Okay, roger that. Well, thanks for answering so fast :)

To whom it may concern, be it board moderator or GelatinousRSS:
Would it be possible to list all of these roleplayingtips.com: Issues in one thread instead of starting a new one each time a new tip is here? All the other threads here sort of drown among the countless issues of tips. All threads, except for sticked threads and threads that are frequently bumped up, simply vanish to older pages.

It would be a great help, at least to me, and much appreciated.

EDIT: Just noticed that there is actually a thread intended for these: RSS-feeds.

Would it be possible to have it arranged?

Just was browsing LORE and have another question :

Is LORE correct in saying FIGHTERS can take : overwhelming critical and devastating critical ?

Why should that not be allowed? I should be fairly simple to come up with an IC reason and, IIRC, it's not all that powerful (well, good but not too powerful IMHO).

This whole reflexive response "if you worship more than one, then you're obviously not devout enough to have a diety in your field so make it blank" is both historically inacurrate and illogical to me, and seems more in line with OOC western monotheistic thought than IC devotion.

Regarding not being devout enough, I believe it is not in terms of faith but rather loyalty. Sure, you can easily pray to multiple gods (in fact, I think must ought to) but as a cleric/paladin or other devout, you should dedicate yourself completely to one god. By paying special respect and heed to a certain god, and praising him more than the others, you're not excluded from praying to the others, as long as it is only one you "pledge your allegiance" to. You would naturally gain a closer connection to the god in question, gaining all the benefits thereof, and would still be quite free to turn to the other gods when needed.

However, by claiming to be equally devout to to (or more) gods, you would lose the god's favor (he's no longer your favorite? Well, then you aren't his favorite either), you're no longer a devout of Toran's church, you're just a dude who prays to him. At least, IMHO.

Having a diety in your field should reflect your special relationship with that god, making him your god of choice/favorite god and you can't have more than one of those.

So a build such Fighter/Weaponmaster/Duelist, which makes perfect sense IC, wouldn't be allowed on grounds of being too effective? Even with extensive CDQs, journal writing and IC reasons?

Yeah, especially the goals bit is a great help to keeping a character interesting to play. The more, the merrier I say, as it'll give you something to choose from. Hmm, I've finally realized my dream of learning to play the lute, what should I do know? Should I try to pursue my dream of becoming a legend swordsmith or maybe attempt to find my father's murderer? No wait, I'll go look for the divine rod of fishing (+5) and catch the King Cod!

Well... So maybe that wasn't the best example, but you all catch my (and Acacea's) drift, right? With goals, your character will always have purpose and will be interesting to play as and with.

Sorry if I'm further derailing this thread, but I simply gotta know: Are there specific combinations of classes that aren't allowed? And I mean both in terms of rules and what DMs what actually approve.

Last but not least, Creating and Developing Lasting Characters
Don't forgot to read Moloch's guide to characterization!

These two guides have proved themselves invaluable to me when it comes to creating a character. While everything in these guides are, of course, just opinions and up for discussion, then I do believe one could benefit greatly from them in terms of adding depth to characters.

I hope others will enjoy these as much as I did :)

I understand that aging has been discussed else and nothing decisive was agreed upon, but you might wanna have an excuse why your character has been gone and returns now, hardly aged, after 49 years and 9 days (layonara time). I imagine that some of the people that he used to known must've aged quite a bit and the world is very different from back then (with the major events and all that). Just a heads up, as I imagine it could lead to some weird situations if you don't readily have an excuse :)

Also, welcome back. Glad to see more people joining.

Ask A Gamemaster / Re: The everyday life of a cleric
« on: May 06, 2008, 04:23:12 am »
This question might not belong in here, but I didn't wanna start a new thread just for one question.

Would I need to submit a request in order to have my character's domains changed from Protection and War to Good and War? I haven't created the character yet in game but he is approved, so it's really just a question of whether or not I need approval and if/how the DMs should be made aware of it.

Thanks in advance,
Mr. Erth

Thanks for the advice. I request membership a couple of days ago and I'm still waiting for a reply. I had also looked at the chart and I do plan to keep it around as I can't possibly memorize all of it. I also read some of the thread regarding RPing the relations of the deities, so I feel pretty much good to go on that side of things (which is why I didn't ask).

Anyway, thanks again for the help guys.

Introduce Yourself / Re: Greetings and all that
« on: April 29, 2008, 02:29:53 pm »
Just a quick question and a comment.

First, how long does it usually take for a character to be approved? Not to stress anyone, I know the approves have plenty on their hands and a life outside the game as well, I'm just curious :p

Secondly, I've been reading a lot of the lore, rules and that kind of thing and I must say, I'm VERY impressed and looking more and more forward to being a part of this immense project. Especially because this world is open to change; characters who try hard have a good chance at actually leaving their mark upon the world which is not something you see everywhere. Furthermore, people seem eager to help and very friendly.

Major kudos to the community, the DMs and Leanthar for creating and contributing to what seems like the best RPPW around :)

Both the fact that I can actually affect the world, as well as the fact that it simply is more immersive than an MMO, speaks in favor of Layo.

I'll probably be reading up on some lore before I really get started though.

Thanks for the attention, see you soon :)

To Isaac.

I hope this letter finds you well. I write from Fort Llast, as you probably expected. I have taken my vows and the clergy from the temple of Toran accepted me into their ranks as a cleric. I thank you, father, for I would surely not have succeeded without your teachings. I cannot describe how wonderful it feels and how excited I am to begin my duty.

They have allowed me to travel, to learn more of the world I live in and fulfill my new duties as a cleric of Toran wherever I go. When this letter reaches you, I will have arrived at Hempstead which was selected as the first stop on my journey. I will stay there for a couple of weeks and see what the Great Leader has in store for me.

May the Allwatching hold you under his mighty protection and keep you safe till I return.

Yours truly,
Khalem.

PS. Give my regards to those at home. Though the world is big and filled with strange new things, I can't help but to miss my home.

//OOC notes: Isaac is Khalem's foster father, a cleric from Beirun who took care of Khalem since he was found as a child.

The brilliant DivisionByZero from the City of Arabel NWN RP-PW has written some EXCELLENT guides to roleplaying. Both people who have never roleplayed before and old timers who've been at it for years can use these guides.

The Art of Roleplaying
Mostly for newbies, this guide contains:
[LIST=1]
  • Roleplaying and In Character Defined
  • Rolling with the Punches
  • Balancing Realism and Fun
  • What is OOC Consideration, really?
  • Retiring a Character
  • Respectful Disagreement
