Layonara Server / Coming Soon! Dynamic Names
« on: February 08, 2015, 05:57:10 pm »
I wanted to give the community a heads up on the new system that will hopefully be arriving in the next update. We are going to be introducing dynamic names to the world. What are dynamic names? Well now whenever you don't know a character all you will see above them or when they talk and other events is "Someone". It will be up the characters to introduce themselves to others or for your character to dub that character with a name.Associated commands will be:
  • =c intro
  • =c introparty
  • =c introarea
  • =c dub
To introduce yourself to an individual you use =c intro Plen for example. This will find the closest PC to your PC and introduce yourselves as that name to them. This will then change it so the other character sees Plen instead of Someone. =c introparty The Bird Lord for example would do the same thing but for all characters in your party. The same for =c introarea Feathers for example but it will work on any players in the immediate vicinity. If you would prefer to see someone's name as something else, you can forego their introduction and use =c dub instead. This works on the closest PC to your PC. For example, Connor could be near Plenarius and do =c dub Werechicken. If you have someone dubbed, from that point onward any time the player introduces themselves, it will ignore the introduction and use what you have dubbed them as.This will be a bit confusing at first when everyone is "Someone" but it should gradually get all worked out. You don't have to RP the introduction or dubbing of a PC who your PC knows well enough, just run the command(s). (Though feel free to RP it if you want!)Certain parts of the game world will still use your real name. For example the looter notification shows a Floating Message above the player to anyone that's nearby and can't be personalized on a per player basis. Storage logs on crates will still use the original name. There will be other cases we discover too, some will be fixed, some may not be able to be fixed. We hope this will help encourage the RP aspect of ones true name being held secret if they wish it that way. Also characters can use aliases to some if they so desire. Sometimes we're even confused/forgetful if one of our characters has met another yet, so this should help too. GMs always see your real name of course, but they too can dub you something else if they prefer.  (i.e. =c dub Victim #5) *gm grin*If you have any further ideas or just questions or comments, fire away. This isn't a set in stone update if players aren't thrilled about the idea but we think it will be a really fun addition.-orth

Rumour Has It / Seeking information on additional results of tremors
« on: January 30, 2015, 11:29:42 am »
*posted around various inns and taverns on Mistone and brought up with some of the Town Criers*Are you aware of any reports of any new gaps in the surfaces of areas caused by the tremors? Perhaps at the base of caves or such where new depths deeper into the ground have been discovered?  Maybe you're seeing creatures you've never seen before in areas they've never been before? Recently we discovered a passage at the base of the Dungeon of the Eye and I'm looking for information on any more. Any new information would be welcome. Katia's Embrace,Plenarius Ashaley

No new downloads required for this one. Just a few tweaks and nice to haves added here and there but a significant set of new areas added by Dorganath as well!

Added some brewer's yeast and empty bottles to the Great Spikes outpost. [/li]
[li]

    More bosses now give XP[/li][li]

Layonara Server / Sending Bird Messages from the Web Site Is Back!
« on: January 08, 2015, 03:57:54 pm »
For those of you who have associated characters through the web interface, you can now send bird messages to players in game. The system is a bit simplistic to start but it serves its purpose.Simply click on the On Neverwinter Nights menu at the top and select Send Bird Message. You'll then be presented with a dropdown list of all your associated characters and also autocomplete text boxes for each character you wish to send your message to. Each message costs 25 True per recipient. There's nothing quite like receiving a bird message so I encourage you to use the system to send messages to friends in game! If you need any help with anything associated with the system or linking your web account with your NWN Characters feel free to ask.

Layonara Server / Version 3.40 is online!
« on: December 26, 2014, 01:20:17 pm »

Version 3.40 is online!

This isn't a very significant update in terms of fixes or additions for players but those will be coming. The biggest change is merging Central and West together and cleaning up the haks. We hope this will make joining up and playing together easier plus it alleviates issues with the cross server portals, horses and other inconsistencies across the servers. It also makes deployment, administration and coding a bit simpler. Should the need arrive to separate them due to performance or other issues then we'll go back to that way but all the other updates mentioned in this post will still exist.

If you haven't downloaded any haks I mentioned earlier you can get them from here in one large rar (the Downloads section will be updated shortly to get each individual hak should that be easier for you):

http://e5bf79fd7133583b11df-dabb80c66fac67c5c4cbee545d8dd728.r44.cf1.rackcdn.com/haks/layonara_haks.rar (914MB)

If you have recently downloaded the big hak I mentioned in the other thread to get a jump on things, you will now only need to get the two below:

http://e5bf79fd7133583b11df-dabb80c66fac67c5c4cbee545d8dd728.r44.cf1.rackcdn.com/haks/layo_ctrlv3r18.rar (346KB)

http://e5bf79fd7133583b11df-dabb80c66fac67c5c4cbee545d8dd728.r44.cf1.rackcdn.com/haks/layo_resr1.rar (6.83MB)

Fixes:

  • Fix vine mine hampering to work properly, also fixed bug where movement speed didn't return to normal on exit

  • Fix some areas in The Deep not being set to Night only

  • Fix River of Darkness vampire spawns

  • Fix Imbue III bug with lighting being 1d8 instead of 2d6

  • Fix Divine Might and Divine Shield to be personal instead of medium range

  • Fix minimaps not being displayed properly in many areas

  • Remove debug messages from grave robber script

  • Fix many tileset quirks/bugs and reasons for crashing

Additions:

    [li]

Added recipe cards for all devices to crafting merchants[/li][li]

Added a roulette table to Scamps Mug Inn[/li][li]

Updated icons for spell immunities to show which immunities instead of a generic icon[/li]
Other updates:

    • Tweak AI on many creatures to be a bit smarter. This started with some of the creatures (Shadows in Storan's Crypt and Vampire Weavemistresses) not doing anything and became a larger effort. Be warned that creatures might not act the same as you're used to.

    • Server will now preload all houses which have furniture in them owned by players who have played within the last two weeks. This will curtail lag spikes during play and instead puts a bit of delay on server start up instead

    • Developed logic to exceed palette size without crashing DM client by removing non used items from the DM Creator palette only (but not from the module). DMs can no longer use the creator for Creature Items (Skins, Slams, Claws etc), Deeds and Demon Cards. You can still create these by command but I don't see why you'd need to. In the case of refunding Deeds for example, just buy them from a merchant as a DM.

    • Moved all dynamic resources into the module or haks

    • Merge both modules into one

    • Reorganize haks to get rid of duplicates and make resource usage more efficient

    Merry Christmas!

Development Journals and Discussion / Private Development Threads
« on: December 14, 2014, 02:07:34 pm »
Well this took a long time coming and I apologize but I've finally found a simple system for allowing private development threads. The forum software allows for you to flag your threads as "Published" or "Unpublished". Basically by editing existing threads or when creating new threads you can in essence make a thread private by flagging it as Unpublished. Only certain users have permission to view Unpublished threads along with the author.  I'll add this permission for Character Approvers, Gamemasters and Site Admins once I know it's all working. All existing private development threads have been moved to this forum and marked as Unpublished. Private threads will have the shield icon next to them which means others without permission can see the existence of the thread but can't see any of its contents. There is a small exception where, if they hover over the thread title in the forum listing they will see the beginning of the thread so you may want to put things that are unprivate in the first paragraph of the first post or so.Users are free to turn the status from Unpublish to Published and back whenever they like. Just edit your thread and under the Publishing Options vertical tab you can check or uncheck the box for Published. You can also quickly make your thread public by clicking the Published tab at the top.Let me know if you have any questions. -orth

Layonara Server / The NWN Servers are going to be moved
« on: December 04, 2014, 06:55:48 pm »
Hello everyone,I hope you and your loved ones are all well.I've recently been able to secure a great deal for the NWN Server on a much faster machine on a Black Friday special so we're going to be moving it over there some time in the near future.I'd like to get the server up and tested this month so we can confirm that everything is okay to go and I can cancel our previous account before the end of the month. I haven't yet set an exact date and time but I'm thinking maybe late Friday or Saturday night this week.Players shouldn't notice any difference, you will still connect to xora.layonara.com (5121 or 5122).  The IP address will change if you use that but I'll inform you of the new one when the time comes. This may also mean we can revert to automatic cross-server portals without crashes which might be nice but we'll have to test that. The new server will only cost $40 a month in donations so we can hopefully extend NWN Layonara at a fairly inexpensive price for as long as folks still enjoy coming here. For those curious and in the tech know:Existing server is a 4GB RAM, Dual 2.53GHz CPU, 250GB SATA HD running Windows 2k3 Server dedicated system.New server is a 10GB RAM, 10 2.3GHz CPU, 100GB Turbo SSD HD running Windows 2k8 Server cloud server. My initial tests have the servers starting up in half the time the old ones did. I'm not sure how much this will help lag and larger groups but we'll hopefully be able to test that. All the best,-orth

Fixed Bugs / Spellsword Imbue bug
« on: December 23, 2014, 05:38:31 pm »
Hi, I don't know if this has been reported yet. For Spellsword imbue III, the cold is doing 2d6 and the fire is doing 2d6. However the lightning is doing 1d8. All three supposed to do 2d6, correct? If this has already been reported and addressed then please disregard.

Fixed Bugs / Broken Amulet
« on: December 09, 2014, 07:25:09 pm »
Posting this for Charm2009.Description: Charm successfully crafted an exceptional amulet of eagle's splendour III and stated it would not cast the daily spell for her. I verified it would not work as it should.
Location: Testing took place in Fort Vehl.
Verified:

Reproducible: Yes, reproduced. I took the broken amulet from Charm and provided her a new one from the toolset. She tested the new one and it would not give her the option to cast the spell. I tried to equip the amulet myself and had the same result.

Fixed Bugs / Great Smiting not adding damage as described
« on: January 27, 2015, 11:07:32 am »
Bioware Name:  DavidhoffCharacter:  Griff SilversandLocation: Great Forest (Trolloc grove)Reproducable: yesDescription:Great Smiting feat is not working as described in Lore per this link:  http://forums.layonara.com/nwn/great-smitingGriff has Great Smiting III.  He should be getting his combined paladin and champion of vorax level, 33 (25 paladin/8 Cham), added four times (4x) to his Smite Evil attacks.  That would be 132 points of additional damage, on top of his normal physical damage (which is between 20-25).  So conservatively his smite would be about 150 pts of damage.  When hunting Trollocs in the Great Forest, he was only getting 117-121 pts of damage on his smites (I added back to that the 6pts of dam reduction they have).  So, in effect, it looks like he's not getting credit for one multiplier (x1) of his char level (ie, 33 pts of damage).Thank you for considering and looking  into this.Davidhoff

Fixed Bugs / Tenser's Transformation Typo/Bug
« on: April 09, 2017, 12:45:14 am »

Name of Character: Cyrus Whisperwind

Name of GM Witness: None

Date of Occurrence: Whenever and wherever a Tenser's Transformation is used!

Description of Occurrence:

The spell says it gives +2d4 Strength and +2d4 Dexterity and doesn't say anything about changing Constitution at allSo here is Cyrus before the transformation:And now after transformation:It just bumps  Strength to 20 and Dexterity to 22 and Constitution to 18, which I am assuming is the vanilla version of the spell from NWN.  2d4 Dexterity roll from 10->22 is not possible so that's what got me thinking. Not sure if it is supposed to be the vanilla version and the description is just a typo, or it's supposed to act like the description but the spell is just a vanilla version instead of Layo modified version. LORE page also states the +2d4 Strength and +2d4 Dexterity so if it's a typo then it's there too. http://layonara.com/nwn/tensers-transformationJust thought I'd mention it here, and thanks!

Guilds and Councils / Attention: Guilds and Organizations
« on: January 28, 2013, 04:17:25 pm »
Want to create an icon for your organization to be displayed as a badge for members under their profile?

The icon must be 32x32px and preferably having a black background unless the entire image takes up the 32x32 in which case the background is irrelevant. Please reply and attach the image in this thread.

Here's an example shot of some of my "badges" on the new system.

Also please note you no longer need to apply for membership to specific deity based forums or the druid one. The system will automatically know you have a character who follows that deity (provided your deity is correctly entered upon creation or a GM has set your deity).

Fixed Bugs / Sunroofs in the Deep
« on: December 11, 2014, 08:37:22 pm »
Sunlight penalties apply in a number of areas in the Deep between emeralds and mithril. Unfortunately with some of them lacking unique names I cant just hand a list over however I think its worth checking out since as dark elves, we should be able to enter such areas and not suffer sunlight penalty. Or have to waste a feat slot to get sunlight adaptation. When theres time please have a look and see if it can be fixed. Thanks in advance :)

Hello!

Firstly, Layonara's servers will be renewed again for a year. Yay! So you can rest easy that as long as there are volunteers to keep the cogs greased the world will continue to run.

Secondly, there are about to be some significant changes to the sites. Every Layonara site and feature has been rolled into one all new site. That includes LORE, the forums, the gallery, the calendar, the character pages, the personal messages, the downloads, the devlog etc.

Let me say the new site is awesome. I can't begin to describe how many features exist. I think players will love the ability to tag anything with your character and then your character's page aggregates all this information. Whether it's a forum topic, a gallery image, maybe quest participation each "node" can be associated with as many characters as you wish.

Here's a current screenshot of the front page to give you an idea of the look and feel of the site.

Anyway, it's getting pretty darn close to being ready so I hope you share in my excitement for its new launch. I'm sure some of you will be a bit concerned with transitioning to a new system but we've tried to keep every single feature that exists already into the new site.

I'll be happy to answer any questions about the new site and we'll go through a period of adjustment I'm sure but moving forward to have the entire codebase in one place is a real benefit to everyone's end.

Also as you may already know, the servers are being paid for their annual renewal again and every dollar you can help to donate will ease my expenses. I've included the links to donate once again for your convenience.

Greetings everyone,

This weekend I'll be transferring the forums, LORE and IRC over to our new server. I'm going to begin late tomorrow night around 11PM Eastern. My plan is to move IRC over first to be able to use it as a tool to communicate the progress on the forums and LORE. I'll also be using Twitter to confirm progress of the migration.

LORE character updates may be temporarily broken when the transfer is moved over but will be remedied as soon as possible. I don't foresee a need to shut down the NWN server but it's possible it might be required in case I've forgotten something.

I expect the whole process to take between 4 to 6 hours but if everything goes well it may be sooner. Of course if I run into hitches it could also be longer.

DNS migration may also cause propagation issues but that's out of our control. Basically this means that when we change which server the web address forums.layonara.com points to it takes some time for the global system to be aware of this change. Hopefully it will propagate fast so there's no concerns on Saturday but if there are I'll provide some technical help to temporarily alleviate the issue.

I hope all is well with you and your loved ones.
