NWN Ideas, Suggestions, Requests / Re: Reworking the Sneak System?

That also got me thinking , if that isn't possible maybe an Epic feat  that is active whilst sneaking with whatever weapon he has equiped , a "on hit stun dc 14" ...

My thinking behind this allows the  rogue to use his sneak abilities and the element of supprise his eniemies wouldn't know what hit him sort of thing

Rogues already have something like that and can be gotten before epic levels though have to have atleast 10 rogue levels and only when choosing rogue special feats (Maybe as regular feat after 10 rogue also. not sure)

LORE: Crippling Strike

though to get the stun effect the target would have to pretty much be near burdened... unless the STR damage stacks with each sneak attack.

Ok, maybe you could miss hitting a rock but in those cases your usually swinging down at it... but when it comes to hitting a door (let alone the broad side of a barn door. :D ) can you really miss? Wether or not your hit does damage should really come down to overcoming Damage Reduction.

As for webs, ok maybe they are strong... but then can't we burn them with torches? Maybe some sorta action script for that if possible.

I think your underestimating the usefulness of stealth. Sure the NWN mechanics don't give you that whole take down/drag away stuff you see in many stealth games (of which I love aswell) but you should realize NWN (D&D and Forgotten Relms) even Layonara are party based games and as such the sneak attack (and assassins death attack) are more of a support ability designed to help the party take out enemies in a fight.

As for attacking and disappearing again, HiPS is exactly that. As for it not working all time. Thats simply the matter of some one catching you trying to slip away (failing initial hide check as you re-enter stealth)

Now back to the usefulness of stealth. Much of which is mostly role play but hey Layo is all about role play isn't it? As you should know rogues are not the only class that can sneak, though perhaps the best when it comes to role playing a stealth character. Rangers, Bards and Monks are also great at sneaking.

some of the many things one can do as a stealth character is:

1. Scouting: Essentially finding who, what and how many are in a room/area then reporting that to the party so they may be better prepared or perhaps finding an alternate route around any dangers. This may also involve getting through locked doors, disarming traps and perhaps even setting up traps of your own. (mostly roguish though rangers can also set traps)

2. Spying: A lot like scouting. One might sneak up to a door or near a group and over hear (listen check) talk/plans of attack/ambush/siege/etc which can then be relayed back to the party and/or kingdom... could also learn of a secret stash and find it yourself.

3 Sabotage: Sneaking into a camp and setting traps, reworking something to do something its not supposed to (activating a golem or w/e to run amok in the camp), freeing caged animals and letting them run wild in the camp and generally anything to cause panic and disorder among your enemies. (pretty much one of the most role playable things a stealth character can do.)

Sadly didn't get my game from GOG... or Steam though still think it was just a server glitch... just had to wait a bit longer (till the sever reset I think) for the server to realize I was not actually logged in anymore. I'm able to log in now though.

Specifically about Leringard, it's surely not the most famous city in the world. Probably not even close, to be truthful.  I happen to know that Leringard is part of the greater Trelania write-up, and that the in-game layout of Leringard as of the last update more closely resembles (in spirit, anyway) the official but as-yet unreleased write-up for the city.

Ah, well thanks for that clarification. Was thinking it was a famous city... it at least has a somewhat famous tavern that has its own section on the forum. Leringard Arms Inn and Tavern along with The Silver Buckle and Wild Surge Inn though not sure what cities/towns those are from.

Yeah, but all cleric spells come from there deity through prayers so how does a clerics (or any other divine casters) spells become extended/empower/maximized... or even praying/channeling there deities powers quick/silent/stilled?

Note: Still spell allows casting wile held, paralyzed, stunned, etc.

Rumour Has It / Re: Fire in Angel's shop (Port Hempstead fields)

Just north or Hempstead, outside the village a chard body can be found, an orc by the looks of it wearing the cloths of a village farmer. To any that can recognize him. It was Brugah. Clinched tightly in one hand he held a small parchment, burns and singes line what what was not in his hand though the rest one might think could possibly still be intact.

//Oh, poor Brugah... such a short life he lived...and not all that exciting of one ether... wanting so desperately to help but guess he made the mistake of asking to many questions and well... got burned.

//I'll leave what the parchment says (if anything) to you guys... not really even sure if this matter has been done and over with now or not... but this marks the unfortunate end of Brugah.

NWN Ideas, Suggestions, Requests / Re: UMD for all! (cross-class)

A list of the Item value and class/race/alignment DCs from base NWN.

Use magic device - NWNWiki, the Neverwinter Nights Wiki - your guide to the game of NWN

If these values have been raised in Layo  then that would make the skill more difficult as a cross-class and Roues and Bard would still have the greater advantage with it being there class skill.

Though as it shows, as a cross-class UMD users won't be able to use Class items with item values over 600,000, Race items over 300,000 or alignment items over 100,000

Rogues and bards on the other hand with it as a class skill can use Items to a max value of 1,800,000 Class, 1,400,000 Race and 1,000,000 Alignment.

Think your forgetting something, Rogues and Bard have a lot more skills and abilities then just UMD. Rogues are the only base class that can sneak attack and pick locks and the only class that can detect and disarm traps with a DC of 20+ and Bards have there unique Bardic Knowledge (only shared with Agent of the Realm), are the only class who plays music (mechanically) and has unique spells no other caster has.

In fact often thought of making a Bardic Sorcerer simply cause the Bard has spells the Sorcerer does not... and they both have the same spell casting attribute. (CHA)

In addition they both have access to many unique feats like the Bards Lingering Song, Curse Song, etc and the Rogues Slippery Mind, Opportunist, Skill Mastery, ect.

So allowing all other classes UMD as cross-class shouldn't be to unbalancing (if at all) should it?

Well, first off the thought came to me when I played NWN2 and DDO. Thinking it kinda interesting that Bioware/D&D made the skill a cross-class for all (save for Rogue and bard who still have it as a class skill)

Second, as a cross-class the skill would max around 20. Allowing at best low to mid range restricted items to be used.

I've always liked UMD myself mostly cause it allows the use of scrolls and wands. With the cross-class limit I'm thinking about spell levels 0-6... at best?

Oh, there bonus damages... though... if arrows/bows already do piercing... wouldn't the Falcon feathers piercing bonus be a bit well... useless... or am I reading that wrong and the damage type from feathers actually change the base damage type?

Also... bit off topic but... how exactly does feathers change damage type? Sorry I tend to think well... realistically at times. Slashing, Piercing and bludgeoning (at least)seems to me more to do with how the arrow head is crafted.

Piercing: smooth yet sharp edge with the tip being the smallest sharpest point.

Slashing: Flat and wide for the most part with serrated edges to rip into the target.

Bludgeoning: Little more then a small round metal ball for an arrow head.

At least those are my thoughts.

Though I would say...I would laugh a lot if someone tried to make an UCoP with Weapon Focus: Dagger...unless that someone was an over-caffeinated dual-wielding jackrabbit with a meth habit. ;)

Not necessarily. *Stands by a large crane at the docks, draws dagger and cuts the rope, large crate falls and a well setuped chain reaction ensues resulting in a series of explosions, things falling over and many people dying* Heheh, I love this dagger.

And I love over exaggerating things. :p

Hm, well... since the class is based/origined from CoT in that every champion regardless of deity has to have a weapon focus. Allowing Pyrtechon champions to be without a WF might seem a bit to far of an exception... even if replacing the feat... or so I'm assuming.

My suggestion... don't have it be restricted to just one weapon. Pyrtechon favors no weapon and as Kevmon said, his character is always armed to the teeth which would mean he has many fun and exciting ways to slaughter people. Pyrtechon may not favor a single weapon though his champions might have there own favorite weapon of destruction

*Pyrtechon champion talks about his own favorite weapon* Heheh, yes I have my trusty old heavy mace. *pets heavy mace like it was a kitten* Isn't she perty? Her name is... Helga... After my wife... well... after she smashed my wife... over... and over... and over again. Yeah sure I have axes and maybe a few daggers... a crossbow or two... Oh, but Helga here... *laughs maniacally, swinging his heavy mace around, destroying the interviewing room and smashing everyone like pinatas* Bash! Wack! Smash! yeahahahahaha!!!

Ok... might have when a little uh... crazy there... just a little... but you get the idea right... or uh... do you need Helga here to help you?

Oh really?  How interesting.

I am being neither stubborn nor ignorant. The seven years I have spent developing for Layonara and the close contact I have had with the people who shaped this world before that point gives me a particular insight that frankly you do not possess. I find your accusation ironic at best and insulting at worst.  Take your pick.

So, you can either choose to believe me and show some respect for the time, knowledge and insight I possess, or you can choose to continue on the path of continuing to insult someone who is trying to share his knowledge with you. It's your choice, but I, for one, am done with trying to educate you.

Carry on.

Ok, I'm sorry I said something I shouldn't have and I apologize. I didn't really mean it. This argument over these classes is just seeming a bit well... confusing to say the least I guess. I guess really I'm being the stubborn and ignorant one.

Just finding it a bit odd though how a class can be based off or have origins from one class yet have little in common with that class and have alot in common with another.

*sighs* stubborn ignorance... Look I understand you and frankly about everyone don't like being called wrong, confused/falsehooded or w/e and I apologize. Even if the origins were based on Champion of Thorm, why then does the Unholy Champion have EXACTLY everything the Blackguard have? Even PnP Blackguard

Now, quite frankly I was talking more about the mechanical similarities. Deity requirements, descriptions and all that other role play stuff is simply just that... role play. Take all your classes and that of the base game and put them into another world with different LORE and there the role play requirements will likely be different. Are they the same class? Well, yeah... in a way yet they are also different. My saying that the Unholy Champions are the same as Blackguards in that they are the same (mechanically) yet different (role play wise) and frankly there are no blackguards in layo (at least none I know of) nor Champions of Thorm (let alone a god/deity or w/e named Thorm) So role play wise... what am I really comparing them to? :p

Anyways, enough with this somewhat slight derailing and lets get back to the original question which was:

Quote from: thekevmon
The requirements for Unholy Champion of Pyrtechon include weapon focus (greatsword), but that doesn't make much sense to me given the statement in the Pyrtechon Clergy Attire LORE page:

"Clerics of Pyrtechon show no particular favor toward one weapon type, seeing all as tools to achieve the ends of their dark god. Weapons are made to kill and are all considered to be worthy of use. Indeed, many Clerics of Pyrtechon are skilled in the use of a range of weapons, far beyond the followers of most other deities."

I can understand requiring weapon focus for deities with a chosen weapon, but for Pyrtechon it almost seems as though focusing on one weapon would be frowned upon if anything. I'm just curious as to why weapon focus in a greatsword is required to be a champion of a deity who shows no particular favor toward a greatsword. If there has to be an additional feat (compared to the standard NWN Blackguard), why not something like Great Cleave?

thanks

I suppose to sum that up... A deity that favors no one weapon at all... why then does he force his champions into using one particular weapon rather then letting choose there own?

Ok may have adlibed a bit there... suppose a bit of my own question in that as well then.

If weapon focus has to be required where the champion uses there deities Favorited weapon. Why not for Champions of Pyrtechon be allowed to focus in what ever weapon they choose themselves? After all Pyrtechon favors no one weapon.

Also, as for the greatsword being most destructive is as I said debatable.

Greatsword: 2d6 (2-12) 19-20x2

Greataxe: 1d12 (1-12) x3

Roughly the same damage though the axe does have a higher crit multiplier. Though if you could add the Falchion in there (DDO players claim to be the greatest 2-hander) you would have a higher crit range with 2x crit. So... debatable.

Blackguard is not the basis for Unholy Champion of Pyrtechon.  Any assumptions or analysis based on this idea are simply wrong.

All "Champion" classes in Layonara are based on the Champion of Torm PrC (as I said in my first response) and modified to suit each deity appropriately.

Ummmm... think you might want to look at the links in my last post. Note the unholy Champion is linked to Pyrtechons. All the things the Unholy Champion requires and has are exactly the same as the Blackguard.

Same for Hole Champion and Champion of Thorm.

At least whats stated in LORE are the same with the slight addition of weapon focus to Unholy Champion (blackguard). If that's wrong then LORE needs to be changed.

Hm, wasn't there arrows made for layo that do slashing or bludgeoning damage instead of piercing or were those secondary damage types for arrows?

Well... this seems a bit odd... never noticed before myself... then again I've never really thought much of making a champion character.

From LORE: Unholy Champion, Holy Champion

From Wiki: Blackguard, Champion of Thorm

As it seems, unholy champion are made from Blackguard and Holy Champions from Champion of Thorm though what I find odd... is the difference in requirements.

Holy Champion:
BAB: +7
Feats: Weapon Focus
Alignment: Lawful Good

Unholy Champion:
BAB: +6
Skills: Hide 5 ranks
Feats: Cleave, Weapon Focus
Alignment: Neutral Evil

By what it seems... unholy Champion has more requirements then Holy Champion... plus the added weapon focus that blackguard does not originally have.

Now as for the weapon of choice (as it were) being a greatsword... mmmm... debatable in my opinion... in terms of chaos and destruction... I've always thought of greataxes as a better symbol.

I still have trouble seeing how this isn't awesome near-free stuff for a pure wizard, though. Skill Focus and Combat Casting hurt to spend (because neither is a very good choice in NWN, unless you're Casting Defensively all the time... In which case they DON'T hurt to spend), but Dodge and Mobility aren't bad at all. MWP is great. A combat-focused Wizard would have no problem paying all of that for a Full BAB (and therefore another attack per round and +5 BAB by level 20).

Another thing to consider is that you're designing a PrC basically JUST for wizards. We've got a couple of those already. Do we really need more?

Combat casting and skill focus were the 1st level bonus feats in NWN2 EK. The intended purpose as I saw it was that they would be in defensive casting mode every time they were in battle as it prevents attacks of opportunity when casting at melee range though a concentration check is rolled every time they cast.

This class is not specifically designed for wizards... that's just been the base class we've been debating. Sorcerers and bards can be it to as they can be any arcane casting PRC (Pale Master, Spell Sword, Arcane Archer)
