Fixed Bugs / Re: Whirlwind attack bug?
« on: February 10, 2019, 10:48:07 pm »
Should be fixed now, script was updated dynamically. After the whirlwind you will need to re-engage an enemy.

Thanks Orth, this is fixed.
On a side note it might need a bit of timing tweeking for layo... or I could just be lagging.
I'll let you know after far more use cases.

Rumour Has It / Gotta See A Tree About A Guy
« on: January 21, 2019, 01:47:12 pm »
Word gets around between this circle and that that a halfling is looking for a "tree-friendly" group to help escort a friend to and through the Great Forest for some manner of healing. "We've been to see the druids of the desert, we've been to a cradle of forgotten wilderness, and our only recourse seems to be the Great Oak!" Apparently ships are out of the question for some reason, making it potentially a year-long journey overland all the way from Arnax at the opposite end of the continent.

An oft-repeated addendum is that a mage who can levitate things is apparently high priority.  "Trust me, I've got it all figured out." There's a promise that everyone can keep anything found, but also the occasional odd "I will try to scrounge a lot of backup food for us, but I've been gathering feed for so long that my sleeves are fair bursting! At least I will never lack a bed..." remark.

PS no horses, please!

// Escort Mission From Arnax to Great Oak
// NPC is squishy, ill-tempered, and subject to sudden attacks of suicide
// Magic will occasionally be needed for some obstacles.
// I'd assume that any wizard of high enough level to be traveling on Belinara could have a Levitate banging around his spellbook somewhere.
// Looking at Saturday Jan 26 in the PST AM, maybe around 10, but could be shuffled around if needed.

Fixed Bugs / Battletide stolen!
« on: January 12, 2019, 01:46:09 am »
Description: Griff was fighting a GF Stalker and when the Stalker cast battletide, Griff resisted the spell, and then, praise Vorax, Griff divinely confiscated it in battle.  The Stalker had no battletide and Griff did.
Reproducable: not sure
Verified: not sure what that means
Witness: none
Note: probably due to Orth's recent battletide fix in the update

This is no longer an issue.  Dorg helped me and I can't recall what we did , but Corky has decided not to sue.  I can't give the details due to a non disclosure agreement.

Layonara Server / Anniversary Bonus Event
« on: June 12, 2017, 09:58:31 pm »
Greetings Layonara CommunitySome of you may know that Neverwinter Nights turned 15 this year. Most of you may not know, however, that the NWN incarnation of Layonara also turns 15 in just a couple of weeks. In observance of these major milestones, we will be holding an anniversary Bonus Event, starting Saturday, June 24th and running for about a month. During this period, XP, Fortune and gold drops will all be doubled. As with previous bonus events, the doubling of XP and Fortune will also apply to GM rewards for quests and RP.This event overlaps with another anniversary event targeted at the greater NWN community known as the Neverwinter Nights Player Appreciation Days (NWPAD). The details of the event are somewhat uncertain as yet, but if anyone wants to keep up with the news on NWPAD, here’s a link:https://neverwintervault.org/comment/31548Once we have something more definite on that schedule, we’ll be sure to update everyone with the details. Thanks to everyone who has played here over the last 15 years!

Notices are posted throughout the taverns and notice boards in both the towns of Center and Port Hempstead, revealing beautiful calligraphy in purple ink.

Liberating SubjugationMy fellow adventurers, I need not emphasize my distaste regarding the chattel of sentient beings, as I am sure many of you share my revulsion.  I am also not so presumptuous as to assume that I could abolish slavery, but I find myself weighing the cost of idle rumination while I carry the potential to do more, however infinitesimal the deed may be.So I ask those willing to join me in Arnax; we will take the roads north through Fort Nesar and as far up to borders of Khul as possible.  We will then roam as far north as feasable until we reach Hilm as our final destination.  Along the way we will engage with the slavers who chose not to emancipate their ill-gotten gains and we will assail their camps and hideouts to manumit all captives.  Once in Hilm I will provide our liberated with enough Truth to allow them time to become self-sufficient.I am willing to hear any advice and information regarding my request for aidLia((I wanted to add that DM aid is not required for this in game.  What my intention is we go through the areas mentioned including caves off the road that could harbor these unsavory sorts, haha, and RP as per normal throughout the adventure having fun.  After that if possible, I would love a bit of DM interaction via forums to help specify how many slaves recovered if any and any other potential RP that can happen after arriving in Hilm.Made a minor change to the note after learning about Khul's borders closing.))

Ancients Legacy / Tactical Assessments of Milara
« on: July 11, 2015, 08:34:01 pm »
*Kurn sends copies of a letter to all those members involved in the final battle and previous installments*Well done and a hard fought battle!  We sent that cowardly bugger running and thwarted his godhood in one fell swoop.  We learned some very important things that day.  One, that when we put our skills and abilities together, we can move mountains and shake the foundations of one of the most powerful men to walk the world of Layonara.  Two, that he can bleed.  And three, that he fears us.  He fled and escaped despite his fine showing.  But the battle is not over.  While Milara still breathes, he will try his mad plans again.  His Pet in ashes and his Triumph stolen from him, he is weaker than before.  But he will rebuild. What now then?  I say we prepare quickly and press forward.  If he is ever to be stopped once and for all, we need to destroy him utterly and make for darned certain he finally breathes his last.  And we should do so quickly before he musters enough forces to get his revenge; and believe me, for we thwarted his plans and he fears us, we are in more danger than ever before.  Each of us is now marked by him and, unopposed, he WILL try to take us out before we take the fight to him.  Death is certain, life is not.Having stood toe to toe with the bugger and landing a good volley of blows, I'd like to share with ye all what I have learned of his strengths and his weaknesses.  Of course you know well his tactics and that of his dark elven henchmen... dispelling magic blasts quickly followed by death magics and swarms of undead using the same.  Disjunction and greater dispelling appeared to be at work in the deaths sustained on our side leading up to the battle.  Second most he appears to have a great love of the greatest evocation, Hellball.  I noticed many of ye blasted with it, while I myself managed to evade most of its effects.  This was in part to a combination of me quick feet and reflexes, evading the epicenter of the blasts to avoid the brunt of impact.  That which was not dodged was warded by the constant effect of the resistanced placed on me amulet, rings and helm... greater resistances against each element on each piece of jewelry.  What little remained of the hellballs he laid upon me were negligable.  While not all of you are as quick to dodge such a blast, I highly be recommending investing in such protections on all of yer equipment, and boilstering the effects with means to help increase ye reflexes. In melee with him, though I hit him many many times, he withstood the brunt of the damage.  He did not appear to have the skin of stone, so likely it was absorbed by some of his equipment or even perhaps supernatural abilities.  As I glimpsed him up close, I witnessed me blades many times appearing to land as sure strikes only to pass through the image with a whoosh of air, indicating that he had some magic of the displacer beast at work, which could explain some of his purplish hue.  Perhaps even a ghostly armor.  I could have sword I had me truesight spell active, but it is possible that it had faded or been dispelled in the heat of battle. For those blows which hit him solidly, I noted the following.  Despite many attempts to knock him over, he resisted them without fail, and despite his having much natural strength of his own.  Though me blade easily swatted aside his meager and flimsy arms many times as he cast spells, the strikes to his legs did not fell him over.  I can assume therefore that this ability is not through training or opposed strength, but rather some form of persistant immunity against attempts to take the feet from under him.  Some magical items such as the dragonslayer sword or turtle shield have such effects, so I suspect something he wore has a similar ability. Also to note was that many blows which should have been cheap shots or devastating in nature, such as me patented gut-twister and cross the neck gashing combo, were dealt with only the basic severity of a regular blow.  In this manner twas much like battling one of his many undead minions.  Not many magical items that I have seen can do something of this nature, so the nature of Milara himself have been weighing heavily upon me mind.  I be thinkin that he is not entirely mortal, or has at least enhanced his body and abilities into some supernatural form.  Tis possible he be of undead necromantic material, or even a Pale Master, though I did not get a close enough look at his arms to determine if one of them had been grafted bone or not.  More likely is that he either holds some magical items we do not typically have access to, or that he may have enhanced his form beyond the mortal coil of dark elves and into something of stronger ilk.  Thus I consider his nature to be not that of standard dark elven, but of an abberational quality.  His vital organs did not appear vulnerable, nor did well placed blows across the neck.  I doubt that he breathes or feels pain as most mortal men.  he also did not burn from the bite of me blades' magics. In any case, we have therefore learned tactics that will not win a battle with him.  Backstabbing, knocking him over and anything but the heaviest and surest sighted blows will deflect right off him.  He is however not that difficult to hit when compared to many heavily armored foes, and relies on his magical and supernatural resistances to sustaining damage itself.  The question then, past nullifying the effects of his offense, is how to get past his defense.  I'm thinking that any future battle with him should begin with a barrage of dispelling magics of the highest power to breach his defenses.  While the disjunction and standard dispels might be problematic fer the frontline, perhaps the greater spell breaches designed to combat mages might be most useful.  Beyond that, blade enhancements might need more power to them to break his skin more reliably.  While Daniel's is formidable, I have felt some priests and mages cast even stronger ones, such as Sala Stonehill's blade blessings.  Rather than attempt to knock him over, frontline fighters should utilize the strongest possible blows they can.  I think had Grogmegor not been busy with Milara's Pet and Triumph and put his back into it, some devastating blows indeed could have breached the skin.  And perhaps we should look outside the conventional elements, such as the thundering blast of a barbarian's strike, spells which mimic thunder or perhaps even acids.  And of course, the smite of divine wrath might make the most powerful dent in his dark hide. This is all well and good to say how to strike at him from educated preparation, but also to prepare for his hoardes and tactics.  He uses masses of undead as fodder reinforced by mages who tactfully dispell our wards and weaken us.  For the final push, divine magics and displays of faith might be best served.  Turning those bodaks to ash quickly and arching the mages with zinging shots to make them fumble their spellcasting.  Breaching mages and routing the fodder to strike at them quickly with cheap shots and quick, brutal strikes.  The fodder is nothing but a distraction with our wards intact.  And with spells such as Stygian's massive undead slayer and Foresta and Daniel's massive healing circles they be dust in the breeze.I hope this letter serves to better prepare us when we face Milara in the future.  And we WILL face him soon.  Whether we take the battle to him while he is weakened, or allow him to sit back and lick his wound, grow in power and exact his revenge.  Either we finish the job, or he will.  There is no avoiding the battle to come.-Kurn Blackwater, stabber of would-be gods P.S.- I be also sending a copy of this to our gnomish friends who have dismantled the conduit.  It is possible that his supernatural abilities stemmed from whatever rituals he performed to drain those poor sods in the cages appended to that machine.  Perhaps in understanding the nature of what he was doing, we can unravel some mysteries as to how he was empowering himself in preparation for godhood.

« on: January 25, 2015, 11:21:16 am »
*The fastest messengers are dispatched to the reserve and retired rangers around the lands stating that they have been recalled, if able. As the rangers gather, travel, and draw attention, the word spreads that the Veil in Morhort on Alindor has lifted. Active and reserve rangers' assignments have been revised to meet the needs along the Morholt border. The retired rangers will backfill the open spots near the camp and other light duties.* *The leaders of the Wolfswood corresponds with all town, village, and large camp leaders on Alindor to inform them about the Veil lifting.*

General Discussion / New Forum Tips (with screenshots!)
« on: February 22, 2013, 01:30:08 pm »
I've been playing around and decided to put up some helpful stuff.  Here we go:Server Status Page is in dropdown under "On NeverWinter Nights": To adjust how you want to view posts in the forums (last first or first last), look down at the bottom left of any forum under "Comment viewing options".  If the forums are loading slowly or some things won't load at all, I found that adjusting the number of posts shown to ten (thanks Serissa!) helps.  Your settings will be saved for the entire Layo forums here so you don't need to redo this on every forum. You may have noticed your messages are in one giant inbox.  To apply tags for sorting, first select the messages  you want to tag by clicking the box to the left; then type the tag name in the box to the left of the "Apply Tag" button and click the Apply Tag button.  In this example I am tagging a pm from Elly.  Edit:  It appears that the tag function is page by page, meaning you can't go through all eight (say) pages of your pms and tag them all at once - you have to tag for each page.Your messages will still all show, but to filter by a tag, click the "Filter messages" dropdown (above the "Delete" button) and select the tag/filter you wish to see: Orth says there are no limits on pms in your inbox, so cool for that, no more "inbox is full" messages.  I'll post more as I find them, anyone else got a helpful hint for making these new forums as easy as the old ones?

General Discussion / Donation Time
« on: January 20, 2013, 02:13:13 pm »
Just about one year ago today, Orth posted for assistance keeping Layo running.  Per his calculations they'd have enough to run the servers for a full year.  By my calculations, it's time for we players to pony up some Trues for another year.

Someone told me once about a "donate your level" thing, and so that seems like a great idea.  To kick this off: Andrew, thirty-one plus Ty, fifteen plus Mari, ten = fifty-seven dollars donated to Layonara.  Heh, should be fifty-six so one bonus dollar!

while the link points to:
LORE: The Layonara Timeline

* No, I'm not saying where, so don't ask. ;)
** Characters with the Cloak of the Bat can ask a GM directly in-game for a replacement with the Nighteyes Cloak.  Please do not clog the Grievance/Request process with these. This is an item-for-item swap.

Thanks go to orth, Script Wrecked and Acacea for their contributions, as well as Alatriel for her remodel work.

Please note that this does require an updated HAK file, which can be downloaded here.

Enjoy!

Just for Fun / Inaugural Australian Layonaran BBQ
« on: December 05, 2008, 06:54:14 pm »
Inaugural Layonaran BBQ - South Eastern Australian Division

I can confirm the inaugural Layonaran Xmas BBQ was a success and saw the gathering of such luminaries as Pseudonym, Script Wrecked, Incahootz, Angelic, Hood!um, Dezza and Polak76.

The great divide between cyber and real life has been crossed with no casualties!

I can also confirm Script Wrecked really is a 2' 6" woman who rolls her 'R's, Polak turned up in black robes spouting Corathite rhetoric and Pseudonym was far more handsome than any of his posted photos might suggest.

General Discussion / Naughty naughty dwarf
« on: October 05, 2008, 12:23:14 pm »
dear Sniverous or guild owners of chests at 223 Prantz,

my apologies but whilst innocently waiting to use the portal from Prantz ter wayfare I, Rockhead Howling Wolf, had an overwhelming desire ter sneak a look in a large storage chest. I think it was the result if some mind altering attacks from the mushrooms close ter Prantz! Anyway the bloomin thing wouldnt close so I has moved all the objects into the adjacent chest ( overseen by the gods! (dm)).

please accept my apologies fer the fingerprints all over yer goods, all of which are still there! and fer the spittle on the adamantium as I was just checking ter see if it were real by tasting it.

please leave a note if'n yer want ter get the judges involved in the matter and I will gladly pay yer some compensation, maybe a few flagons of dwarf ale, fer being rude and nosey whilst in your abode.I promise I did not try any of yer clothes but that purple shirt hanging up in the corner is nice. I never touched it!

Alternatively yer may want ter call the militia out in which case please give advance warning by bird and I will be away ter the dessert fer a few months ter perfect me disguise.

Yours Humbly,

Rockhead Howling Wolf.

(ps. thanks ter Atlas, Vincent and Salleron fer the advice. Hope the close circuit tv shows me being honest!)
