, I didn't notice that it actually was wine till she actually was rather drunk.  (seeing as I were a wee bit drunk myself)  anyway, a bunch of her friends showed up after I had tried to help her to a bench.  They seemed to be taking well enough care and seemed to know her so I was getting ready to leave.  However one of them had other ideas, and after accusing me (sweet innocent me of all people :P) of getting her drunk on purpose the man attacked me with his fists, I mannaged to fend him off well enough though till his mates and the lass made him stop.  So after giving him a peice of my mind (the sober b part that is)  I took it as my que to leave and said my farewells to the kind lass.  She ran after me and gave a flower the silly girl before returning to her mates.  I wish we could meet at sea eh?

10th day of the 7th month
Vehl

I met the most amazing Elf today.  He was practicing with a large almost deamonlike man in the arena.  He managed to take down that large man all by himself, no magic or anything.  So I decided that since I am attempting to become a master of the rapier as It was apparent this man was, I asked him to train me. He agreed and we went into the ring.

This was incredible.  He was like an Elven Whirlwind.  He could out attack me at every turn.  I couldn't even land a single strike on him.  And I were using a rapier and him nothing but his fists!!  We worked on my foot work and my bladework. He gave me some very good pointers as well, all about balance and precision, and my parrying as well. I could barely stop his fists and fend off his blows, there was such a flurry, and he was so fast.  I hope no one reads these notes, this man who is teaching me sure did feed me a full helping of humble pie.  However I can tell I am getting better, a few months ago It would have been over before it began, now atleast I can take some time before I fall.  All he asked for in return was for me to get my tailor to make a set of clothes like mine, except in blue and with no hook, Imagine that.

The Scamps Mug

Well I met an Interesting fellow today.  His name was Glitch'nitch and he was an aspiring duelist and combatant much like myself.  I were quite a ways farther along in that respect however, and he asked for my help. I couldn't turn someone down who wanted help learning, and more importantly who would pay.  Although he had some nice weapons and he were a quite powerful spell caster he needs some practice with a blade.  Although I suppose thats why he came to me.  It was good practice for me also though, I got to practice my bladework and balance.  Also the precision and power of my strikes.  Well my foot work is getting better.  Anyway so I sparred with this Glitch'nich guy for a while and after the bruises heal I'm sure he will be much better of with a blade than before.

Well we went to the Scamps Mug to celebrate.  Salles told us about some robed lass on Dregar who has been appearing and disappearing.  Supposedly the lass were scaring adventurers and when one group tried to kill her she devastated them with some very powerful spells.  I hear they are limping around somewhere the poor buggers.  Then to celebrate me and Glitch had a mug of the strongest stuff Salles had and bugger me It knocked my boots off I'm ashamed to say.

Somewhere under Fort Wayfar

We have stopped for a break, I'm going to take this time to write here just in case.  If I do not make it out of here at least someone may find this log. 15 of us entered this cave, we've managed to make it rather far down.  None have fallen yet, but things have been becoming gradually more difficult.  A man came to us for help, I was in the inn when he arrived so I decided join the group.  We started by entering into some large cave under Fort Wayfar.  Once we proceeded we had to fight past some large spiders and leeches.  We came upon a mysterious door, It took some time but we managed to find a mold and create a key in order to get the door open. When we entered we found ourselves in a much more elaborate room, with large marble pillars and polished floors.  There were a few working contraptions and some rats but they were taken care of by some of the more powerful members.  we continued down two connected hallways.  They were booby trapped and many of the people were hurt or otherwise affected by them, thankfully I kept my wits and managed to avoid the traps.  In the other room there were two exits.  One of them was a hole in the floor and the other a buried portal.  We managed to unbury the portal, and I tied my rope to one of the marble pillar and lowered the rest into the hole.  The majority of the group decided to go down the hole, but I decided the portal was the best chance for getting what we needed.  I went through, Who wants to live forever right??  When I rematerialized, or whatever it is those bloody portals do to you, there were two of those cutting contraptions down there, thankfully I managed to cut them both down on my own.  *a note is scribbled on the side (ask those mages how the portals work anyway)*  A few others followed me through the portal and arrived a little while after I finished with those machines and had looked around the room a bit.  The rest of the group arrived, I guess the hole led to some room a little ways down the hall through one of the doors.  We fought off some spiders and odd semi-mechanical rats that one of the guys accidentally lead through the adjoining doors.  There is some larger more powerful things up ahead, or so some of the others say, so we are taking a break here.

Something more personal I'd like to note here also.  I was very glad of Angela's advice about avoidance and using my head in combat.  I can feel how my skills are improving.  Even in this place I am growing closer to my goal of being a great fencer.  I can feel my blows becoming more precise, and I can tell enemies vital area's more easily.  My ability to parry and avoid blows is becoming better all the time.  I truly can feel how much I have improved these months ashore.  I think i am significantly close to my goal, plus wearing this heavy weighted armour is makeing my stronger and faster, I'm sure soon that not wearing it at all will be better than the protection afforded by it is, It is feeling more encumbering compared to what I could do without it by the day.

20th Day of the 11th Month
The Scamp's Mug, Port Hempstead

I have had a fortunate day today, in my quest to become better at fighting.  I met that lass again, I believe her name was Angela Swann.  She and her friends were the ones I trained with a while back.  Her and I got into a protracted discussion about fighting without armour, a skill I need to learn badly.  She had a lot of good advice.  How to deal with multiple opponents, and how to avoid taking hits.  She also had some good advice about getting your opponents mad and off balance.  She seems to be very experienced and I think I am understanding this more and more.  These tips are very useful.

I am also getting faster.  I have been wearing weighted chainmail under my clothes.  It protects me somewhat so it is helpful, but its better for helping me increase my speed and reflexes.  I can move normally with the stuff on so when I take it off, all my limbs feel lighter than air.  I can definitely feel much myself moving much faster now.  I think with a little more practice I can probably be done with the stuff. That will be good, I can rest easily when that happens, Ill be just as good without that stuff plus if I get knocked overboard I wont be having problems drowning.  This rapier is going to be quite useful the new skills I have learned and developed.

Ravenswatch

This has been an interesting week.  I can feel myself growing stronger everyday.  I need to practice my skills perhaps in the arena.  I still remember tha strength of that one lass.  I have a goal to work towards.  I am going to become a master of combat.  To be able to out duel anyone like she could, and I think I am ready to learn.  I am going to seek out training as soon as possible.

Well something interesting happened today.  There were some unusual happenings out here near Ravenswatch.  There were goblin scouts out in force, more so than usual.  And a larger group of kobolds than was to be expected.  The people who were with me and I decided to get together a group and find out what was going on so we returned to Hempstead and gathered a large party.  However when we returned nothing more was amiss, there was tough fighting sure, but no more than was to be expected out there.  Still twas strange to see so many goblin scouts out, even if the oddity quickly subsided.

26th day of the 11th month
Fort Vehl

Well Ive taken quite a beating today.  A few people were practicing in the arena and I decided to join in.  I took the beating of my life!  I'm going to need allot more practice and training.  A good dose of humility is good every once in a while though.  Unfortunately it were a mage that put the beating on me!  However there were another lass there.  She could'ave keelhauled me in heart beat if she 'ad wanted to.  She moved with quite some grace that reminded me of my old captain when he fought.  However this lass were much more refined in here style, and quite acrobatic.  Now I am sure I need to find a trainer so as to improve on my skills.

First Mates log
Date unknown

I've seen the plane of death, and its not a fun place to be.

Ive been growing stronger.  A fighter named jon and a slightly off in the head wizard friend of mine have been adventuring with me.  I can feel that my skills are getting better.  Im glad of the training my old captain had given me its served me well.  I just regret that I did not get to learn more from him.  I will need to find another teacher I guess, If I truly want to progress+.

So I guess I bit off more than I could chew up there on that frozen island.  Ive been slain by some odd little creatures and have seen the plane of death.  I dont know how long I was there but when I came to again I was back in Fort Vehl.  Im very weak for the time being, I suspect it will subside with rest.  I'll just sitting by the pond writing now.

First Mate Vaara's Log
6th day of the 10th month

Well I guess its not truly the first mates log anymore but I will leave it named as such In their honour.

Yesterday we were engaged by pirate hunters, they attempted to board the Ilmarinen.  During the battle that ensued our captain, may he rest in peace, was struck down by a crossbow bolt.  Even though we managed to defeat the pirate hunters I was wounded in the combat.  Almost instantly a great storm welled up and wreaked both the vessels.  The poor Ilmarinen was smashed against the rocks. A finer vessel I have not sailed on.

I washed up on shore a the next morning.  I was still grasping a piece of the hull.  When I looked up I saw I was near a large walled in, fort-like city.  I wandered into the port and found out that this was indeed Fort Vehl. From there I made my way to port Hempstead or something along those lines in search of some basic arms to equip myself.  There I ran into another mariner, Quinn Faren, he claimed to be a sailor on a merchant ship. I'm not sure If he was telling the truth about being a merchant but he was defenatly a sailor.  After that I went to rest and write.
