General Discussion / Sorry to Ice, Dorg and others on Bris' ECDQ
« on: March 12, 2006, 01:32:49 am »
Last night as I was running late to join Bris' ECDQ, I jumped on East and asked Dorganath in IRC if he'd mind having a bird fly by the area where Brisbane was in an an effort to signify I was looking for Rhizome, giving me an RP in to meet up with Bris' group to join her on her ECDQ.

This wasn't a very thoughtful request to submit to Dorganath and while my intentions weren't to do anything but add a little spice I didn't consider them very thoroughly.  This complicated issues with Bris' ECDQ, overshadowing the importance of her event and caused an unneeded segue to an already time pressed event.

So I wanted to apologize to the party for complicating issues furthur and delaying your enjoyment, to Dorg for making the request and leaving him to the explanations and of course Ice for needlessly taking away from more pertinent matters and causing more frustrations.

I'll try to be more thoughtful next time.

Development Journals and Discussion / A Year of Vigil - Plen's Focus
« on: March 09, 2006, 02:17:16 pm »
Plen huddles next to a fire eating some bread, his face is long and weary, his wings drooping up and down with his heavy breathing.

Forgiveness

It is Worship Day, as the Earth Wakes, 1396, I camp with the Guardians of the Great Oak after a lengthy travel from Krandor on Mistone.  The Amulet of Souls has been returned to The Shifter, a move I was hoping to understand a little more, but one I believe was necessary nonetheless.  I'm well worried of the Shadow T'oleflor, the Lumbral.  Their role raises so many questions.

What do they seek?  Retribution against Blood?  Is that all?  If that occurs will we be ruled by them?  Do they feel slighted by history?  Will they forgive?  Will the Metallics return?  Is the Silver Vein who I think he is?  Will the Dragons speak with the Lumbral?  Can they help us understand what happened?  Can they apologize for the Sundering?  Is it possible Blood and the Lumbral would work together? Shadow and Destruction?  Can we trust the Sisters?  What of the warning of Selian?

I am tired.  I plan on staying here a long while.  I will hopefully find some answers.

Layonara Server / Upgrade - Prologue
« on: March 08, 2006, 07:08:26 pm »
Well now that most of the dust has settled and I've caught up on some sleep I wanted to properly address the most recent major upgrade, the contributors and some of the features.  The work behind the scenes can be almost overwhelming but it manages to tie itself together for a funner and more immerse world.  I really really hope I didn't miss anyone, oh for the want of versioning control.  If I did it was a stupid oversight, and I'm sorry.

Thanks to Aragon for some creature and script additions, and coming soon some more improvements for the one who's name we do not speak
Thanks to Blonde for the awesome animal pacification script and his great farming additions.
Thanks to Dorganath for his work on horses, CNR, custom ECDQ items, the Freelancers Guild and the general sharing of the development load.
Thanks to GhostWhoWalks for some bug discoveries for Bear Warrior and some PRC improvements.
Thanks to Guardian-452 for some great work with areas, the Leilon Temple of Mist, Wolfswood Outskirts and some housing remodeling.
Thanks to Gulnyr for his work on some more icons.
Thanks to IceDragonDuvessa for a mass overhaul of the Underdark, the Arcane Alliance, a ton of new and tougher creatures including Blood and his generals, some great additions to the Planes server and some toughening up of some areas that really needed them.
Thanks to milo for redoing Roldem with all of it's destruction.
Thanks to KageKeeper for some script additions and work on housing remodeling.
Thanks to Lalaith for her work on all the song titles for the improved Jukebox.
Thanks to Ne'er for his addition of the Hangman's Rock area.
Thanks to OneST8 for his addition of NWNX Plugins for Regular Expression matching, more stable object editing and LORE updates.
Thanks to Pankoki for his addition of the Elven Interiors and help with testing and balancing.
Thanks to regnus for his addition to Hlint.
Thanks to Reventage for his help testing and feature requests.
Thanks to Rhizome for his work on the Mosscrypt.
Thanks to Talan with his recent dedication to LORE and the new Jukebox scripting.
Thanks to Thak for the new elemental protection VFX for larger creatures.
Thanks to Tobias for helping with a ton of testing.
Thanks to vgn for being a sounding board on a few issues.

Thanks to everyone who helps me debug with informative and helpful bug reports.
Thanks to everyone involved in Feature Requests, we try to get as many as your sensible and possible ideas in as we can.
Thanks to the GM Team for their feedback in some spell improvements, more to come in the next update.
Thanks to the Bioware Community for their continued development of resources for our world.

And finally, thank you Leanthar for Layonara.  For trusting the team, for making tough decisions, for financially supporting the cost to maintain the servers, for working continually on a future for this world.

The next significant update will be the 1.67 patch that Bioware currently has in Beta.  A lot of great additions come with this patch, and we're looking forward to continually developing the world in some very exciting areas.

Until then, the Bird Lord returneth.

General Discussion / Game Mechanics Exploiting
« on: March 08, 2006, 03:37:55 pm »
This belongs in Layonara Server but I'm putting it here for more noticeability and for our visitors.

A few cases of game systems exploits have come up in recent days.  I want to remind everyone that exploiting systems is not in the spirit of Layonara and causes an unequal playing field.  We are very adept at monitoring these exploits and have a community of players who share the spirit and report these abuses.

Actions taken can range anywhere from warnings to permanent banning.

Do not exploit game mechanics.

The servers will be going down for an update at around 5PM PST, 8PM EST, 1AM GMT.  Could be a little later.  This will take a short while provided no glitches get discovered.  So expect downtime anywhere from an hour to three.

If you have not downloaded the new haks yet, please do so, visit this thread for more info:

Layonara Server / Major Update End Of The Week
« on: March 01, 2006, 10:05:34 pm »
It's been a while, but it's now that secret revealing time as I start to let you folks in on what's about to come.  There's going to be two new haks to download and a new tlk file.  Somewhere in the neighbourhood of 45mb total size.  They're not finished yet but I'll let you know where to get them as soon as they're finalized.

This thread acts as a good way for me to make sure I've kept track of everything and that I've finished all the tasks required to integrate each new feature that has been added by the project team into the modules.

So get ready... as Layonara Version 2.96 is about to be unveiled!

Just for Fun / My First Week On Layo
« on: February 27, 2006, 03:29:48 pm »
Hey everybody, anything exciting happen the first week you got here?  Do you remember? Share your story!

The first day I arrived I was welcomed by Ameng Englen and quickly becmae part of a mining group where we met up with a Wolv Tolkin who was hacking away at the veins and we were being more of a nuisance trying to help heh.

The next day I ended up with Nathan Birche and the Rosewynes and we went on a bash to the Necromancer's Camp off the Road to Fort Llast, then to some cave I can't remember.

It was my first taste of real online RP that was never captured in the MUDs I played, and I was hooked on Layo :)

Trade and Market Hall / Bard For Hire - Chronicles of a Bird Lord
« on: February 21, 2006, 12:24:17 pm »
A tall busy halfling tacks a note in various inns and meeting places.  I have many bard friends, to choose just one to help me with some writings was too much of a task. This is also a lot of work I do not wish to impose upon someone who may not have the time, so I'm offering this task for hire.
  • You must already have some first hand experience travelling with me or spending time talking to me.
  • You must respect Nature and the teachings of Katia.
  • You will be required to pose questions of me and have me recount various stories of my life.
  • You will be required to gather all that you have learned from myself and your own accounts and chronicle it for posterity and work with myself in some cases for editing
  • You will be required to write this in the Common tongue upon supplied parchment with supplied premium black ink.
I offer 15000 gold for this task.  An additional 1500 gold for any additional languages that you may be able to scribe the chronicles.  In the case where more then one person is interested, I will consider a joint effort or seperate chronicles, however that may alter the payment terms, in which case I would discuss them first.  If you wish to take upon this task, you should know how to pass your intention to me.  Katia's blessings from the Great Forest, Plenarius Ashaley [/i]  // I'm looking for something to add to the Hall of Heroes and hopefully transcend versions of Layonara for historical purposes, heck maybe even drop a clue in for the future ;)  This can be done in PMs, IRC or in game, in game would be fun, but we know how difficult editing can be in game.

Layonara Server / Attention Mages - Melee Fighting
« on: February 04, 2006, 12:59:26 pm »
The amount of level 8+ mages soloing and/or transforming into a melee attacker are becoming a concern to the team.  How do you think we should address this problem?

Is it enough to ask that you consider the focus of this server towards roleplaying and a balanced system please.  If that's not enough then maybe the mages can speak up on how they'd expect us to make changes.  If you don't - expect anything from more drastic rest measurements, required components for spells even if you have eschew, 24 hour spell timers (real life 24 hours), mana systems.  We don't want to go through all that trouble.

Just because you are capable of performing something with the Bioware system is not an implicit declaration that the Layonara team approves of it.  If you know something's really wrong and against the spirit of the world, it's simple DON'T DO IT.

Thanks!

General Discussion / Bioware Patch 1.67 is Coming
« on: February 04, 2006, 05:54:06 am »
The Beta is now out, check here for details.

http://nwn.bioware.com/support/winclient_beta.html

As always - we'll try to incorporate it into the world as fast as possible, but don't download the patch until we let you know Layonara is running 1.67, otherwise you will have to revert.

Layonara Server / Parchment Folder and LORE System Usage
« on: January 17, 2006, 08:48:03 am »
The parchment folders are handy ways to keep your writings in one single inventory place and that helps the server too, but now with LORE it's even better.  Any parchment you store in your folder becomes editable on LORE through your character page, provided you have registered with your Public CD Key.  Here's how it works:
  • buy Parchment Folder from General Vendor Note it's not in his inventory, it's a special conversation option
  • buy Parchments (or use existing)
  • use Parchment Folder on Parchment, this removes the parchment from your inventory and "stores" it in your folder
  • visit your character page on LORE, you should now see an option to manage your folders
  • inside your folders you will see your parchments held within for you to edit
  • once done editting, back in game, either next time you login or next LORE (6 minute) heartbeat you will get a message of your folders changing
  • use Parchment Folder on yourself to be given a dialogue for you to select which Parchment you wish to take out
  • Parchment is restored in your inventory with updates
  • use Parchment Folder on another player to give it to them this gives them access to all parchments contained
  • use Parchment Folder on trash can to delete
  • you may have as many Parchment Folders as you wish
  • you can rename Parchment Folders through LORE

Layonara Server / Introducing Temple Donations
« on: January 14, 2006, 11:18:00 am »
Players can now donate gold or items to Temple Vendors and enhance that Deity's influence.   To Donate Gold, simply select the option in the conversation with the Temple Vendor I would like to donate gold to the temple.  To Donate Items:
  • buy Temple Donation Box from Temple Vendor
  • fill Temple Donation Box with goods you wish to donate
  • talk to the Temple Vendor, you will now see an option to donate your items
  • when confirmed, the Temple Vendor removes all the items from your Donation Box (or Boxes) and generates a Temple Vendor Receipt for the player
  • donations get logged and the value calculated and will affect deity prestige/influence/wealth (not yet determined exactly how)
  • Temple Donation Box does not get taken, you only need to ever purchase one, though more may make larger donations more convenient

Layonara Server / Send Messages to Players In Game Through LORE
« on: January 07, 2006, 06:58:00 pm »
Yes, now your characters can send messages to other characters in game through LORE.  If you're setup with your Public CD Key, you can click on the link at the bottom of the character's page to send them a message: ie Send Plenarius Ashaley an in-game message.".  You can then select which of your characters you will be sending it as.  Cost is 50gp (includes Bird Lord Royalties) which is directly removed from your character's bank vault.   If you wish to send it anonymously, it will cost a little extra to bribe the falcon messenger master.

The recipient will receive their message from bird carrier the next time the heartbeat (every 6 minutes) fires when they are outdoors and not in combat.  Once you receive your rolled up scroll, you use it to open it up and reveal your message, which you can read by examining and looking at the items description.

P.S. Kidding about the royalties.
